1. I AM IN SHOCK ! SHE MUST BE JAILED RIGHT NOW
(11.10.08)
2. WHAT???
Talula ,   Israel   (11.10.08)
I cannot, but CANNOT believe this. It surpasses all boundaries of anything that is remotely human. It's absolutely obscene!!! Any decent PROPER nurse wouldn't parade around with those vile finger nails either. Don't know about heads rolling - the staff of that hospital would be more suited to a mental institution – they are not fit enough to be given the responsibility of caring for the sick.
3. Cute ! Why the storm in the teacup
rh ,   Modiin Israel   (11.10.08)
Self righteous indignation, from a load of ignorant fools The baby is perfectly safe
4. Why is everyone so quick to judge?
Dovid ,   Modiin   (11.10.08)
The practice of Kangaroo Care originated in South America. After gaining much success throughout that continent, the method quickly gained popularity throughout Europe and later in the United States. Modeled after the way a kangaroo carries her offspring, this direct, skin-to-skin contact is usually best accomplished when Mom or Dad is sitting in a rocking chair. The diapered baby, usually deemed stable by the medical staff in a NICU, is placed either on the father's bare chest or between a mother's breasts. "The parent's shirt or blouse is closed around the infant, and an additional blanket is placed on top," explains Karen Goldschmidt, B.S.N., R.N.C., clinical level IV nurse in the Newborn Infant Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "Infants need human touch to survive, and it is an important part of their development. Kangaroo Care is a wonderful, safe way for new parents to interact and nurture their baby. The infant is calmed through the warmth of their parent's skin and the sound of the parent's breathing, voice and heartbeat." http://www.pregnancytoday.com/articles/preemies/the-kangaroo-care-method-220 http://www.pregnancytoday.com/articles/preemies/the-kangaroo-care-method-221

6. O M G !
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.10.08)
7. senior nurse
carol ,   eilat   (11.10.08)
This unknown nurse should be fired the mother of this baby needs comfort after a premature baby not humour.Sick joke she should be punished for this behaviour.
8. "heads will roll"
The nose knows   (11.10.08)
This is absolutely appalling. If this nurse is indeed such a "dedicated" staff member, where was her common sense? I hope some heads will roll for this. Its gross negligence
9. Why is this shocking?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (11.10.08)
Even preemies need human contact and to keep a baby in an incubator all the time is a real cruelty. A senior nurse who has devoted her career to helping infants should know what she is doing. Does it make sense that she was callous or unaware of a danger to the child here? Something must be missing in this report.
10. Clearly overreaction!!!
L Jordaan ,   South Africa   (11.10.08)
I agree with many level headed people! The baby looks perfectly safe! These nurses is competent and caring, and if people want to cry out about something.. cry out against abortion!! Or child abuse, or even divorce! That is doing real harm! Stop harassing a poor nurse who tried to demonstrate a bonding method for preemies! This is a crazy world we live in.
11. Big deal
Doc   (11.10.08)
Seriously; she did nothing wrong, and the baby is safe. Get a life, people.
12. 4
Talula ,   Israel   (11.10.08)
Maybe it's normal in the Haredi community to put a premature baby in a pocket - well balanced people find it replusive.
13. typical "frecha" israeli
(11.10.08)
typical "frecha" israeli with horrible judgement. she should be fired without question!
14. Premees
zznhl   (11.10.08)
Stupid stupid stupid person!!
15. disgusting how this country
JL ,   israel   (11.10.08)
has become such a witch hunting paragon of sainthood...while the government rips us off in broad daylight
16. Kangaroo method is not controversial
Ilan ,   Ariel   (11.10.08)
See the following reference (one of many in medline). Birth. 1996 Jun;23(2):108-11. Caring for the mother and the preterm infant: kangaroo care. Ruiz-Peláez JG, Charpak N. Now some people may not know her mouth from a hole in the ground, but a person with some brains tries to understands things before commenting. If the kangaroo method is part of the accepted medical care then a teaching video about it can't be that terrible either.
17. #4 Your description of Kangaroo Care doesn't mention pockets
Patrick ,   Haifa   (11.10.08)
Firstly, #4 you describe how good 'Kangaroo Care' can be... nowhere in your description is sticking a baby in a pocket mentioned. This baby is in someones pocket... that isn't what you describe at all... there is no skin to skin here, there is skin to inside pocket material only. Secondly, that baby is too small to be in a sitting position, his/her spinal column can't take the pressure. I'm certain that this so called 'Kangaroo Care' practice is good; skin to skin contact will be great for babies. That's not what we see here, we see a baby in a pocket. Disrespectful at best, negligence at worst. Again, a child that small shouldn't be in a position where pressure (his/her own body weight) is being applied to the upright spinal column. That can't be argued against.
18. Preemie in your pocket
Connie ,   Virginia   (11.10.08)
It may have been a not so good decision to put that baby there but maybe she wanted to show how small the babies she takes care of really are. i don't think it put the baby at risk. All five of my children were born premature. My oldest daughter weighed in at two pounds and maybe an ounce or two. My second oldest and second daughter weighed four and eight and a half ounces. She was the biggest of the bunch. My sons' weighed 3lbs 15oz.,3lbs.10 oz. and 3lbs.8oz. My youngest came home on a monitor.
19. #4 Get a life
HAyhay ,   Israel   (11.10.08)
You obviously know nothing about nursing. This nurse did nothing wrong....the baby was in no danger and if you had bothered to read the story properly. she did it only as to get a great pic for her presentation......I would of done the same......BIG BLOODY DEAL! It makes me sick how so many people act like alta kakas and make an issue out of nothing Get a life you sad mean spirited people!!
20. Kangaroo? Do me a favour!!!!
Talula ,   Israel   (11.10.08)
There is no skin contact with its mother - there is no warmth with its mother - the only contact that baby has is the inside of dirty pocket. It's child abuse and it's beyond disgusting. I could cry for the way that baby has been treated.
21. premie
sas ,   israel   (11.10.08)
disgusting.
22. At least she didn't have a rocket in her pocket
Bernie ,   formerly Seattle   (11.10.08)
23. What's the big deal?
Juan ,   Spain   (11.10.08)
Better than 20,000 state approved abortions.
24. that nurse and however else involved should be fired!!!
(11.10.08)
They played around w/ that baby like it was a puppy or something. The baby could have been hurt or worse died. They could have used a doll. If I was the mother of that baby I would sue the hospital for mal practice.
25. to nr 5
Caroline ,   London   (11.10.08)
Are you kidding?Israel has amazing maternity and neonatal care. Please compare the amount of screenings done and technology present in Israel before you make such unsubstantiated comments
26. Really!
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (11.10.08)
Get a grip! She was modeling a certain technique for a presentation. No one thought it inappropriate to do except the parents AFTERWARDS, and then the slide was removed. There was no evil intent, only ill considered levity. No one suffered and no harm done. Get over it!
27. Proportions...
Dar Zeelon ,   Israel   (11.10.08)
Have people here lost their mind? Have the hospital PR lost their sense of reason? This nurse humoristically carried this very small baby in her pocket? SO F####N WHAT? Was this preemie in immediate mortal danger because of this act? Was this preemie in immediate health risk because of this act? Was this preemie scared out of her wits because of this act? Since the answer to all three question is negative, what were the a$$es that created this 'teacup sized' storm, over absolutely nothing flat thinking? And you know what? This is a cute gesture that I would not have minded, or protested, even if this child was my own flesh and blood. I believe the creators of this scene (and the protesters thereof) are very consistent with the scientific definition of the term 'stupid'... Dar Zeelon
28. Answer to # 12 Talula
jewish mother ,   jerusalem   (11.10.08)
What the hell has this got to do with Haredi??????? You just can't miss an opportunity for a dig. What, because the other person you disagreed with was from Modiin? Wrong!!! No Haredim in Modiin. Sorry, dear. I'm guessing you don't have kids. As we can see from your previous posts, you are in the habit of free-lovin' your way around the cattle markets of Tel Aviv. When you've had a baby, then get back to us with your whining, vicious comments. The neo-natal care in Israel is WONDERFUL. The staff are amazing. If this baby is off breathing help and out of the incubator, then it can come to no harm in a pocket for a quick picture. Find a nice boy ( or girl) who will put up with your caustic personality, have a child, THEN JUDGE. Waiting for your darling and ladylike response as always......
29. too little to sit up
Leena, Israel   (11.10.08)
Some people on this page are amazingly clueless - guess they are guys with no kids. Even a normal birthweight baby should not be placed in a sitting/standing position until age 4 months. Before this the baby's spine and hips are not developed enough to support his/her weight. It can do permanent damage. Furthermore a preemie baby should be monitored most of the time. This nurse is risking the baby's health and life
30. can't you people read?
sara ,   israel   (11.10.08)
it says ithe picture was part of a presentation and she didn't initiate the picture, she just posed for it. it's not like she was bored or something and decided to take baby out for a walk in her pocket. it might be bad judgment by the hospital but the nurse didn't do anything wrong.
