As an immigrant from Germany I only can agree that Israeli Hasbara is bad to non existant. Most Israelis individuals or groups coming to Germany are non-religious or leftist, so how a regular German should get a different view? Amos Oz is all present there. Germans and Europeans just quote them or from Haaretz style media. As Jews, we should rely just on ourselves and not on allies who do not help when it is critical. If you really want a good argument with Germans, just ask them why Poland still occupies German territory and settled them after all Germans were expelled. As the Germans, the Arabs lost a war in 1967 and they pay for it. So simple.

The Germans are telling you that the Palestinians have won the battle for public opinion in the media. Granted, the Germans are reacting to years of being the children of the perpetrators of the Holocaust and it's guilt, and that they never liked the Jews anyway (which is one of the REAL reasons H***ler succeeded) but learn more quickly and start being 'the victim' and stop being Goliat to their David. The Germans make billions from the Iranian economy, its not just the Europeanization of their mentality toward Israel. Who knows who Al-Husseini was? Who knows that the Palestinians were NOT fighting because they only wanted a state for their own (most believe that!!)? But... FOR WHAT did they fight then? So the problem has a LOGICAL-INTELLECTUAL and an EMOTIONAL component. Crying "antisemitism" brings nothing if one isn't able to "decipher" this phenomenon, to understand the underlying emotions and thought patterns. Myself I'm sometimes engaged in these battles for fighting anti-Israel stereotypes: So I can say that most young Germans are not evil – but they know nearly anything about the realities of the Middle East so their conclusions are utterly wrong. I would like to know if the embassy staff who visits school classes, discusses some questions with the youngsters: 1.) "Do you think it was good that the survivors of the camps found a safe haven in Israel?" –"Yes, but the Palestinians...!" –"Sometimes there are people who always talk about "the fate of the Palestinians" and never lose a word about their responsibility for the fate of the survivors. And some even "love" the Palestinians – because on a certain level they see them as avengers for Germany [Palestinians allow them to counter-accuse]. But... ok... let's see what really happened in 1947. We Israelis are responsible for the Palestinian situation, that they have no state? Ok, let's see if it's true, let's see what logics and history say about this...!!" 2.) "Do you think that it is antisemitism to accuse Israelis for things they aren't responsible for? ...Ok, let's see for what Israel is responsible – and for what it isn't." Means... you have to WORK with young people! It means opening up a universe of history with plenty of interesting questions and miracles to discover. If there is not an EMOTIONAL and HISTORICAL-INTELLECTUAL understanding of why Israel acts as it does – the even more advanced questions make no sense, I guess. While I admit that we have some silly people in Germany, also some antisemites and some ignoramuses. For a German "Israel" has an emotional and an intellectual dimension. The main reason for the gradual change in German attitudes is the behaviour of the Israeli government. When the government negotiates giving away Jerusalem, the world thinks “this cannot be the HEART of the Jewish people. Who would give away his heart?”. When the Arabs rain thousands of missiles on Israel from Gaza, the world thinks “the Arabs are so angry they must have a legitimate grievance”. When Israel does not respond forcefully, the world thinks “the Israelis are holding back because they feel guilty of the way they treat the Palestinians”. The Jewish traits of charity and magnanimity are not understood by the Europeans. They understand that Might is Right. As long as Israel behaves as a weakling and begs the world to understand it, the world attitude will be increasingly negative. If Israel acted forcefully and decisively, the world would respect it and view it positively.

Allways this talk about the Jewish Holocaust and how the Germans must pay, but look how difficult it is to find details on the holocaust that Polish Jews inflicted on ethnic Germans in what was Prussia after the first world war, yes, before the Nazis where persecuting Jews, Jews where massacring German woman and children in Poland. Many of us survived and wonder why the Germans are forever to be demonised for thier inhumane crimes, whilst the Jews can erase the skeletons in thier cupboards.
