We need to take into account the social and cultural state of the arab population. Stabbing a child should not be condonned, and a price needs to be paid by the group, if they protect the guilty. You ignore the facts of the IDF's inaction after this boy got stabbed. They could of arrested this Palastinian for attempted murder and arson, after he was pointed out leaving the scene, but chose not to. Obviously if the government wont protect its own people, then the people will take the law into their own hands. Dont blame the settlers for their actions....blame the government for its inactions!

The settlers are no threat to Israel because their ultimate goal is to revive the Halakhic state within the borders of the West Bank. What the settlers essentially want is their own country. The rebirth of the Halakhic state will help Israel out with its Chareidi problem and also ensure that there will be no Arab terror coming from the West Bank. The settlements are strategic, legitimate, non-violent responses to Arab occupation and terror and as such should be nurtured and expanded upon. They are also NOT illegal!

I think you will find that the most troublesome setlements are the illegal ones and yet the state does nothinbg about them, even though they may be built in the middle of land that has nothing to do with Israel apart from some rantings of the religious claiming they got planning permission in the old testament.

Why are only Jewish claims to the land put under scrutiny? Has anybody ever established a chain of title proving Arab claims of legitimate ownership?

It appears that the Israeli government is committed to not enforcing the law at all. They stop neither the Palestinian violence nor the Jewish response. The technical term for that state of affairs is anarchy. That is truly frightening. When governments fail to enforce the laws which forbid violence, the inevitable consequence is vigilante action. The vigilante groups become a quasi government themselves. Vigilante action happens all over the world when governments fail to act. A google search turned up examples in Australia, New Zealand, the US, and South Africa.

How many hits are the settlers supposed to take? A 9 year old boy isn't 'serous' enough to warrant a response? If this happened in an American neighborhood, the locals wouldn't be shooting just store windows! "You can take the Jew out of the ghetto, but...."
