People equate intelligence and education with common sense. Nothing could be further than the truth! Too many individuals with professional degrees or doctorate degrees park their "common sense" out the door along with "their brains" and exchange it for "intellectual elitism" akin to pride and arrogance! The Bible was right! The beginning of all wisdom is "the fear (respect) for the Lord! Since when is ANY custom or tradition, no matter if ithis tradition(s) are centuries old more important the the commandments (will) of God! Be it Judeo/Christian or Islamic the commandment "Thou shall not kill" includes anything man deems more important that God's directive! Europeans/Western Culture used to treat women as chattel of men and Afro-Americans were considered property of the plantation owners. NO custom, NO law, No islamic counsel or mullah decree should ever supersede God's commandment.....The Shall Not Kill! Any lawyer saying "it was nothing" or "get used to this custom" is no different than a common criminal or murderer. He may have not had the gun to shoot one of these women whose only crime was to have the right to choose a husband rather than have the husband be chosen for her. By supporting the actions of both those who voted for the execution of these women and those who carried out the execution, he identified himself as a supporter of this detestable action! Don't equate education with wisdom or education with tolerance! Jesus said it most succinctly, "By their fruit you should know them." AKA....by their actions you will know which God they serve, and for many, be it the Islamic villagers or this despicable lawyer, it isn't God! They only use God for their evil purposes!

So called "Honor killings" exist also among Christians, Hindus or Sikhs. They also sometimes apply to men - which is a case even some regions of Pakistan. Illiterate desert tribes of Pakistan indeed have just one major source of information - mosques. But one can wonder why such ignorance - I mean automatic blaming of Islam - is so much present among Israelis - the proud citizens of the hi-tec hub of the otherwise backward Middle East.
