Hebrew University 65th in global university ranking    Moran Zelikovich
1. u want to solve higher education crisis?
Then someone better start solving the problems of primary and secondary education first. Since high school graduates are increasingly less capable of meeting requirements standards continue to erode in order to accommodate them.

5. it's not the students
Jewish or Arab, it's the professors pushing their political agendas instead of teaching and spreading knowledge.

7. Bad budget, bad politics
We should stop wasting money on futile endeavours such as the peace process. I was all for the disengagement, when looking at the Palestinian problem as isolated from the other problems in our society. Yet this is a form of distraction. Our country is rotting at the core. We need to prioritise. Education should always be at the top. Is there anyone that honestly believes peace will come one way or another in the next 20 years? The IDF should be streamlined. Corruption and inefficiency in the government should be dealt with in the harshest of terms. We should also be swayed by rational arguments rather than mob mentality. Tuition should be doubled, not halved. And for all those students that whine. Well, work for a year instead of wasting two in India. In the rare cases when someone cannot pay but clearly has talent, the universities have special funds for this. Currently tuition for first degree makes up for about 20% of a student's yearly expenses. Where does the other 80% come from? (Very rough figures.) On of the greatest challenges our universities face is keeping the talent. Why should our great minds stay in the universities when the marketplace or universities overseas offer them better prospects. We cannot rely on ideology as the sole motivator. Zionism is dead. It was useful in getting here, but now that we are here, a modern country, self-sustaining, we should rely upon economics and not patriotism to define our expectations.
