22,400 residents leave Israel in 2006    Gad Lior
1. How many emigrants were olim never intending to stay?
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (08.15.08)
2. Answer to #2: None
No one intended to make aliyah and leave, but once you realise there are no jobs, what choice do you have?
Rami ,   London   (08.15.08)
3. residents leaving israel
not surprising at all. if i could i would too. with such a government - everyone is corrupt and only worries about their own pocket and the last thing that interests them is the country........
sas ,   israel   (08.15.08)
4. Remove the citizenship of emiigrants
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.15.08)
5. #1 Don't delude yourself - most are Tsaberim
Most of those leaving are Tsaberim - and if not most, then a very large proportion. It is a tragedy, but Zionism died with our grandparents, it would seem.
Chaim   (08.15.08)
6. Israeli mentality
Israelis grow up in Israel with a chip on their shoulder thinking that money grows on trees in places like the US and Australia Many come to Australia and find that life is not like 'Leave it Beaver.' Most stay, however; convincing themselves that they made the right decision
David ,   Sydney Australia   (08.15.08)
7. Emigration and immigration
Can you blame the emigrants ? 1. Look at the Govt. ! 2.Israel does not stand up for itself on security and always acquieses to every whim of the U.S 3. On present performance of the Govt in the south of Israel . Who wants to come to a country were you will get rocketted in the south and soon the potential of being blasted everywhere else while you watch the Govt d nothing and sign a "piece" treaty.4 We soon won't have fresh water because there are insufficient resourses . 5.Very selective and limited employment opportunities for the young To name but a few!
I.Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (08.15.08)
8. Basic wages too low
Its all about survival! As an Olim, you usually have to take the first job offered. A basic wage of 4000 shekels a month is usually offered. ( not everyone works in high tech). 4000 shekels is no where near enough to cover basic living costs for one person, let alone a family. Rent alone for a small place is 2500, shekels so you work it out. The price of iving has skyrocketed while the basic wage hasnt! Also people see that the government just doesnt care about the ones struggling to survive. Soon, i will be leaving as well if i cant find a way to make better money.
Jayyy ,   Israel   (08.15.08)
9. The way Israel is run today by Olmert Gang-I dont blame them
Alan ,   SA   (08.15.08)
10. Residents leaving Israel
Wait a minute only a moth ago the papers said that more ex pats were returning to Israel than leaving ,so which is it? Can you honestly blame people from leaving here, the schools are lousy, and there are further cuts to the Education ministry coming up,the employment situation is going down as well, businesses are floundering(even big ones like Burger Ranch), not to mention the threat of War with Iran in the near future! The constant lack of leadership that is un corrupted in this country, Ministers that are theifs, abusive, liars ... This place is getting more like Sodom and Gemmora each day! People leave Israel because they want to give their kids a better quality of life abroad, better schools,no threat of Iran attacking them,no threats of Hezbollah or Hamas showering rockets down on them. Better job opportunies with higher saleries for DRs, Scientists,Computer savy people! Believe me, if I could leave I would, but I am struggling here in debt, barely scraping by thanks to family support,if my spouse would agree to return to the USA I would be on the first plane out of here, !!
Millicent ,   Israel   (08.15.08)
11. hopefully
next yerida will include the olmert family , the entire Kadima party, shinui, meretz, shalom achshav and all other leftists who hate this being a JEWISH State
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (08.15.08)
12. Looking for Paradise
Those of us who are returning know that there is no paradise in the US and Europe etc-----Israel has never looked better (especially after living here)!!
guy ,   los angeles   (08.15.08)
13. the state
does not give a damn about its citezens...and i mean those people who paid taxes all their lives...served in the military...fought in all the wars...israel only thinks about what it can get out of people..like a parasite...it is no wonder people are leaving..the fact stands for itself..israel taxes us to death...no decent housing...they throw jews out of their homes...the politicians steal from us time and time again...in short...we are not important to the state
JL ,   israel   (08.15.08)
14. Why This Is Happening........
The most important issue is NOT mentioned here. Israelis who do not feel to the core of their being that Israel is our rightful Jewish homeland, and that we are NOT occupiers, surely have little reason to stay in such a volatile region. I would never have inculcated Zionist ethos in my sons who made aliyah, nor would I have done so myself, if I did not believe what I am saying. It matters not if you are religious or secular if you have this core belief. IF the leaders want to stench the outflow they would do well to get rid of Yuli Tamir who serves as the 'reeducation' minister', and NOT the Jewish education minister. Why would any sane person want to stay on land that they believe they are occupying illegally? The leadership knew full well years ago when they first handed the reins to Shulamit Aloni. First you deconstruct the children, and then they will flee. Propaganda at its zenith. It worked perfectly and we are reaping the results.

15. What is one year? No company would give a contract for less!
One of my friends who would never dream of emigrating was offered a 3 year contract for a US high tech company and he turned it down because it was to long. He would have gained a lot of experience and knowledge and brought it back to Israel. He would have accepted 18mos and maybe even two years but the company didn't even want to hear about it and I understand them. I spent a year in Brazil and stopped in England on the way and never thought about emigrating. Mike

16. Good Israeli sense...
Kadimas suicidal policies vis a vis Hezbollah and Hamas give joy to the jihadis and a sense of fear of the future to Israelis. If you continue to show that you are comfortable with the lies from crooked politicians using ostrich logic and even the Americans will give up on you as a lost cause. Good sense says that its best to get away from such nuts.
Nathan Rai ,   Bangalore   (08.15.08)
17. exodus?
I wouldn't live in a country where everyone is paranoid about whats coming to them... I think the exodus just begun.
Jeffersonian ,   SF, CA   (08.15.08)
18. #8 - you will find it worse in Europe and many other places
Have you tried the UK for example? My friends that used to go to the pubs every day now go once or twice a week. My son went to a football game and a regular restaurant - £150 and won't be going again for a while. I took an 8 hour train journey there - £80 and I pre-booked and got a 'deal'. My son in the States shares with 5 other people and just bought a motor bike because filling up his truck was too expensive. Most Israelis are incredibly spoiled and I was shocked after making Aliyah 5 years ago to see that they are more pampered than even the Americans. i worked in Brazil for a year and it's cheap to live there but the money is worth nothing when you leave. I wish you luck but believe that you may be suffering from the 'grass is greener' syndrome. Mike BTW I know several people that earn around nis 5000 a month and they save money.
redmike ,   Tel Aviv   (08.15.08)
19. CRUEL STATE
On my many business trips to Europe I met many previous Israelis who live there, because of a material and comfortable lifestyle, without constant war. The people who control this state, like the rich and famous, the media, the judges, the mafia and our Herzelist elite are a cruel, ruthless and callous bunch. This lack of humanity that permeates every level of society , is a ever growing cancer. The secular Bolshevik roots of so-called modern day Israel has long reaching effects. The systematic destruction of the Jewish identity is eating away the very fabric of life. The viciousness and cruelty of reporting in the media are just one example of lack of decency. It is amazing that not 200.000 Israelis leave a year, with a state that is cruel to its own citizens, even sacrificing their lives if it suits their needs. Without any basic change every Israeli leaving has the full right to do so, they do not deserve condemnation, the state treats them like crap anyway and makes their lives miserable. Only the ones that love the land based on Torah will find the strength to stay. Very big change that again this will not be to our censors liking , because of a religious reference, which is against their secular religion.

22. A Jewish Identity = A Jewsih State
Take the Jew out of and Israeli and there will be Jewish State, then there is no reason for an Israeli to live in Occupied Arab Palestine. The left wing socialist anti religious propaganda of our secular elite is gutting this country. Every Jew knows that the secular left leaderhip have all purchased villas outside the land, set up foreign bank accounts and are staying in Israel only long enough to steal as much as they can before fleeing the ultimate collapse that they have engineered. That is why Israelis who have been stripped of their Jewishness by the left are leaving the country. Even rats will desert a sinking ship, Israelis with no Jewish identity see no reason to stay and fight for what they don't consider to be their own homeland. The only hope for any nation is a nation that has ideals, aspirations, dreams, and IDENTITY. The left has stripped all of that away. Israelis so want to be Americans, but Israelis totally fail to grasp what it is to be an American, that is a sense of justification, of ownership in the land, and of a moral right to exist as an American. The Jewish people left in Israel must rise up and throw out the secular left and elect belief based Jewish Leadership. People with a moral compass a set of standards and ethics to guide them. That standard is Torah. That does not mean we impose strict religious observance on everyone but create a framework in which Torah values and observance are not suppressed but encouraged. Frankly we have a better chance of this with the traditional Israeli Jewish public than with the religious who deny the miracle of Hashem forcing the Goyim to create the state of Israel in the UN and give it to the Jewish people and tell them to take their homeland and live there. The only currently viable option the Jewish people have in this direction is Moshe Feglin. Feglin is the middle ground alternative, he is not a wild eyed religious fanatic, he however a man grounded in moral belief and ethics that he will act on. He has established the largest single bloc of influence in the Likud. With more Likud members voting for him in the party's internal elections, he could overtake the current leadership and we would see some real positive change begin. It would not be long after that that Aliyah would surge and former Israelis would return home as proud Jews. I am not a party functionary and the Feglin camp has no idea who I am. I am a former Party Chairman from Texas and made Aliyah 3 years ago. I quit politics in America because I hated the rigged party corruption in America that rivals Israel except is it more concealed Israelis at least know a pig when they see one. I doubt Ynet will publish this but I had to say it.

24. why> this is the answer
big shyt,do u really think a desperate person cares? a desperate person cares for his own bread and butter,in israel my child would never be able to enroll in hadassa med school unless he had neputism or in plain hebrew-protektzia,while abroad with his marks he reached to the highest echelon of medical school he wanted, sorry, pals, keep your covetted placings to your kids

25. To all doom sayers
Israel 1948: 600,000 citiziens Israel 2008: More than 7 million (about 12 times more within 60 years). My brother-in-law just returned from 3 years study abroad, He was counted as an eimgrant when he left, but not as an immigrant when he returned. The CBS produces useless statistics

26. 19-david-you are right
dear david. we are as it is remarked former israeli citizens, though both were born in israel deeply rooted in israel, both love israel,my husband served in the israeli army for three army,as a matter of fact, while working in one of the biggest stores selling electronics in nyc he had met the chief rabbis of israel, rabbi metzger and he went to show his respect and wish him< SHALOM ALEICHEM> THE RABBI BARELY ACKNOWLEDGED HIM,BARELY ANSWERED HIM, and do you think that's the way a rabbi should behave? to be snotty?yes,we saw him in the internet while participating in the funeral of regev and goldwasser,he was smiling,,oy vey if it is how a rabbi should be during a funeral, might be he was annoyed that he was confronted by a noman who will report to the media that the chief rabbi went shopping at band h electronics, which shouldnt be done, and that's how the rabbis in israel-are,only money, only their chairs, honor and snobism.by the way,a chasidic rebbe would never go shopping at band h,and will always shake the hand of anyone who comes to wish him well without any preferences,it shows you the level of the rabbis of israel now,no more-to god and to the people, now it is to the party, and pocket,so,if this is the way we see no difference with israel and the usa,of course,we are all aware of the terrorism acts and etc, but, who needs those rabbis, who needs to support their nasty habits, freedom is a precious motif in our life,no more, you live once, david.go tell it to rabbi metzger, deep in his heart he will agree with you,we were very disappointed with the rabbi's attitude, that isnt the way his nastiness should have reacted,

27. Living in Israel
I think that the main problem is finding a decent job with a salary a family can live on. This is not always possible here. Also, I agree that people who love Eretz Yisrael and Torah will stay here. Another ironic thing is that plenty of non-Jews from third world countries would do anything to live here. Too bad most of the world's Jews don't want to live here.
DG ,   Israel   (08.15.08)
28. Sad
Some of these yordim do come back. They only went on an after the army tiyul for a few years. In some cases, though, they settle down abroad, marry a non-Jew and have non-Jewish children. This is sad too.
Linda ,   Israel   (08.15.08)
29. Olim
I personally know several young Israeli men who went to the States and married Xtian girls. They have children with them and the children of course are not Jewish. So this is a loss not only for the State of Israel, but for the Jewish People as a whole. Another problem is that many olim here in Israel are not Jewish, like from Russia, South America, Ethiopia, etc. At least Nefesh B'Nefesh brings in Jews only, but it is only a drop in the bucket.
Sara ,   Jerusalem   (08.15.08)
30. The leadership in the country is demoralizing it s citizens
When the Gov't, Press and Judicial are controlled by the left and are constatly siding with the arab causes against the Jewish cause its all the reason for emigration. Untill we will get a Jewish Gov;'t who believs in the state of Israel as G-D given land which should be compromised we are headed south.
