Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (08.21.08)
they run the show as well as Iran. Russia is really screwing up its chances of getting into the WTO. Pooh Bear Putin might steal an oil pipeline.....but the west will stop investing and trading with his little pack of thieves, and Ali Babah Syria will be invaded, or bombed for their terrorist activities as well.

7. Israel will pay the price of its faulty convictions
Walid ,   Riyadh   (08.21.08)
The free world had an opportunity to rid itself of one of the oldest & cruelest dictatorships however Israel intervened and extended the life of the Assad Regime. Now, we see Syria getting into alliances and arming itself with new weaponry. Israel will regret its stupid decision which was the result of a faulty analysis.
8. We do not take revenge
Damir ,   Russia   (08.21.08)
Any business with Russia and Poland should concern no Assad. This is different region with different interests.
9. Bush giggles,grins about World War 3
Mark ,   Boston   (08.21.08)
It’s both strange and more than a little scary that in Washington’s post-Soviet New World Order, the President of the U.S. actually giggles and grins as he says, “we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.”
10. Look, we took out Syria's nuke plant that was guarded by
Russian SAMS.This ,   will be just as easy   (08.21.08)
11. #7 What about Saudi dictatorship?
Mark ,   Boston   (08.21.08)
How should have Israel handled the situation? What is a better decision? It is hard to end all dictatorships. That will end up in a world war.
12. To Dear President Assad,
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.21.08)
Stop kissing up to Moscow like a pathetic joke. Run your country as if you were an honorable man and not the son of a dictator who gave it to you to keep down the citizens forever. Won't you ever be your own man? Are you simply incapable of doing what's right for your country?
13. Assad is in the driver's seat.
Mark ,   Boston   (08.21.08)
He has the ability to choose the best offer. The US and Russia, Who will give them the best deal?
14. Russia is flying Atomic Bombers round EU so why not rockets
Alan ,   SA   (08.21.08)
in Syria.A very good idea for Russia to perpetuate drama. What really is the reason for "patrolling Atomic Bombers (Beagles or whatever they are called) round EU-first time in years???? . . Its just to raise the temperature a bit ....So it would be just like Russia toaccept such a rocket invitation from Assad. They want to show that the Bear is back in business courtesy of the $$$$ from the West for Oil&Gas. With Iran they are heating up the World and collecting the $$$$ from the crazy prices that they THEMSELVES cause .
15. #8 Russia's business with US, Israel realy concerns Syria
observer   (08.21.08)
the US & Israel supplied Georgia with arms and training against Russia. So, why the market should be closed in the face of Syria?
16. Syria would cut off its nose to spite its face
Jake   (08.21.08)
Since the birth of Arab Nationalism in the dying days of the Ottoman Empire, Damascus has proudly proclaimed itself "the beating heart of the Arab nation". Syria has always decried the "interference of Western imperialism in the Middle East" and decried the existence of the current boundaries as artificial constructs of foreign powers. It is, therefore, singularly pathetic to see Syria willing to hand over its sovereignty on a silver platter, and allow missiles of a foreign country to be deployed on its soil as part of a new Cold War between external powers.

20. Finish Damascus off - now
Rami ,   London   (08.22.08)
Israel is passively sitting by, deliberately lost a war, allowing its enemies to arm to the teeth, passively accepting the future unnecessary bloodshed. Israel must act now.

23. The Bush Admin. needs go GO
MK ,   USA   (08.22.08)
All of them need to leave the offices they hold. This administration simply does not know what it is doing. Had they been more diplomatic and respectful towards Russia, this whole regional anxieties would not have resulted. They keep saying "Russia needs to leave, and leave NOW"..... who are you to tell Russia what to do?? They are only provoking it further. Do we need more mess than we already have? What is so ironic is that Bush's words before the 2000 election were "America should not police the world, and it should be seen as a humble nation."...... No further comments.
