1. dudi cohen? We'd be better with Howdy Doody!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.10.08)
Anyone who grew up in the states knows what dudi(doody) is. The name fits. Get in there and crack arab heads, pretend they are Jews.
2. arabs want "respect" then violate the holiest day. Stupid.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.10.08)
3. What a mess-up, I could have done better myself.
EGW ,   vancouver canada   (10.10.08)
8 injured??? EIGHT??? Is that ALL??? With all the frantic howling by Peaceniks and tremendous coverage by the media, maybe from as far away as Timbuktu or Cape Horn I'd have though that at LEAST a hundred or two, with maybe 8 DEAD and the rest seriously damaged...... Just a "storm in a teacup" not worth reporting, except of course that around Yom Kipur, other than reporting the amount of people having lunch in the local restaurants, there's no news. And FIVE HUNDRED Policemen???.... And the 8 only "lightly injured" which means that they are already sipping beef tea, held by a solicitous nurse, who has better things to do...............
4. #2 Do you expect the Arabs to respect the Jews
Sam ,   Los Angeles, CA, USA   (10.10.08)
when the leftist Jews hate the majority of Jews but support the rioting Arabs?
5. Get angry, Israelis
USA   (10.10.08)
6. Hopefully, the mistakes of the 2000 riots wont be repeated.
jack ,   richmond, va, us   (10.10.08)
It would be unfortunate if another intifada was sparked off by this. It is completely in the hands of the police. If the police kill a bunch of people, predominantly Palestinian Muslims and Christians, the situation will explode one more time and a bunch more people will get killed on both sides.
7. Dudi Cohen
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (10.10.08)
Is this the same Dudi Cohen who criticized killing arab terrorists and said the that's not the way he instructs he's people??? How can we expect effectivity from him? He should be giving flowers to the Gazans!
8. Who do these religious fantics think they are?
The Universal Jew   (10.10.08)
Arabs and Jews have lived side by side in peace in Akko. These Haredi settler right wing fanatics are just too bloodthirsty. I just hope Olmert manages to ush through his program of dismantling the settlements so we can get rid of Akko. Its outposts like that that make Arabs hate us.
9. "crack arab heads" ?
Matt-Israel   (10.10.08)
From the article it appears that the rioting started after an Arab man drove his car through a Jewish neighborhood; so, the Arabs started it and deserve to get their heads cracked? Somehow, if it had been a Jewish man eating a falafel in front of a crowd of Arabs during Ramadan I doubt Jason #1 would have felt the Arabs were authorised to riot. Disregarding someone else's religious beliefs, if intential, is rude and shallow. but it does not justify violence. Of course the Muslims are basically always up to something insane, but I am for one am also getting tired of Jews beating women for being "immodest," or forcing them to sit at the rear of the bus, or stoning cars because it is Shabat or a holiday. Just because Muslims act that way is no excuse for us to do so.
10. just like israelis
jerusalem   (10.10.08)
go into predominately arab neighborhoods, so can arabs. last time a news piece about the subject was published, i believe 2 israeli youths from a nearby settlement vandalized an arab's car and tried to frame him of the kidnapping of the youths.
11. just let it pass; it's Yom Kippur in action
observer   (10.10.08)
12. for Ah!merican readers this is a turf war!
(10.10.08)
You know like when the Sharks and the Jets were battling it out in West Side Story! Or like Watts (in LA), Detroit, Chicago, and Missisippi were burning! In other words don't come over here with your righteous comments fix your problems over there first!
13. The Israeli Arabs are “Palestinians”.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (10.10.08)
The Arab minority in Israel, which amount to over one million souls ( 20% of the total population) has been undergoing a process of islamization and “Palestinization” in the past few years which has brought it much closer to Fatah and Hamas positions in their conflict with Israel. Lately, the leadership of the arabs in Israel has submitted a list of demands that if adopted, would put an end to the Jewish nature of the state. More about the enemy within at : http://xrl.us/bi3hx
14. The arab driver broke a police barrier and drove wildly enda
assi   (10.10.08)
The arab driver broke a police barrier and drove wildly endangering Jews. Just a year ago a girl was killed exactly the same way by an arab who drove wildly on Yom kippur
15. It clear that as many benefits as the Arabs get from the
Cathy ,   USA   (10.10.08)
Jewish state they still hate Israel and the Jews. The terrorists acts in Jerusalem, the Arab support for the terrorists, the disobedience in the Galilee, the Arab race on the freeway, etc. prove that the Jewish Israel is being tested. The enemy outside of Israel is less of a problem than the enemy inside Israel be that enemy a terrorist supporter or a Beilinist.
16. To #9 This is our country!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.10.08)
There is only one Jewish country and it is Israel. The arabs show no respect to the state, just like their brothers the hara-dim. What happens when a non moslim is caught drinking alcohol in saudi arabia? They are jailed and flogged. The arabs must learn to respect the state of Israel or leave, same with the anti Zionist hara-dim. The modesty police should be caught and stripped and flogged in public.
17. Who is to blame
(10.10.08)
The real problem is less the idiot who drove his car into crowds of praying Jews or the fools who threw rocks at him. The problem is that Israeli citizens could have called the police but instead chose to destroy property while screaming the KKK-like racist slogan "slaughter the Jews". Most Israeli Arabs want to live in peace, so who is to blame? It is "Education Minister" Tamir who teaches the Arab youth that the creation of Israel was a tragedy instead of teaching that they should be a loyal part of Israel.
18. #9
eric ,   jerusalem   (10.10.08)
i totally agree with you. if this happened anywhere else and with any other religion, these talkbacks would be full of "holier-than-thou" comments about the absurdity of other people's religious intolerance etc. The guy drove a car, he didn't attack anybody, didnt blow anything up. The response to this isnt rioting which ultimately the state these people apparently "love" will have to pay for. grow up. just because certain other people in other countries pull cr@p like this doesn't mean you have to.
19. It was a stupid thing to have done!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (10.10.08)
Whoever hurled a stone at the Arab driver did a very stupid thing. Non-Jews can drive on Yom Kippur! What if it had been a visiting tourist - a non-Jew? This is not Saudi Arabia! And I'm sure that whoever threw the stone doesn't really care about Yom Kippur - he just wanted to 'show the Arabs!'
20. To #8 Universal Jew
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (10.10.08)
Hi Dear friend, Maybe you are "universal" but for sure you are not Jew nor know nothing about geography! Acco is under Haifa, in the Israeli coast, if that's a settlement, the the whole of Israel is one!!! BTW I cannot care less about if arabs hate us or not!
21. Where is Peace Now?
Dalia Lauer ,   Ofra, Israel   (10.10.08)
How will Oppenheimer and far-left Peace Now explain the Arab riots in Akko on Yom Kippur? Were all the responding Jews right-wing settlers? Will Peace Now go talk to the Arabs in Acre like it wants to talk to Hamas in Gaza? Will they march with Acre Arabs against the Jewish occupation and Judaizing of Israel?
22. What started the protest?
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.10.08)
23. the whole story
Israeli   (10.10.08)
an arab entered into a jewish neighbourhood with his car on yom kipur in order to provoke what angered the locals who started stoning the car. the arabs spread a false rumor as if the driver was dead and the mosques used their speakers to call the arabs the come and kill all the jews, a mass of arabs came with axes and other tools and started ruining jewish stores and threatning jews not to come outta their house.
24. DISTORTED NEWS AT YNET, YOU ARE AFRAID TO TELL THE TRUTH!
m   (10.10.08)
This is the 1st prize winning piece of distorted and obfuscating news I have ever read. It wasn't Jews and Arabs rioting, it was a POGROM by Arabs against Jews, the result of a provocation on Yom Kipur without police intervention for hours, with Jewish property destroyed. The police only acted when Jews defended themselves! And against Jews!
25. Akko- a disgrace
Gil Davis ,   Sderot Israel   (10.10.08)
It is a shame and a disgrace that an Arab drives into a Jewish place of worship- the holiest day we have breaking the law and causing the demonstrations. Would we ever disturb Ramadan- never. It shows what kind of mentality the Arabs are and those responsible in my view should be kicked out of our Jewish country- if they cannot accept the laws and rules of our Jewish state- then get them out...... We believe to learn and respect all beliefs and if they cannot do this then the answer is to kick them out of our Jewish homeland Israel. How much can we continue this way- just like Idi amin of Uganda gave the Indians one month to leave Uganda, so can we..... This is our only home Israel for the Jewish people- those again that do not want to be here , the Arabds - send them out. Long live Israel and bless our nation alwyas in Shalom, peace,
26. # 8, universal jew
david ,   herzlia,israel   (10.10.08)
please check your geopraphy before posting your comments. Akko is a city in the North of Israel, it is not a settlement in the west bank,
27. Usless Cops
Rami ,   Akko Israel not Acre   (10.10.08)
All the cops in Akko during Yom Kippur didnt do jack, the arab driver that claim he was picking his daught tried runnin ppl over and yesterday there was a war on the street and in about another hour it will break out again!!!
28. To #16: Yes, this IS our country!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (10.10.08)
The blame for this should be placed on MK Zkoor who requested Police Minister Dichter to increase the number of Traffic Police on Yom Kippur due to the "possibility" of violence by religious Jews against Arab drivers on the holiest day of the Jewish Year. This day is also the day we remember Israel's fallen on our Day of Infamy when Syria and Egypt attacked us in 1973 while most Israelis were in Synagogues and observing the Fast. One might ask MK Zkoor if he knew in advance that certain Arabs would deliberately drive in Jewish Areas on Yom Kippur or one might even wonder if, like others in the Arab Community, he might have encouraged this breach of the peace to start another Intifada. The fact is Israel is a democracy and as such we respect the customs and the traditions of other religions in our little land and we have the RIGHT to expect the same respect from Israeli Arabs. Just as secular Jews like myself do not drive on Yom Kippur our Arab Citizens should have the good sense not drive in areas where there are Jews on our holiest day. It should be pointed out to the leaders of the Arab Community that they should well remember the boycott by "Zionist" Israelis of their business, restaurants and services after the 2000 Intifada. Many Israelis like myself will still not buy from Arabs and should the Arab Community choose to exacerbate the situation I am sure the number will increase. The Israeli Arab Community leaders, particularly those in the North should do everything they can to stabilize the situation in the interests of their own people. Israel is our country and is here to stay. If the Arabs hate us so much they know the alternative!
29. Why did Arab driver enter Jewish neighborhood?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.10.08)
He crashed through a barrier and was driving at high speeds, looking for people to run over and kill.
30. Israeli Arabs must choose
gil ,   city of david   (10.10.08)
Israeli arabs are enjoying Israel advantages but hoping that israel will be wiped off ... Arabs which wants to join the big arab nation have 22 Countries to go in and leave his hated jewish state they should be more happy in gaza Amman or Damascus or Beyrouth . The people of israel is fed up of arab craziness and violence
