2. being stupid is also a sin
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.28.08)
and, in many cases, also a crime. make her pay for the rescue attempt!
3. bla bla
eddie ,   london, UK   (09.28.08)
actually, if their lives were not in immediate danger on Shabbat, then there was no requiremnt for them to break shababt. However, boarding a helicopter which someoen else was piloting, woudl nto really constittute much of a crime, since "flying" itself isnt forbidden on shabbat :)
4. leave them there and come back after the chageem
Avi ,   Ramat Gan   (09.28.08)
Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous? not only do these idiots go back packing in dangerous conditions then they expect others to risk their lives in rescuing them . And when they come to rescue them they refuse because of Sabbath issues! Maybe next time they decide to go tracking they could send the authorities a list of convenient dates to be rescued that dose`nt clash with the high holidays! Get a life you sad people.
5. Their life was not endangered !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
Those religious girls were right . Telling that they were stupid or so , only shows IGNORANCE of Jewish laws . Not a wonder if we see the origins and "beliefs" of some tb'ers
6. Hard to believe, given YNet's bias against religious Jews
SL ,   NY   (09.28.08)
It seems hard to believe this story is 100% accurate. YNet has a long-standing pattern of publishing anti-religious articles and essays. However, if the facts are as stated, it seems like these girls chose a risky option which would not be sanctioned by any rabbi. Life takes priority over everything else (except for 3 cardinal sins which can never be violated, Jews must preserve their lives).
7. Are they nuts?
Ira Allen ,   Rutland, VT   (09.28.08)
If this story is true and two Israeli women refused a life saving rescue on Shabbat then their teachers should be embarrassed. This isn't a sign of piety but a sign of stupidity.
8. So let them stay there! En ma'la'sot!!
Secular ,   Israel   (09.28.08)
9. Eddie # 3 . Ignorant
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
Flying is not allowed on Shabbat . No religious Jew will board a plane this day .
10. Avi # 4 , Dangerous ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
There were no dangerous conditions there ,only a not foreseen snowstorm . Nobody did endanger his life to rescue them , meteo returned to normal .
11. pikuach nefesh
david ,   zichron yaacov, IL   (09.28.08)
They should have studied Halacha a bit harder and a bit more detailed: If someone is in mortal danger, it is OK to break the laws of Shabat. Preserving one's own life or the life of another person is more important than to save Shabat. There are plenty of examples in Talmud, Yoma 84b
12. SHABATH
adi   (09.28.08)
they will be punished by G*D to risk their lievs.. and by the way which SHABATH they actually follow in India... KEEP THEM THERE until after all festivals,,,FOOLS
13. The woosies left by helicopter and
mic ,   Isreal   (09.28.08)
and the smart hip ones hung out with the Indians and the other 100 foreigners partying in the beautiful Himalaya in the snow! I am jealous! This is the best time to be there if you can handle a little snow. I wish I was there now. Shana Tova, mic PS. You can bet your butt that if it were a real life and death sit. they would have flown. In the meantime it was a good excuse to have a few more days in the white wonderland. Without the woosies!
14. They're not religious!
EYS ,   Montreal Canada   (09.28.08)
Religious girl, whatever their community is (haredim, hassid, carlebach, yeshivish, you name it) DO NOT GO BACKPACKING somewhere in India. This is stupide and totally not what you expect from so-called religious girl. Now, for not taking the opportunity and jump in this helicopter, they are totally stupid and should deserve the utmost and immediate sanction.
15. Blind people
Shira ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (09.28.08)
This is a reality version of the fictive story about the man who is about to drown, but whenever a boat comes by, he refuses to get on board because "G-d will rescue him". In the end the idiot drowns, and asks G-d why he didn't rescue him.. G-d answers: " I sent you 3 boats..."
16. 2 israeli girls
sas ,   israel   (09.28.08)
they are STUPID and should not be offered any more assistance.
17. Re; #-12&14
mic ,   Israel   (09.28.08)
That's totally BS!!. I know at least 100 religious girls and guys that go to India backpack trek you name it. Their sanction should be to hang out in that wonderful place for another 2 weeks!! I'm jealous and religious and a backpacker once in a while in India (Hodu Ve Ke Tov) and also, Get A Life. Not everybody who is religious is as constipated as you. Shana Tova, mic ------------------------------------------ 14. They're not religious! 18. what if it were the other way round ?
Simon ,   TA Israel   (09.28.08)
and what if it were the other way around, then Indian pilot refused to fly because of their religious holidays? i`m sure we would here the cries of "anti antisemitism from New Delhi to Tel Aviv ! What next? will they be wanting Kosher meals flown in?
19. Darwinism is finally working!!
Gene ,   New York, NY   (09.28.08)
Now if only the rest of the Haredim got stuck up a mountain on Shabbat...
20. Can't you read , if you are ignorant
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
regarding Jewish laws ? There was no DANGER at them when the helicopter came to take them away . NO pikuach Nefesh , if you know what it means . They were in a safe place , but could not leave by road . And please , to some of you , leave your hatred in your fingers , not on the keyboard . Some disgust me with their stupid ignorant hatred .
21. Yehoshua said it was all right to do what is needful on the
Rivkah   (09.28.08)
Sabbath, such as rescuing one's animal from a ditch. The refusal of the girls to be rescued put the rescuers in danger as well as causing the expense of having to return. The girls were in error to be hiking on the Sabbath and compounded their error is refusing to be rescued. That reminds me of a woman in California who would not take a test for school on a Saturday because that would desecrate the Sabbath, so she didn't pass the course. But she fornicates and that is somehow justified.
22. stupidity comes in all shapes!
Moshe ,   telaviv   (09.28.08)
Why wuld the Indian government spend money and resources to save their A**, and they reuse t be rescued. This is real stupidity.
23. what would their parents say
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (09.28.08)
I'm just wondering what the parents of these girls must be feeling. The picture that comes to mind is the fire in the girl's school in Saudi Arabia where the girls were prevented from leaving the building because they were without headscarves. So they all burned to death. Granted this isn't the same case here, but the principle where rigid religious teaching overtakes common sense is why the secularists can live without the narcissist, blindly demanding and totally unforgiving God of the Haredim.
24. Pardon me but, that's just stupid!
petra ,   usa   (09.28.08)
God made sure the rescuers were there to help them and they refused?
25. What are they eating?
Malgo ,   B7   (09.28.08)
I've been in Kullu Valley and passed Leh Manali route, and don't remember kosher restaurant? Maybe girls decided to stay charmed by plenty of european boys?:)
26. Petra , not a god
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
But the Israeli consulate with the Indian army . Are you as stupid as this rivkaka ?
27. Malgo 25
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.28.08)
Religious people take food with them . There are also lists of products they can eat abroad .
28. Most of Indian food is naturally kosher
mic ,   Israel   (09.28.08)
Especially the million or 2 Brahmin owned places to eat or stay. They are more kosher than us sometimes. There are way more kosher places there to eat in there than here. # 23 what planet are u from? I am sorry to break it to you dear it's the one and only same G-d that created you and everything else. And if he can put up with dummies like you he can't be too demanding or unforgiving, now can he? mic
29. To those who can't wait to attack the religious
Ram ,   London   (09.28.08)
The least you could do is respect someone else's "emunah". If those two girls are religious you can but assume they know all about "pikuach nefesh". If they refused assistance there is no doubt they did not feel they were in danger. You have no right to conclude otherwise just so you can bash the religious. Negative posts such as those that appear on this article only go to show the "sinat chinam" that exists within the Israeli and Jewish population in general. We really have to make an effort to overcome this for the good of "am Israel". Shana Tova
30. If it were a muslim, hindu
motti ,   bet shemesh   (09.28.08)
or any other religion, the secular left would say " kol Hakavod" for standing firm in their beleif. But if a Jew tries to be Jewish... that gets to be the joke of Ynet audiance. I always laugh at how the secular Jew will respect the dress code in a non Jewish historical site or church, but try to tell the Jew to dress modestly at the Kotel.
