32. What Obama said...
David ,   NY   (10.30.08)
As the LA Times reported initially, Obama did not merely attend a dinner at which Khalidi was present. He delivered a toast to the man, saying without hesitation that the outspoken pro-Palestinian advocate and, at that point, soon-to-be director of the anti-Israel department of Middle East and East Asian Language and Culture at Columbia University, had played a key role in informing his world view. In Obama's own words, Khalidi offered "consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases… It's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation -- a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table,’ but around ‘this entire world.’” It is remarkable not simply how much about Barack Obama is unknowable, but how much of what is known about him is unknown to so many. The Obama campaign has managed to equate with anti-African American racism any suggestion that Obama harbors anti-Israel positions or "third-World" perspectives-- sentiments which he has freely attested to in the past. By the same token, they have managed to convince droves of mindless drones that he is purely pro-Israel, despite the lack of any evidence in his short public career or extensive career in Chicago to support the claim, and the preponderance of evidence to support the contrary. It doesn't cease to amaze me. Never before has the moniker "pro-Israel" been attached to a candidate with so little thought.
33. Obama would reign like Putin
redmike ,   Tel Aviv   (10.30.08)
I went to bed thinking about the 30 minute infomercial that aired across network and cable television last night and woke up believing that I finally understood what Obama really wants. He doesn’t want to be just another President of the United States and he really does want to bring about enormous changes! If elected, he would want to rein like Putin! Very few Americans understand what life under a Putin like regime would be like but members of the “New Party” that helped Obama and others to rise through the political ranks know exactly what it means and they have worked for years to bring about its implementation. Russia supposedly has Democracy and most Russians will tell you that they have one, but did the power behind the throne change when Dmitry Medvedev was elected last March? In 1787 a Scottish professor by the name of Alexander Fraser Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian Republic which occurred more than 2000 years ago. "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship." "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith From spiritual faith to great courage From courage to liberty From liberty to abundance From abundance to complacency From complacency to apathy From apathy to dependence From dependence back again into bondage”. Do his words signal the end of a cycle for America? Mike http://obamalikeputin.notlong.com

38. #33, sounds like America to me
Connie ,   Virginia   (10.30.08)
I happened to be off work so I went to bible study at my church. My pastor on Sunday talked to us about voting for biblical issues. McCain has the most conservative record. Obama is going to be the end of America as we know it. It is sad but we did it to ourselves. I had read somewhere that an empire or country doesn't last once they embrace the homosexual agenda. State after state is approving gay marriage. That's just one item but one at the forefront. My son is going to come home to a different America than the one he left.
39. BALANCE - McCain supported Khalidi at TOP of piece
RH Omea ,   Largo, FL   (10.30.08)
To the Editor, In your story you fail to point out several important facts which create a biased and inaccurate storyline in support of the McCain campaign's false claims. 1. McCain/Palin states that Khalidi is "a former spokesman" for the PLO. The article merely says that Khalidi denies such but should also include the fact that there is NO evidence to support such a statement as well. Leaving it unmentioned gives equivalence to the charge when his assertion is made with no supporting facts. 2. Despite your long discussion of exaggerated claims and alleged links to Sen Obama, this piece only mentions in passing at the last sentence, the well documented fact of Sen McCain's far longer relationship with and financial support of Khalidi. During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain approved and distributed several grants to the Khalidi's Palestinian research center, including one worth half a million dollars. This is not a claim of the Obama camp but a documented fact (http://big.assets.huffingtonpost.com/IRIForm9901998.pdf) supported by IRS filings. By leaving off these facts, your piece lends credence to McCain's spurious claims and creates an unbalanced and false impression of Khalidi and his political connections. It must be corrected immediately. Thank you for your attention to this important matter of fact so close to our election day.
40. Correction, #39
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (10.31.08)
The group to which McCain contributed funds was the Center for Palestine Research and Studies, or CPRS. With this group, Khalidi had a temporary and indirect association. Unreported by the Huffington Post and all you Obama KoolAid drinkers is that the CPRS is pro-Western and can be characterized as pro-Israel. In fact, its work has been condemned by the Palestinian leadership and by local terror groups as "Zionist propaganda." #39, your attempts to link McCain with Khalidi's other, Anti-Israel organization, the Arab American Action Network is a LIE! This nefarious group has hosted scores of Israel-bashing events, including at least one reportedly attended by Obama. McCain never donated a red cent to the AAAN. Sorry...inconvenient facts getting in the way of those who want to tar and feather an honored patriot, John McCain.
