1. Kiosks and stores that sell secular papers...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (09.11.08)
..in religious neighborhoods have been, shall we just say, harassed? The double standard strikes again!
2. lets see who will be the first to lash out
sammy ,   moshav zanoach , isr   (09.11.08)
lets see who will be the first one to lash out against the religious , maybge even tie in anger with the charedim now , who knows. the religious do enough for the army to be able to have their own newspaper , why is this even an issue?
3. harmful contents found in these newspapers??
Talula ,   Israel   (09.11.08)
It's not harmful contents, it's life! How can anyone be offended while reading a daily newspaper? Does this not show how detached these people are from the real world, so much so that they can't read a newspaper because they regard the contents as harmful? Harmful to who and why? I have no problem with them having their own newspaper in the bet Knesset so long as it stays there and is read by soldiers who want to read it and not distributed freely and forced on soldiers who are just not interested in the contents. I'm also not going to say kol ha'kavod for serving in the army - it's mandatory in Israel and every 18 year old needs to serve.
4. what about us??
orit ,   kiryat balik   (09.12.08)
And what about the gay and lesbian soldiers serving in the IDF? who is there to represent us? We should also have reading material that is geared toward our orientation.
5. you complain when they don't serve
Amnon   (09.12.08)
now you complain when they DO serve, but want to read something different. Grow up and stop trying to incite Israeli against Hesder and religious Jews.
6. If we can allow other special-interest papers
5th generation ,   Israel   (09.12.08)
such as Russian-language publications - that shut out the reality of one million people that they are, in fact, living in Israel - this is the last place we should stop. I'm generally anti-religious anything, but for G_d sake - we are living in ISRAEL (a largely Jewish state, for anyone just catching up).
7. Gosh, Talula, get some help
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (09.12.08)
Newspapers aren't "life". Ever since I moved to Israel I hear about religious coersion. I don't see it. I do see seculars disrespecting Torah Judaism. Christians and Muslims can got to all of their holy sites. Only Jews are forbidden from going to their holy sites in Israel. Moslems can have loud speakers allover the country blasting out five times a day and no one says anything. Modesty is a valuable and praise worthy trait. If a young man prefers newspapers that do not degrade women sexually, what could possibly be wrong? Why would you see it as a necessity for a young man, that He MUST read immodest newspapers? Is that your definition of real life? Not to mention the absurdly one sided politicizing in the israeli media. A soldier with right wing views is left feeling alieanated. You are so quick to justify the religious for not doing the army (despite facts proving the opposite) yet when facved with religous doing the army you disrespect them and write off their service as nothing.
8. About time
Shalom   (09.12.08)
Soldiers should be able to choose which daily newspaper they want, and receive it without having to go begging. What's the big deal?
9. only small minded bigots would mind this
Ilan ,   Ariel   (09.12.08)
Is this really such a big deal?
10. Freedom of occupation
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.12.08)
The IDF subsidizes the Left-Wing Ha'aretz by purchasing the paper and giving it to the soldiers. There is no reason for the army not to subsidize other newspapers. The only reason to not distribute a given newspaper is popularity. Considering that both Russian language newspapers and Makor Rishon are far more popular than Ha'artez, it makes sense to distribute these newspapers to prevent the suspicion that the army supports its political view.
11. #7 I need help?
Talula ,   Israel   (09.12.08)
Don't be such an Idiot. I didn't write anything AT ALL that was degrogatory or mean. It's all based on FACTS. Besides you have completely lost it - from your talkback you didn't even read the article. No time for losers like you, sorry. PS: I don't have to praise them for doing their army service. Serving their country is mandatory for every 18 year old - they live here? they serve! simple as that.
12. #11 Talula, have you served in the military as well?
Just curious   (09.12.08)
13. #11 Talula
Joseph ,   Israel   (09.12.08)
Today Leftist "anarchists" specially drove from Tel Aviv to Biliin to attack soldiers with rocks, succesfully wounding two of them. The soldiers were not trying to steal private property, but just guarding some tractors. Does your blood boil? Or do you support attacking soldiers with rocks?
14. YNet has jumped the shark
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.12.08)
Constant incitement against haredim and dati leumi, along with hugs and kisses for terrorists.
15. Storm in a teacup.
Arielush ,   Ramat ha Golan   (09.12.08)
Is this newsworthy? Each soldier should be entitled the the newspaper of choice be it Haaretz, Maariv or whatever.
16. #12
Talula ,   Israel   (09.12.08)
I was too old to serve in the military when I made aliyah. But I do community work and my boys are both in combat units. I'd say I'm doing my bit. So, come on then, let's hear it.
17. #13
Talula ,   Israel   (09.12.08)
I condem any sort of attack on ANY solder (including Haredi soldiers) by any sort of nutcase. Whether they be left, right or who cares what. Anyone that attacks a soldier should be dealt with in the harshest manner. Your talkback is a waste of space, and if you want an argument, you're gonna have to do a whole lot better than that.
18. Re: #3, "harmful content"
Michael Berg   (09.12.08)
Yes talking about the "harmful content" found in these newspapers was a stupid arguement. But anyway, what he meant by "harmful content" was probably the leftest leaning articles, many of which might ruin the morale of some of those serving in Tzahal. Anyway, nobody from the hesder yeshivot refrains from reading ידיעות אחרונות, haaretz, or any other secular newspapers. The real reason they should also provide religious newspapers is because many of the soldiers want them. That's all.
19. All soldiers have to be treated equally
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.08)
They all deserve the Israeli papers they want . I don't know if they receive them free , but it's not a big problem . Some more from this one , less for others .
20. To 14 , Kyle
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.13.08)
This is not your business , stupid kyle living faraway from here
21. No, no argument. I was just curious that's all. Glad you do
community work. We ,   all need to do that.   (09.13.08)
22. Talula is so wrong
Shimmon ,   Tucson AZ   (09.13.08)
Every young man and woman who serves deserves our thanks period. You and your judgemental secular leftists just hate anyone who pursues a relationship with our creator. How can you be a light to the world when your an angry anti blah bklah blah.
23. Why do muslim Israelis have the option to NOT serve the IDF?
Great White North ,   Canada   (09.13.08)
Where is the equality when Muslim Israelis get to opt out of the IDF. There should be mandatory service for all. They should even be allowed to read an Arabic Israeli paper while serving in the IDF. Even an Arabic Israeli gay lesbian paper.
24. #22 You don't even live here, so butt out!!
Talula ,   Israel   (09.14.08)
