1. What? Does Friedman want to limit
Miriam ,   Israel   (09.07.08)
the control of the these self-elected judges who studied in the great Universities of Sodom and Amora and take their privilege away of running the country?
2. Kol Hakavod to Friedman!
Y ,   Nitzan, Israel   (09.07.08)
The appointment of Daniel Friedman as justice minister was the ONE good thing Ohmert did. Restraining the all encompassing/ all powerful Israeli supreme court is truely a worthwile endeavor.
3. About time...
David ,   tsfat   (09.07.08)
It's about time they threw out this King Henry the Eight garbage and modeled it after The American Constitution
4. the ONLY good thing of this governement

5. Supreme court? what supreme court?
Talula ,   Israel   (09.07.08)
The same one that sentenced Samir Kuntar to life for the cold blooded murder of Israelis. Who is now living the good life in Lebanon? Or the other hundreds of sentenced prisoners who have been or are about to be released. No law is rushed to pardon them and their sentences completely ignored. What a joke. Got news for you people, there is more to this than meets the eye. They only want the power to regulate legislative authority for their own gain - they are not thinking about the Israeli public or what is best for it..
6. #1 and #2...you are fooled
JAyyy ,   Israel   (09.07.08)
Read the article properly. Friedmann's reform aims to limit the High Court's ability to quash any legislation detrimental to human rights. That means what? This is all another devious Olmert plan for when he leaves office. These new laws will mean that the bogus Palastinians can claim and get more without the supreme courts interjection.! Friedman is Olmerts puppet....anything he does is only in Olmerts interest.....never forget that!
7. In a democracy, the Supreme Court's authorities should ...
Malka Ziv ,   Hofit   (09.07.08)
In a democracy, the Supreme Court's authorities should be limited. The Supreme Court's refusal to simply acknowledge Israel's duty to defend its citizens was made clear by its handling of the anti-Zionist Left's 2001 petition to bar the IDF from conducting targeted killings of terrorists. Although the measure is perfectly legal, the court took five and a half years to issue its ruling that the IDF is in fact legally entitled by customary international law to target terrorists. Why there was even a question that the IDF has the right to target illegal combatants engaged in an illegal terror war is unclear. Yet even in its self-evident ruling, the Court invented limitations on the tactic to demonstrate its concern for the well-being of terrorist mass-murderers. More at : http://xrl.us/kj6sj
8. The Supreme Court
sagi ,   Israel   (09.07.08)
should be precisely as its name implies, supreme. But then that definition does not suit our politicians, no problem, just change the rules.
9. #2 - you're 100% right !!

10. A step backwards for the Knesset
JPS ,   Efrat   (09.07.08)
I hate to break it to the nudnik talkbackers here who have a hatred for the courts: Friedman is waaay of base and driving this country backwards. Anybody who comes up with the absolutely retarded statement that this move is "strengthening the Knesset's status" should be immediately fired and sent to go write his memoirs. The people of this country have no faith in the Knesset to properly govern. Every single opinion poll in the past 20 years on the topic comes back with the same results: the electorate know that the Knesset is out of touch with the people, is self-serving, and is corrupt. Instead of attacking the root problems of the Knesset, Friedman goes after the guys he hates - possibly because they didn't appoint him to the Supreme Court. This country is in bad need of constitutional and electoral reform. Simply throwing knives at the Knesset won't improve our lives or the state of our government one iota. Does Friedman's proposal serve the people or the Knesset members more? The answer, sadly, is that it serves the MKs. If Olmert wants to create balance between the courts, knesset and his office, then let's see a constitution. More enshrined weakness from our elected leaders is not what we need.
11. congratulations M Friedmann and thank you

12. The problem is not the supreme court but the justices
Moshe   (09.07.08)
who are as anti-Zionists as Hamas, Iran et al.
13. #7 In a democracy, there would not be self-appointed Judges
Miriam ,   Israel   (09.07.08)
In a democracy, there would not be a self-appointed Prime Minister. In a democracy, the Prime Minister would not have the complete power to do as he wishes. In a democracy, the government would not be able to oust the Jews from their Jewish homes in the Jewish homeland in order to appease the Arabs and pro-Terrorists organizations.
14. First, take the ham-ass and fatah justices off the court.

Friedman's law is olmert payback against mazzuz who he hates. Of course a criminal hates the judge. Olmert is taking down israel wtih him as he will be indicted. Without the rule of law, israelis would long ago have dispatched olmert so he should really appreciate mazzuzz. Israel has a score to settle with this ogre as ben eliezer has said. Margalit, a close friend says he is a miserable faillure. Dror and winograd have said olmert is unfit to lead. Israelis have to decide whether they want to go into gas chambers again as that is where talansky's prince is taking them. we all know, if this was an argument in the school playground, most everyone would knock ehud's teeth out. Get this, Ehud has agreed to take in 20,000 arabs into israel proper. For this, all of his teeth should be knocked out.
16. indictment
marcel   (09.07.08)
Ehud, it is my pleasure to inform you that police have recommended that you be indicted for various crimes. Ahh, it feels good. Start suffering. For what you have done to israel, suffer. I hope aliza also feels good to be married to an indicted stooge. Probably she should have been indicted as a co-conspirator as she should have known that charity money was being used to fund her personal trips. Ahh, Ehud, this time it will be a long struggle. You will suffer. Then the israeli public will get their way to you and you should worry about their scorn for you.Have you looked into moving to new york? Finally, Ehud, prison is not so bad, but watch out for male rapists, they can be severe. Ehud, I wish you the same that you gave to israelis when they were rocketed by hezbollah and hamas.
17. #12 & #14: Supreme Court = Hamas & Fatah??
David ,   Los Angeles   (09.07.08)
The fact that you crazies can say these disgusting things, is enough proof for me that you are wrong.
18. #15
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.08.08)
Actually, Olmert loves Mazuz. After Sharon had his stroke, the law clearly dictated that Netanyahu should be PM. Mazuz used his power to illegally appoint Olmert PM. If Mazuz followed the law, Olmert and Kadima would have dissappeared long ago.
19. #17 wrong
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.08.08)
One of Sharon's main weapons in implementing the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, which Hamas and Fatah supported, was to shut down the Arutz-7 radio which had been legalized by the Knesset. The Supreme Court assisted Sharon by overturning the law, even though by overturning the law the Supreme Court violated at least two Basic Laws: Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Employment.
20. #13 Do you know there is NO democracy in Heaven? What Hashem
says, goes. ,   FYI   (09.08.08)
21. i love you ...
ragged soul ,   canada   (09.09.08)
for consistently making me laugh; you're keeping me young at heart. I'm sorry to see Israel go the way of the US - the world doesn't need yet another fasist state. Of course, that is the core of zionism though, is it not?
