1. it's nice that idiocy is called what it is
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.11.08)
it is also good to see that the islamic leaders used their influence for good and not the usual incitement and victim hood routine. these men deserve respect. the rioters, not so much.
2. Sad
Al ,   Halifax, Canada   (10.11.08)
Every nation has it's problems with manorities but it's still griveous to see it happening between the decendants of Isaac and Ishmael.
3. what a sad joke....
Adam Gur   (10.11.08)
They ought to have condemned the "itbach al-yahood" - the "kill the jews" that was chanted at 3am by 500 arabs daring the jews to come out of their homes. They should condemn the muazeen who called upon them, and they should distribute such a flyer in their own neighborhoods for crying out loud...
4. Yeah...right...meanwhile in Aza...
rachel ,   chutz4now   (10.12.08)
De facto Gaza prime minister Ismail Haniyeh's spokesman said that the anger by "Jewish settlers" in Akko "should serve as a wake-up alarm to those who are betting on reaching peace with an occupation that rejects everything Palestinian or Arab." Spokesman Taher al-Nono accused "extremist Jewish settlers [in Akko] of acts of terror that could be the start of the final phase of ethnic cleansing of the 1948-occupied Palestine." He referred to the city as "occupied in 1948."
5. The Jewish tolerance is highly problematic.
The Jewish reality ,   USA   (10.12.08)
That is why the Arabs lost all respect for the Jews. Can you imagine what would have happened if a Jew had violated the Arab traditions on the most solemn day of the year? Take a look what the Arabs did when a Danish cartoonist depicted their beliefs in a cartoon.
6. That's a Nice Gesture
Ezra ,   san diego   (10.12.08)
Arabs are not stupid. Some are highly stubborn, like some other people I know, but this gesture is respectful and should be acknowledged.
7. Akko Arabs denounce Yom Kippur drive......WHAT ABOUT THE ARA
Simha ,   Toronto, CANADA   (10.12.08)
THE DAY THE ARAB WORLD ....Condemn and denounce this type of behaviour....WE JEWS AND ARABS WILL BE CLOSER TO LIVE SIDE BY SIDE IN PEACE I take this opportunity to WISH ALL AM ISRAEL A SHANT BRIUT VEHATZLAHA.. In ALL FRONTS
8. #5
P ,   Philadelphia   (10.12.08)
There's a difference between respect and tolerance - demanding that non-religious people honor religious restrictions is ridiculous - a secular jew could've done this just as easily.
9. WINDS OF WAR---AGAIN
hymie zoltsveis ,   NYC, NY, USA   (10.12.08)
Our Israeli "leaders"---the liberal and corrupt ones, such as Olmert, Barak, Peres, have weakened us so much that I doubt that we could---and also WOULD NOT ---defend ourselves against the arabs. These pogroms occurred in large part due to arab police being on duty on Yom Kippur. they did NOTHING---but beat Jews. The arab politicians calle dup more thugs, and more came in. We must expel all arabs from israel. Stop playing around. the arab will not change---especially with arab muslim Barack Hussein Obama (G-d forbid) as the next US Pres.
10. Spell in tright fist
David ,   Livingnearthesea   (10.12.08)
What are you talking about....can you see...after 60 years ..you cannot live with the native people of Aka. The native man drove his car in his city in his time in his day the way he and his father and grand father ....to the 100 grand fathers took in the last zillion years...and now a kid came yesterday from Poland want him to change his way...shame on the international community..shame on the international system ...shame on the short memory of the world
11. #10, Akko is the *original* name of the city
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (10.12.08)
As it was named before Arabs took over the Holy Land in the waning years of the Roman Empire. It's only a shame that it's remaining Jewish population was cleansed during the Crusades, as the city became known as Acre. But it is neither Akka nor Acre, and it *is* indeed a shame that some people have a short memory, and have the gall to name "natives" and "settlers" based on purely political considerations of ethnic/religious purity. Pan-Arabic Nationalism isn't dead, sadly. It's has just been replaced by Islamic Nationalism. The violence in Akko, though, shames both sides, but as has become sadly common throughout the Middle-East, a few rumors are enough for a huge mob to gather. Guess which side had the bigger, more violent one? I'll give you a hint - the same one that has them throughout the ME.
12. The problem was the mass destruction and riots
Ilan ,   Ariel   (10.12.08)
That one driver did something that offended some people and started a fight is a small thing. The problem was that the Arabs in Akko started a riot and torched hundreds of businesses as if they were part of some pogrom. That is the real problem but also much harder to solve.
13.  ARAB MINORITY ONLY 26%
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (10.12.08)
THEY HAVE GOOD REASON TO FEAR. THESE ARE NECESSARY PLATITUDES TO PERFORM, NOT OUT OF A HEART WARMING DESIRE,BUT THROUGH THE FEAR THAT THEY WILL BE ON THE RECEIVING END UNLESS THE BAD NEIGHBOURLINESS THAT IS PREVALENT IS SOMEHOW REDUCED.THE JEWS OUT-NUMBERING THEM BY OVER 3:1 RETAIN THE UPPER HAND.
