1. Bush Sr.
(10.22.08)
You wroye Bush Sr. twice so which is it Bush Sr. or Bush Jr.?
2. Fear mongering
Ilan ,   Ariel   (10.22.08)
Is Obama a reasonable man who will work with Congress? Most probably he will do more or less as would McCain in that. The next president will not have a lot of public trust to promote any radical plans in the ME or elsewhere. A Brent Scowcraft or a Baker protege may want it, but they don't have the final word.
3. We've been "a people dwelling" with Bush
Steve ,   U.S.   (10.22.08)
Maybe it will not be so bad learning to be a people dwelling alone. We've been a people dependent upon and dwelling with George W. Bush the past eight years and that has not worked out so well. As a consequence of dwelling with Bush, the Middle East has become a more destabilized region. Bush helped secure Lebanon for Hezbollah and Gaza for Hamas. Bush's war in Iraq served to strengthen and embolden a potential nuclear Iran. Israel depending on Bush to save her from Iran has proven futile and dangerous. Instead of taking matters into her own hands, Israel relies on Bush for her every move. Even Begin took defensive matters into his own hands. Did he beg Reagan for permission to defend Israel like these weak Jewish leaders -- Olmert, Livni, etc. -- beg Bush for permission to preempt Iran? No. Begin destroyed Iraq's nuclear reactor and Reagan condemned Israel just as Bush and Obama will condemn Israel should she attack Iran's nuclear reactors. But at least the Jews will survive. Depending on Bush, McCain and Obama will prove deadly for the Jews. Enough of this unhealthy dependency. We need to be a people who dwell alone. Better to dwell alone. Better to be a living lion than a dead dog, as the proverb says.
4. so what?
eli   (10.22.08)
garbage collumn.
5. And where is God in destiny?
Avraham ,   Los Angeles   (10.22.08)
Have we forgotten God? Do we really have the final say or does God still decide things? First of all we deserve whomever we get. Mc Cain: Means Me Kain (from Kain) Clinton: Means Cli Natun (given vessel) Obama: Means Oyi Vey and yes, we must all pray
6. Obama is coming
Harold ,   Syracuse, USA   (10.22.08)
Obama will never deal with lobbyist and that is for sure.
7. Obama is going home
(10.22.08)
8. fear ...
bert ,   yaffo   (10.22.08)
leads to nowhere. Only a guy like Obama can gain confidence from the enemies of Israel (you remember ? the people we're supposed to live amongst), and reach a deal that eventually will bring quietness to the people of the region. Don't tell me that the 8 years of Bush neo-cons policy brought anything constructive to Israelis. It's time for a change. We obviously don't expect journalists like you with such a narrow view of the situation to dig that ...
9. Israel must stand on it's own without America
Yitzi ,   Jerusalem   (10.22.08)
1. America has lost it's way. American politicians are not Israel's best friends. 2. As in many cases from Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Georgia etc. America is not a reliable protector of any nation. 3. Israel is in it's current position exactly due to being a client state of America, IE: Wye, Oslo, The Road Map, the Expulsion from Gaza, Samaria and the planned forfeit of Judea, Samaria, the Golan and East Jerusalem. 4. The day we announce that Gilad Shalit is to be delivered unharmed within 24 hours or we start carpet bombing Gaza City (an follow through) is the day Israel gets it's independence. We also tell our "Arab neighbors" that any interference in this plan will expose them to retaliation up to and including tactical nuclear weapons. 5. We launch a preemptive nuclear first strike on Iran and take out it's military and leadership and let the people of Iran retake the country. This can be done by leading with a series of EMP discharges to disable all power and communications, followed with low yield tactical nuclear bunker busters, and tactical neutron bombs on military bases. The radiation spread will be minimal and the above ground damage very slight. Civilian loss of life would be very low, and the losses to the IAF extremely low since most of this can be done with cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. 6. Should Obama win Israel will not only be on it's own, Israel will be forced to fight or die. 7. Most likely this is the end of days, and it will end with a massive attack on Israel that is defeated by Mosiach Ben Dovid. as it begins.
10. Dems bad for Israel
DT ,   TA Isr   (10.22.08)
Yippee ! It's about time Israel stood on it's own two feet and plowed it's own course. We have seen what happens when we are beholden to the likes of Bush for the last 8 years, not to mention Rice
11. Ridiculous scaremongering
Avi ,   US   (10.22.08)
Mr. Haber, perhaps it's better to admit that you are scared of what you don't know. By your criteria, few people should be elected US presidents. Do you really think your criteria guarantee success? Was Mr. Bush Jr. really helpful to Israel during his term? Think of it in net terms. Israel should look at the man, his character, and his values. Look at those with whom he associates. Obama beats McCain hands down. And, by the way, rubber stamping Israeli policies is not the most helpful American policy for Israel and the Jewish people. The Israeli leaders are not always working in your best interest.
12. Uninformed Analysis
Seth Morris ,   Washington, DC   (10.22.08)
As an American Jew, I am voting for Obama and so are the overwhelming majority of Jewish voters. Obama is a very strong supporter of Israel and was just endorsed by none other than Alan Dershowitz. Remember that James Baker, former Secretary of State for George Bush #1 made the infamous remark, "F@#K the Jews" and this was under a Republican administration. The writer has no insight into American politics and really nothing interesting to say nor does he give any compelling evidence to support his bizarre claims. For American Jews, support for Israel is the litmus test and we would not support Obama if we felt he was going to abandon Israel.
13. Obama Coma
Don ,   NY,NY   (10.22.08)
stalin would have been proud!
14. Obama is ahead in the polls like Peres
Logic ,   Israel   (10.22.08)
Election day may grant McCain a come-from-behind victory.
15. #12 You've gotta be kidding!
Logic ,   Israel   (10.22.08)
Look which foreign policy "experts" surround Obama: Lake, Powers, Brzezinski, McPeak, etc. It's the understatement of the year to claim that the above aren't exactly fans of Israel. On the other hand, McCain is solid on Israel. My bet is that Israel will sooner rather than later head to elections and vote in the right wing in order to provide some balance.
16. Irrational exuberrance
Driheart ,   Detroit, USA   (10.22.08)
Israeli like Europeans show much enthusiasm for a young inexperienced senator without having the slightest knowledge what Obama's true agenda is. He showed again and again that he is a crowd pleaser, that is, he will tell you any theory that will bring him votes. His campaign was briliant, but the reality of his plans is unknown. Certainly he wants USA to be a socialist country and abolish capitalism (except for himself). The defeated communists in old USSR must be laughing. He is blindly supported by African American who are the decisive force that got him to beat a much more mature Hilary Clinton. And now everybody is joining the band wagon. The destruction of American economy is certain: There will be no incentive to work, make money. No incentive to save. More people will rely on goverment support. Example: If one makes 600,000 dollars his ADDED tax under Obama will be 102,000 dollars or be taxed about 60% of his total income. On the other hand, those who have low income will benefit: If income is 25,000 dollars tax break will be 1,200 dollars and if one earns 200,000 dollars the tax break will be 65 dollars. Obama suggests that 95% of tax payers will have a tax break....The 5% filthy rich are paying now 80% of the national taxes. Obama will give 1000 dollars to those who do not pay any income tax. More than that: Obama wants to create an inheritance tax that will tax 80% of estate that is greater than one million dollars. Obama health plan means a cost of THREE Trillion dollars over 10 years. In present economy this is practically impossible. Much said about Obama and his foreign policy. I would not pay any attention to what he says: he will please Israel, the Palestinians etc. depends on his audience. Israeli who support Obama are as much brain washed as Americans are. With a billion dollars in his pocket he can do as much brain washing as he wants. His emergence as a National Socialist is scary. Israel should not trust Obama.
17. Israel is sovereign
Brod ,   USA   (10.22.08)
Even if Obama becomes President, Israel does not need to cow to him or any country that meddles in Israel's internal affairs and endangers Israel's national security interests. Israel should stop behaving like a colony to any country no matter the pressures and manipulations. And if Obama lets his balls be squeezed by the Islamist-Jihadist world to do their dirty work on Israel, then he is a useless President who is not doing his job in improving America's economy and creating more jobs and prosperity for the American people, and making America independent of Arab Islamist-Jihadist oil. And if he presses on Israel, Israel can say NO to him and to any of the AntiSemites in the world. While the Polls have been trumpeted by the Obama crusaders, the world should not be surprised if McCain/Palin win. America cannot afford to have a rookie at the helm that has created into a rock star and crusaded by the Leftist media-CNN, MSNBC and others to advance their liberal agenda.
18. #11 Are You Joking?
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (10.22.08)
"Israel should look at the man, his character, and his values. Look at those with whom he associates." Do you mean Farrakhan, Odinga, Reverend Wright, Gaddafi, Malcolm X? Or perhaps by those who endorse him? All of the above still living have. As wells as Al Queda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. Yes, judge a man by his associates, Avi! With friends like you, Israel needs no enemies!
19. This fluff piece contains ZERO:
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.22.08)
Facts or analyses. It is one of the stupidest, most dangerous articles I have seen on this website in a long time. Neither Bushes nor Clinton did jack shit to help us with security or peace. To his credit, Bill Clinton tried but Yassir Arabfart kiboshed those efforts. Yes, dumb-ass W rubber stamped Sharon's policies and then has proceeded to coax Olmert down the road to ruin throuh Ms. know-nothing Rice. In Barack Obama America, we and the world have an opportunity to deal with a man of incredible intellectual capacity and creativity. We need to hope he gets elected for the change WE need. I agree, its nice that Sarah Palin has a mini Israeli flag on her desk. Let her buy Israel bonds if she loves us so much, because in a position of power she and her running mate are capable of nothing. Just like we've had as far as leadership and vision from Washington: nothing.
20. # 12 Seth Morris you've forgotten,
Petra ,   usa   (10.22.08)
Obamas best friends in the black community hate Israel. Wright, Jesses Jackson ( who calls Obama 'the messiah". and his temporay cabinet if filled w/ more anti semitics. We all want a change from Bush but, this Obama will side w/ muslims if the wind turns ugly. BY HIS OWN WORDS IN HIS BOOK.
21. Obama bad for Israel
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (10.22.08)
Obama's history or whats known of it points to hard times for Israel. His short time in the senate tells very little. His advisors haqve been some of the most anti Israel or left leaning advisors in the U.S. Merril McPeak who has said the Jews in the U.S hve too much power,Brezinski need i say more,Samatha Power who would like to invade Israel. We all know about the Church he attended, and his minister for 20 yrs Rev Wright who Church bulletin is constantly supporting Hamas.Just go to these sites israpundit and Jews against Obama, you will find all the documents needed
22. obama
Lenny ,   NC US   (10.22.08)
Well, aside from what his handling of mid-east affairs will be, what about us poor Jews here? What will we have to bear due to his ineptness? Not ready to lead, it's true! We'll wait and see. Thanks, Lenny
23. stupid article
eddie ,   london, UK   (10.22.08)
a president of the USA is "good" for Israel relative to what one's politics are regarding Israel. Bush and Clinton both tried their peace intiatives and failed. They both manipulated Israel for their own benefit. Obama won't be much different. He will face many domestic problems and wont have time to focus on israel.
24. AIPAC is useless, Dem's and Republicans are useless
(10.22.08)
Israel doesn't need USA.
25. 7 millions israelis but unfortunately only 5 millions jews
(10.22.08)
26. barak HUSSEIN obama....a real nightmare
(10.22.08)
27. #12 Uninformed Analysis #2
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.22.08)
I pity you for viting for a person who has socialized with an Anti-Semitic church, Anti-Semitic Black Leaders, has no tangible political achievement to show for and also is of Muslim ancestry (who he tried so hard to hide) - this making him a liar too! You're voting for a big question mark with all that regards America and a big exclamation mark with all that regards Israel. The "evidence" you're so hardly seeking has been made public by his Pastor and the likes of Jessie Jackson. Pity you're so pityfully pompous to ignore all of it. Hopefully your "overhelming majority of Jewish voters for Obama" turns out to be not more than a small heap of self-hating Jewish Liberals trying to make a pathetic dent in History. Shame on you!
28. If the Democratic candidate wins
Avraham Rottman, M.D ,   Bet Shemesh   (10.22.08)
then the U.S. will have turned into an Obama nation!
29. You are on your own
Norm ,   Great Neck, NY   (10.22.08)
I am an American Jew, and I am voting for McCain. Yes, Obama talks a good story, but his church, friends and career have been part of the left wing "progressive" scene all of whom are very anti-Israel. After many conversations with Jewish Obama supporters it is clear that they only "hope" he supports Israel. This is not good enough, shame on them. Therefore, if Obama wins Israel must be prepared to militarily and economically on your own. Do not run out of ammo....our supply planes just may not be coming this time.
30. The problem is what we DO know about W and McCain!
David Turner ,   Richmond, USA   (10.22.08)
If Israel feels threatened by Iran, thank President Bush (although Israel is the least likely target; the real threat is the suitcase "dirty bomb" not a sophisticated warhead on a capable delivery system, which neither will Iran have for many years: it is the US and Europe, whose anti-terror defenses are years behind Israel who are at greatest risk): Bush freed Iran of her only credible enemy, Sadam Hussein. W also insisted on Palestinian election which propelled Hamas to political, as well as military prominence (over the advice of both Israel and Abba but, then, while clearly lacking in judgment and strategic planning, Bush definitely wont allow facts to stand in the way of inspiration or divine guidance); Bush encouraged Lebanon II, then ordered Israel not to cross the Litani. And the list goes on. It is Bush, and his 90% supporter McCain, the "known" who Israel should fear. Caution over a President Obama? Of course. He is an unknown. But Bush-McCain aren't.
