1. its so easy to say extremists
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (10.13.08)
The situation is more complex than just saying extremists are causing the problem. Part of the blame is the media who while reporting are trying to blow up the incident into a major conflict. If less is said about it, then less people will react. Certain items have become the play ball of the media who use it to sell their newspapers.
2. Arab mentality
Leah ,   Israel   (10.13.08)
Until the Arabs drop their tribal mentality and learn to live in a civilized society where people go out to work, bring up families and want to improve their lot rather than the tribal mentality of porgroms against anyone not of the Moslem faith and stay in the dark times of the middle ages.
3. You can say the same about our Hassidic #2
vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (10.13.08)
They also live in the past. Fanatics of ALL religions have been the cause of disheavelment in the whole world since Hashem found Abraham. The bare facts are still the same..... The ARAB TAXI DRIVER has lived in AKKO all his life. He knew the no go areas on YOM KIPPUR. He should get more than a pat on the head from his elders and our stupid Knesset. It's a sad day when one cannot worship their Holy Days in their own country. WE ALWAYS respect theirs, and even send our Christian friends Xmas cards from Israel. We have every right to be angry wherever we live in Israel. I'm secular, but I tell you this if this had happened in Ashkelon I would have rioted too.
4. Akko's exercise in tolerance =weakness
DT ,   TA Israel   (10.13.08)
As much as I utterly deplore any Jewish person destroying Arab land and olive trees etc nothing justifies the pro Arab stand by this Gov. over the Acre riots. This government is a government from hell, unelected and sympathetic to those who want to destroy Israel. The actions of the Police are merely a reflection of that.
5. How many Jews died from pere's words?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.13.08)
This unelected president along with two unelected chief rabbis are supposed to represent us? They do not represent me and I think peres should shut up. By words and deeds he strengthened the arab enemies, both inside Israel and out. This draft dodger placed the future of our country in mortal danger. We should have crushed the intifada long ago, even if thousands of arabs died. But he brought arafat and his terrorists here, gave them land, weapons, money and recognition in the world community. Let the Jews of Acre be armed to defend themselves as well as the rest of the Jews of Israel. Let the arabs fear to breathe too loudly, lest they incur our wrath!
6. Let's all pray for peaceful relations among all of us!
Palestinian   (10.13.08)
7. top picture
Ben ,   USA   (10.13.08)
The rabbis and Peres in the top picture - everyone except the Muslim leader - is smiling. Something about this picture says everything ...
8. Jesusalen
cristian ,   bs as arg   (10.13.08)
Jesus said jews did not think I had come to abolish torah and the prophets,I had come to complete them.
9. Peres, ex defense minister!, where was the IDF
observer   (10.13.08)
when 10 Arab houses were set ablaze. The quick response of IDF killing a Palestinian teen because of alleged possession of Molotove cocktail IN OPEN FIELD, has been badly needed in those situations.
10. Peres, what a hypocrit!
JAyjay3 ,   Israel   (10.13.08)
The man that refuses to accept that Oslo is dead and that there actually is no Palastinian people. He is a disgrace and does not represent the majority of Israelis. He was put into this position by the crooked Olmert ....and look how many terrorists have been released through the pardons Peres gives. He has his hands dripping in Israeli blood!
11. #9 observer
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.13.08)
And don't forget the"Grapes of Wrath" operation in 1996. As elections approached, Netanyahu had an advantage due to the Oslo bus war. To gain electoral popularity, Peres sent the IDF into Lebanon, killing 14 Hezbollah fighters and about 150 civilians, mostly women and children near Kafr Kana. Fortunately, Israeli voters are not as bloodthirsty as Peres imagined, and the invasion did not increase his popularity
12. It is So beautiful to see you togother shaking hands.
Simon Mohammed ,   Falls Church, VA USA   (10.13.08)
There is a lot you can do to explain and teach and educate your parties and other parties that you are talking the same thing you are just doing it in opposite way. You will be listed in history as a part of good reconciliator, the consolidation will come later from the upper. Good luck
13. What message are we trying to send?
Avi   (10.13.08)
By having Peres AND R. Metzger appear in the same photo? Was it unity? Well, these two couldn't be more opposite. While it is commendable to try to appeal to the whole of the Jewish community of that town, I don't know that having both of them together will do that. Is it the government commitment to peace and security within Israel? perhaps two sets of meetings. One of M. of Interior and Shin bet with City Hall, and another a town hall with respected community leaders from both camps would do better. I still have faith with mixed cities within Israel. But those living in them must want for it work.
14. Didn't Oslo work? Maybe it will work in Akko.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.14.08)
15. The outrageous behavior of the “Israeli” Arabs.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (10.14.08)
The police's permissive behavior is the reason of the impertinence of the lawless Arabs. Rather than arresting the hundreds who came to praise Dhaim the police did nothing. In Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem, as in the Beduin settlements in the Negev and the Arab cities and villages in the Galilee, the police simply refuse to enforce the law. They do not patrol the streets. They do not arrest religious, educational and political leaders who solicit terrorism or incite hatred. They do not enforce building laws. They do not protect state and privately owned land from squatters. Today some 90 percent of Arab construction in Israel is carried out without permits. Whole towns in the Negev have been built on stolen state land. Rather than enforce the law, the police does nothing. More at : http://xrl.us/bi3hx
