31. #26 Well at least its my land
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.13.08)
Well at least its my land and not stolen land, you can quote all the verses you like from the bible untill the cows come home but its all a myth my friend. Seeing as you like fairy tales i suggest you Harry Potter.
32. #28, eh?
Danny   (08.13.08)
I think she is comparing China because she was in China not Sweden. Most Israelis aren't "religious" either and Israel also takes in refugees - including a number from Sudan and recently from Gaza. If you think we "create" refugees, you must have us confused with our arab cousins....
33. #27, is our education system really that bad?
Danny   (08.13.08)
Israel was founded by Israel in 1948 and not anyone else and the declaration of independence is explicitly non-religious and also has tolerance for non-jews.
34. article about separation of state and religion
Hedy Maimann ,   Austira.Vienna   (08.13.08)
Sorry, but you cannot take China as an examle for the division of state and religion as China has a really very very special history and situaiton. Why you do not compare this with European countries- there nothing of what you are say ing fits. Here in Austria we can have children as much as we want and they even like it and the birthrate is growing as you could have read yesterday in newspapers. Blessings Hedy
35. China's religion
--- ,   --   (08.13.08)
I have never read this kind of misinformed article before . China has a religion and has humanism and has all these aspects, i recommend you read some chinese philosphy that has its roots even before judaism. Confuicism, daoism, islam, buddhism and even some jews live in China. It has a long tradition of heriachy and a lot of the same aspects that any abrhamic relgion has as for the one child policy it has given the rise of a spoiled generagtion in the main cities of china, however, much of china is in the rural area were people are still fighting to get food. I apperciate that if you want to say that judaism is good then go ahead but do not claim something totally misinformed and make comparisons just for populistic calculations.
36. # 31 You live in TA
Bill ,   US   (08.13.08)
How is Tel Aviv more legitimate than other parts of Israel?
37. the wonder of judaism is our closeness to Hashem, not our
debra ,   usa   (08.13.08)
holidays standing alone-they only flow from this closeness. the writer of this article has missed the boat, knowing only the symbols of judaism-not its true essence--Hashem.
38. such an ignorance and self righteousness ...
Mike Sjovic ,   NY USA   (08.13.08)
how dare you insult 1.3 billion people with such self righteousness and narcissism. and what did you do to EARN to be born as a such a wonderful chosen Jewish human being. Nothing. G-d chooses us to be whatever we are and whereever we are. and that pretty much determines what we are and will be. So stop insulting other people, start thanking G-d for his gifts with humility with nothing to brag about.
39. Imagine a billion jews and a huge country
andrew ,   miami,fl   (08.13.08)
40. #36 Not so hard to imagine
i ,   jerusalem   (08.13.08)
If we were allowed to live in peace thru the centuries we would be nearing that. The Talmud describes (perhaps in allegory) that prior to the destruction of the Second commonwealth, there were multple cities with millions each, Beitar with four hundred cheder schools, etc, and that at the time of the destruction the blood ran knee deep in Jerusalem. The pogroms of the middle ages took away two thirds of the remnant, and Europe had 17 to 20 million Jews at the eve of the Shoah. As to space, our birthright extends from at least Wadi el Arish, to Touros Amnus (the top north east corner of the Mediterranean) and out to the Euphrates, including all of Lebanon, most of Syria, all of Jordan, and part of Saudi Arabia. When people suggest deporting the troublemakers to Jordan, they are in error. The origin of them all is the southern Arabian peninsula.
41. #16 the canard
Beared Bogeyman ,   Jerusalem   (08.13.08)
We breed and dont contribute? What contribution are you harping about? We pay the same 15.5% Vat that you do, and we pay more of it because we consume more, many of us work and pay taxes, our contribution to keeping the country Jewish (as with the "settlers") is above reproach. We are over represented in chesed and do-good orgs, and yes we do have a representation, though small, in the IDF. That is not likely to grow given the non accomadations involved, and the politicization of the IDF (destroying communities) Stop pretending there isn't a large service evasion rate among hilonim.
42. Thomas #30
Israel   (08.13.08)
Who is talking about being coherent. You write "...including your beloved Haredi who attend Holocaust denial conferences." You know, of course, that these "Haredim" are but a tiny minority who have no backing from any of the leading Rabbis in the Charedi community. Perhaps we should judge the secular community based on all the drug addicts, murderers, and child abusers and make a statement that all non-religious are such. Your arguments are pathetic.
43. Re: #2 GENE
David   (08.13.08)
Gene, What would be the point in making aliyah to a country whose sole connection to you is your RELIGIOUS heritage??? The only connection Jews have to Jerusalem and Israel is their JUDAISM, whether it is practiced or not. Torah Judaism allows for the Jewish people to strive to be righteous an live spiritually fulfilling lives while being whole in the community and the private sphere. I pray to Hashem that you seek out your inner soul which is yearning to be returned to Torah and Mitzvot. Good day : )
44. # 42 "Israel"
Thomas   (08.14.08)
If my argument was so pathetic why were you so selective in choosing my examples? I can't speak for what happens in Israel but here in the US, when it comes to welfare fraud, money laundering, wife beating, child abusers, and yes, even murder within the Jewish community, you'll find most of the guilty where black hats. I can't tell you the pride I felt when the NY Post ran a headline, "Rob-I" qabout a Haredi rabbi arrested for stealing millions from a charity intended to help hadicapped children. On the other hand, you almost never hear of a Chinese being arrested. When people think of the Chinese in America, they think of how their children excel in schools, their good work ethic, and strong family values. Sorry if I'm a little envious wishing that could be said of my own people.
45. #22 Anon, Johannesburg
clive ,   cape town, sth afric   (08.14.08)
i am sorry to read your excuse for Judaism - your ethis have been totally distorted. read the Torah and learn it's lessons. Read parashat masei, the last of the 4th book Bamidbar, ch33 verse 55- you will learn of the folly of your so-called moral thinking.
46. Do you really know what you said?
china ,   tel aviv   (08.14.08)
One child policy is not government enforced chinese people to carry out. In China, if the couple both of them have bachelor degrees, they can have second child. There are a lot of single mom, 30s-40s single women in Israel, according to your opinon they should be blamed, because of they don't want kids?? Rediculious, you definitely just need this article to finish your task for today. People in China is more happier than in Israel. You don't think Israel is full of housewives filled up with too many kids?! Torture for your country. 3/5 of your population is kids, isn't that too much. Last but most important, a lot of Israeli just been in China for few months, even few days, they thought they understand what is China, is this the Jewish wisdom?
47. Try Sweden
TrySociology   (08.17.08)
Silly article! I do not find anything attractive in mono/poly/multi/hyper/theism. Rescue ourselves from mythical gods. Let us be Swedish. A little Enlightenment would cure Adi!
48. The truth is...
Wensheng Liu ,   Shanghai   (09.19.10)
In WW2, thousands of Jews come to Shanghai and saved their lives with the help of Chinese. There are lots of temples and churches built everywhere here, I guess, u ignored them. I was born after 'One child policy' published, and I feel lonely sometimes with no brothers and sisters playing together. However, I understand the importance of the policy for Chinese. I cherish my life and thanks to my parents who give my life.
