Republlican presidents greatly promoted Colin Powell up thru the ranks of the military. Many times Powell was promoted over higher ranking officers. IF Powell had accepted the Republican's many, many offers to be their presidential canidate, George Bush would have never been elected President. Too bad.

As some responders above me said, there are many crazy people in America, who want to murder just about every president that would be elected. Kennedy was not black. Being a maverick Democrat, he simply represented policies perceived too revolutionary to some conservatives. And in that respect, Obama is similar to him.
