1. Nice of y-net to let the arab lie
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.09.08)
How about asking the Jews there what happened? This is not the first incident in Akko like this. Time to put the arab rioters down and to punish them on their "holidays". Time to close their mosques each Friday for six months. Remove the loudspeakers from the mosques. Finally if there was a guard named "Nissim" and he saved them,he should be shunned by his fellow Jews and fired by the security co.
2. He knew better than to drive into the area on Yom Kippur
redmike ,   Tel Aviv   (10.09.08)
He can feel responsible for all the damage done and the injuries and if he broke through a checkpoint then he should be charged. I don't condemn the violence but there is no reason for anyone in Israel to drive on Yom Kippur except for emergency vehicles. Maybe it should be made illegal to drive on Yom Kippur and that would solve the problem? Regardless of whether one is religious or not it's wonderful to see people walking in the streets, to see children playing and to hear birds to say nothing of the good effect on the environment. I'd like one day a month without cars. Mike
3. So he knew it was Yom Kippur so he drove thru a Jewish area
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (10.09.08)
So he knew it was Yom Kippur - so he chose to drive thru a Jewish Area. And he would also know there were Arab policemen on duty, and somehow his "family" knew he'd been attacked and came to his rescue.....!!!!
4. Predominant does not mean dominating
David   (10.09.08)
I live in a predominantly Jewish neighbourhood but have no objection to my non-Jewish neighbours, driving and going about their business on Yom Kippur - should I?
5. Jamal was looking for trouble and he got it!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.09.08)
Who is he to dictate who to bring to the town? Acco is Jewish despite the fact that it has been desecrated by Muslims for centuries. Arabs know only two situations - the situation when they rule and the non-Arabs are slaves, or if there is a superior power who keeps them close to the ground. Anything less than that means useless bloodshed on both sides. It is time to call the bluff and tell the truth - there is no possibility for coexistence for as long as Jews do not ACT decisively, relentlessly, mercilessly and with maximal destructive force against ANY Arab provocation. Only then Arabs will think twice before dreaming of wiping us off the map!
6. To Jamal the victim
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (10.10.08)
Hi jamal, I just hope you got the message: "Go home! Go to Jordan, Lebanon or wherever you want, just leave Israel. This is the land of the Jews, you don't like it? Just leave!!!!
7. Very nice !!
Yoel ,   Ra'nana   (10.10.08)
What about the jewish version? It's always the same, he was just a bypasser, and he's innocent.. I wittnessed some bade behaviour during Kippour last year in Kfar Saba: radio on the maximum, and with some arab music... We must be respected, and just imagine that WE have to restrain from eating during THEIR Ramadan in the name of respect... Jews weren't allowed to pray Selichot at Hevron because of Ramadan.... It's time to remind them we are a Jewish nation, and THEY MUST respect OUR rules and religion. By the way, what about the jewish version in this story? Only the arab's one. For me, this is a biased article which can only encourage violence from arabs. Very stupif !!
8. oh puleeez
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (10.10.08)
You "narrowly escaped lynching" how many times have your arab brothers here in hebron attempted to lynch me ?!?! oh boy they would have except for the fact tat #1 i'm not too small #2 i can fight.
9. Wow
Thundercloud65 ,   Oklahoma City USA   (10.10.08)
The more I look at the comments of Israeli people the more I feel the USA has no business being allies with them. Maybe this guy just screwed up or maybe he needed to get to work. For that he was nearly lynched. Sickening to most rational people and lets be honest: Israel is in an occupation and seriously engaged in an "apartheid" style policy. Quote your holy book all you want, (the Iranians do and who cares?) but your nation is not going to survive on the path it is on.
10. To the Racists
Awake   (10.10.08)
I could sit here and call you guys disgusting P.O.S. and a whole bunch of other vulgarities. But I decided against it. I decided I'm actually going to try and reach out to you on this one. It's pretty simple. You have your idiotic views, and that's...well, not fine to me. But something I kind of have to deal with for now. What I don't want to deal with is the stupid views being acted upon. You should know by now that any act is going to be viewed at critically. And that is going to not only make yourselves look bad, but those around you as well. And that's lame. Your stupidity is bringing your friends and neighbors and family down with you. So how about you try and be cordial in the future? How about you actually try and present your arguments in a respectful manner? How about you actually engage the Arab/whoever driver on Yom Kippur and kindly ask them to turn down the radio or whatever and NOT THROW STONES FOR ANY REASON. And learn how to use cameras. They're not difficult. This way you can actually have some evidence when calling BS. You should've learned this on your own when B'Tselem took up the idea but instead decided to squeeze your eyes shut and plug your ears and pretend the big bad Human Rights group would just disappear. Grow up. Be smart. Your insularity is turning into an embarrassment and it'd be nice to know you haven't all regressed into cavemen.
11. To Ricardo
Ted Greenfield ,   Des Plaines   (10.10.08)
I am glad that you could not be Jewish , with your Hostile, Maniacal ways, otherwise I would be embarrassed and feel the need for Communal Teshuva , on your account. What Barbaric nastiness you express to a fellow Human being , who's family I would guess has lived in the area far longer then your own.
12. #9 and #10
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.10.08)
You are the real racists, with your pathetic judgmental ways when you do not know the facts. Just one year ago, an Arab took a joyride through a Jewish neighborhood for no reason but to bait the Jews. He ran over and killed a little girl called Tal Zino. Just a month ago, an Arab terrorist drove his BMW into a group of Jews going to prayer at the Western Wall. The Jews in Acco had no reason to think that Taufik Jamal was peaceful and tolerant as he bypassed a roadblock to enter their neighborhood, for no reason, at high speeds. The Jews in Acco had every reason to think that Taufik Jamal was trying to murder them.
13. Jamal, time to go home to Jordan.
Great White North ,   Canada   (10.10.08)
Clearly you can't live like this, so its time to pack it in and return to your homeland, Jordan. There you will be among your own kind and freely drive on Jewish HIGH HOLY days. Otherwise, respect the fact that you live in a Jewish state.
14. Yom Kippur is not just about forgiving
vered ,   Israel   (10.10.08)
Jews or asking forgiveness from Jews, but from everyone. The poor man. So much hate in the name of religion, it's enough to make one an atheist. If there is a God, I don't think he or she or it has preferences. But I would think God would love the one who loves all his fellow man the best.
15. Disgrace
LRJ ,   London   (10.10.08)
Since when is it Jewish practice to stone anyone, Jewish, Arab, Chinese or Inca, on our holiest of days? I returned from synagogue today after reading Isaiah's stirring words about mercy, justice and God's abhorrence of hypocrisy, and then had to read this pathetic tale. And what response from readers? Only rancour, bigotry, ignorance and pig-headed racism. No-one can excuse the looters who then poured in to the Jewish neighbourhood afterwards. But from all I have read, I think Jamal himself deserves a full apology from the authorities and his fellow citizens. A cake for his family wedding or at least recompense for his damaged car would go a little way towards undoing the damage done. And yes, Jamal is as much a citizen of Israel as anyone else who lives there! Until we get that into our thick skulls we will never get, nor, I fear, will we deserve, the peace we pray for daily.
16. theres more to this story then were being told
Yisraeli   (10.10.08)
17. to #11 Thank G-d you are not a Jew!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.10.08)
You are a cowardly little creature sitting on his ass in the states. Too afraid to fight back. You little sissy man words will not help when fighting the arabs. Living in Israel is what helps. It makes no difference how long the arabs are here, they are trespassing on Jewish land. This is our Jewish land. We have the deed,it is mentioned in the Bible!
18. # 9 Thndercloud65
Shaka ,   NYC, USA   (10.10.08)
This guy intentionaly came to a Jewish neighborhood on the holies day of the year for the Jews who wanted nothing but quiet and prayer and he Provoked them blasting his radio cursing them and throwing bottles and lit cigarets. He was asked to leave and he continued his provocation and only then was he attacked by the people he insulted in their own neighborhood. Now if someone come into your neighborhood and is provoking you and your family while your are in prayer and you ask them to leave maybe some of the youth in your neighborhood would actout. Maybe he deserved it or maybe he didn't BUT he is lying and what happened next is the difference between Jews and Arabs. The Arabs started rumors that Jews killed one of theirs and they started rioting and vandalizing Jewish homes and stores. Jews fought back yes but that is to be expected. As for your limited knowledge on who is occupying what and how take your apartheid propaganda and shove it. Arabs have all the rights as Jews in Israel and they have higher standards of living including education, employment, healthcare etc than their Arab brethren in any Arab country so don't give me that Apartheid occupation bogus.
19. As usual, the truth is lost! My experience is this
Palestinian   (10.10.08)
I live in East Jerusalem and on Saturdays we have to take care of Medical services in Jewish neighbourhoods.... I have no clue why people start throwing stuff on my car when driving.... I know the status of Shabbat and so forth... I have no problem with that... But I have problem with people throwing stuff at our cars !!
20. disappointed
David ,   USA   (10.10.08)
Like many have said, both sides have not been told so I will make no judgments about who was right or wrong. But, I will make a judgment about the behavior. Is this what Torah teaches about Yom Kippur? Is this the behavior that honors HaShem? Is this the Fast that pleases Him? This is so sad. With this sort of behavior from Yhudi you will be waiting a long time for Mashiach. You can look forward to the land vomiting you out again. You expect us in America and other places in the world to respect you, to aid you, to understand you, to make Aliyah. For what? It isn't safe to walk the streets in Yerushalayim with young thugs attacking people. Yom Kippur is supposed to be a day of afflicting your nefesh and doing t'shuvah, not trying to stone people to death.
21.  but still ...30%...are not .
Fadi ,   Lobnan   (10.10.08)
jews ,do you want to prevent 30% of your population from driving .?? is this God's orders ..?? that is really weared stuff...shcking and funny at the same time reading some comments .
22. #12 Israel Israeli
Awake   (10.10.08)
Ah yes, no reason whatsoever to assume Taufik Jamal was being peaceful. Of course, no real reason to think he was being dangerous either. But good job, instead of trying to be kind and friendly and ask him to be courteous, let's just toss stones at him!! Good job Israel Israeli, you mind-numbing dolt. You now have no reason to cry when an Arab decides to attack any Jew without provocation. Cause these latest incidents have given Arabs no reason to assume non-violent intentions on behalf of Jews. Now that your faulty argument has just been shattered, has your head at least been slightly removed from your ass for simple logic to register?

Research Kobi Mandell and Yosef Ishran, and Tali Hatuel and her four daughters.
24. addendum
ben Ish   (10.10.08)
Don't expect B. Hussein Obama to rescue a Jewish Israel either. Imagine for a second David Ben Gurion saying "Well, lets wait until American elections." There would not even be an Israel to start with. Israel would have lasted for 24 hours, then no more. What is so hard to understand? Are we still waiting for the world to become sympathetic to Israel?
25. where are the facts?
Rafael ,   Yerushalayim Israel   (10.10.08)
The police report states that he was blasting music, he ran a checkpoint and was possibly drunk. Why is this information not included in your report?
26. Would Mr. Jamal...
Michael D. ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.10.08)
Have disregarded a Jew walking down the street in a predominantly Arab neighborhood eating a sandwich during Ramadan? Could he have found an alternate route that would have avoided disrespecting his neighbors' customs? These are questions that no one asks, yet everyone judges. If we are to respect Islam's customs, then Muslims must respect Judaism's customs, it's as simple as that. It's all about mutual respect.
27. The world is waking up
Mike ,   Liverpool   (10.10.08)
Glad to see these reports on what really happens. They very people that promote tolerance and diversity outside of Israel are dishing it out for the world to see. Double standards or what?
28. Could of been a terrorist
Zion   (10.10.08)
If I saw a car driving slowly though a Jewish neighbourhood on a major Jewish holiday I would be worried what's he's up to, he could of had a car bomb. and they way Arabs throw suicide vests on grannies and kids in Gaza our thoughts have to be very quick, he's lucky he got stones and not bullets.
29. the true story
Shoshannah ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.10.08)
Hey YNET - why don't you print in English what you print in Hebrew? Here's a translation of that story: According to an eyewitness report published by YNET http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3607155,00.html, Arabs carried out a planned attack against their Jewish neighbors on Yom Kippur. The witness, who said he was standing in the main square of the Jewish neighborhood of Akko, a city with many Muslim residents, when a taxi driven by an Arab entered the neighborhood Yom Kippur evening at high speed with music blaring and almost ran down children in the street. Surrounded by angry Jewish residents, he parked his car, cursed them, and entered a building, where he targeted residents with objects pitched from the seventh floor. Soon after, a busload of Arabs bearing truncheons, axes and knives crying: "Death to the Jews" and "Allah u Akbar" cut a swathe through the crowd of peaceful, fasting Jews, uprooting trees and street lights, smashing car and store windows, and destroying everything in their path. Jewish residents, who were fasting and unarmed, fled, taking shelter in nearby buildings. When the police arrived (some reported Akko police only had Arab policemen on duty and they were slow to respond, but this isn't confirmed) and finally arrested a few of the rioters, several said that this had been a planned attack which had nothing to do with the specific incident with the cab driver. Arab residents said some of the rioters were not residents of Akko, but had come in from outside several days before. There is now a curfew on the city.
30. I guess he found out what a Jew in drving into
Pete ,   Bat Yam   (10.10.08)
Bethlehem feels like or a Jew in Jenin, Ramallah or Kalkiliayah goes through. I am not justifying what happened, just stating a fact!
