1. A tolerable price?
Talula ,   Israel   (11.17.08)
What does that mean exactly? Our soldiers getting killed? How easy for you to let those words just slip out of your bacteria filled mouth when your son is not the one going in.
2. actually that is probably the only thing
Danny   (11.17.08)
that would really hurt Hamas and probably Hizbollah too. Throw your hands in the air and go "you know what ending "occupation" doesn't seem to work so we are coming back. When we see there is a real option for us to securely pull out, let us know" Will kill Hamas dead - as the party that brought the Israelis back.
3. NO - DON'T spill soldiers' blood for PLO buddies of the LEFT
Moshe ,   Beit Shemesh   (11.17.08)
we should NOT send soldiers to bail out TERRORISTS. but the LEFT never learns.
4. We are not Fatah's army.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.17.08)
The only reason this screwy argument is being brought up is the total failure of Abbas & Fatah, meaning that the establishment of a Palestinian terrorist state is being obstructed by the success of Hamas in maintaining power. The wishful thinking peace-cultist wackos that, against all notions of common sense, feel frustrated that their screwball ideas can't be put into practice, are desperately searching for ever more bizarre ideas on how to achieve their aim. This is one such idea. So Israeli soldiers should risk their lives, not in our defense or in our national interest, but in the national interest of those who wish to destroy our state, to risk injury & possibly death, to advance the cause of our enemies. This kind of mental infection has been allowed to dominate our political scene for long enough.
5. excuse me sir,
avi   (11.17.08)
but, who said that if we leave gaza we'll have to enter it again ?
6. And u STILL dont have balls to admit
(11.17.08)
disingagement was a huge mistake! so now u want our sons to be killed for the sake of....what exactly is it? control of gaza by PLO? to hand it to them on a platter filled with our sons blood? u make me sick
7. whata brilliant idea! get as many soldiers..
abu'emo ,   Gaza city   (11.17.08)
as possible killed! I like the plan, u guys will do the job for us getting as many troops killed as possible and blame Hamas. we will come in without any effort. GREAT IDEA
8. smart move and no loses to PLO
Abbed ,   Ramallah   (11.17.08)
so who cares if few hundred soldiers get slaughtered in the process. As long as PLO gets a boost that Isr promises all the time-thats all we care about.
9. And a further two points ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.17.08)
Even disregarding the sheer idiocy of allowing a re-militarization of the Sinai by Egypt, notice that the idea is that OUR soldiers should fight & die & then hand Gaza over to an ''Arab'' force, which in practice, would mean an Egyptian force. Now why doesn't this brilliant strategist & political commentator suggest that Egyptian troops fight & die to eliminate Hamas? Obviously, because they wouldn't do it for a variety of reasons, prime among them that a significant segment of their population supports Hamas & the idea of our elimination. A second point that I would like to make is as follows. If I were to describe a situation where a dangerous terrorist organization has seized control of a territory on our border, has been arming & training to attack us, poses a significant danger to our security, is allied & controled by terror states to be used against us, disseminates hateful propaganda against Jews, & whose goal is our elimination AND if I were to suggest that we use military means to eliminate this threat, would the author agree? I'm not talking about Hamas but about Hezbollah in Lebanon, a far more dangerous situation than Gaza. But if were to advocate a military solution, you can be sure this author would brand me a war-monger, an extremist, etc. etc. But, to create a Palestinian terrorist state, expel several hundred thousand of our own citizens from their homes, & endanger seriously our survival, then, of course, military means are OK, he even calls it ''reasonable'' - Such intellectual dishonesty is shameful, to put it mildly.
10. This column should been written on ICE
Shlomo   (11.17.08)
11. I won't fight for Barnea/PLO
Z Lando ,   Tekoa Israel   (11.17.08)
Hey Barnea..... been drinking too much lately????
12. A 3rd way: Use the IAF to flatten the place!
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.17.08)
The Geneva Conventions do not afford sanctuary to civilians that give shelter to combatants, nor do they require a cessation of hostilities. As the Americans how they handled Fallujah.
13. RETAKE GAZA + HANDOVER to pa :do the job YOURSELF !
To barnea ,   eurabia   (11.17.08)
with olmert and livni kids ...
14. And Who Will Stop Fatah Al Aqsa From Rocket Fire?
Ben S ,   Brooklyn USA   (11.17.08)
Lets not forget it seems each Palestinian is a different 'terror group'. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al Aqsa, Al Qeda, PFLP, etc How about the OLD AND TRUE BUFFER ZONE OPTION!
15. Take it over, jail all ham-ass members, give it to Egypt.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.17.08)
16. to Terry(if this is even gona be published)

17. Rational? To give it right back to the enemy?
bjl ,   us   (11.17.08)
That is delusional not rational..only a leftist brain could come up with that. Pure delusional.
18. Hand it over to "Arab forces"??? What a FRUTCAKE!
dr. dave ,   usa   (11.17.08)
I love all these "brilliant" ideas by Wacademics and the "intelligencer" First. Who are these forces you speak of? Second. What "Arab force" would risk going up against Hamas after Israel "hands over" Gaza? Third, How long after the woos & corrupt PA take over will they be routed, targeted and executed. The only thing that ever worked with Arabs is ABSOLUTE DEFEAT. The entire Hamas infrastructure needs to be disemboweled and then Israel simply WITHDRAWS. Hamas will be humiliated and lose their standing, Gazans will lick their wounds, resume taking international handouts & the ayatollah,s pipeline will dry up. Then & ONLY THEN can they contemplate a new way of life other than hate, suicide and death. That's the NATURAL & ORGANIC way to do it. Do you have the stomach and balls to do that BARNEA? No!
19. In two years Abbas has not been able to control Ramle.
David Turner ,   Richmond, USA   (11.17.08)
Fateh appears as splintered, greedy and non-functioning today as it did the day after Arafat died. So the idea of invading Gaza, even if the time-frame is days with "acceptable" casualties is smoke and mirrors. Return Dahlan as security chief II does not solve anything. He couldnt defeat Hamas last go-round, even with Bush funding and training. Control the pro-Hamas clans this time around. Also unlikely. And, if memory serves, Israel was expected to defeat Hezbollah in days also. All told, this sounds less a dream than a nightmare. If Israel decides to invest lives and treasures to halt the limited threat to life and property represented by Hamastan, the she should go all the way. Reoccupy, then deal with all the costs in occupation, in Israeli lives, that the last occupation cost. Gaza represents a nuisance, not a threat worth the cost of another war in lives, treasure, and international support.
20. Fatah are terrorists too! The same ambitions as Hamass!
JAyjay ,   Israel   (11.17.08)
Enough of this moderate Fatah lies! They are just as much terrorists as Hamass! Has Abass changed the PA Charter? NO! Why should Israel help our enemies create a bogus....yes BOGUS Palastinian state! These Arabs are as much Palastinian as any other Jew or Christian living in this region! This myth of a PAlastinian people has to stop! Its a complete sham, that the leftist media has shoved down out throats! You want to solve Gazza.........MAke Egypt be held responsible! Simple!
21. Negotiation, not war.
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (11.17.08)
Interesting. We have a candid admission that it was not actually Hamas, which broke the cease-fire arrangement. We have Ismail Haniye on record giving diplomatic signals, that Hamas will live with Israel within its 1967 borders. We have the Saudi Peace Plan of 2002. But the commanders of Israel's army are talking about a crazy three-phased plan which is very likely to blow up in their face. Evidently the lessons of Lebanon 2006 have not been learned. Better think of the political cost associated with a military invasion of Gaza. The concept of Pyrrhic victory comes to mind.
22. Both Hamas and Fatah share the aim of destroying Israel.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (11.17.08)
This was made clear in the lead-up to the Annapolis conference last November. As US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced the coming of peace, Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas refused to recognize Israel's right to exist. Moreover, there is little to distinguish between the groups' embrace of terrorism as a means of achieving their aim of destroying Israel. Fatah forces have carried out more attacks against Israel than Hamas has. More at : http://xrl.us/bju8k
23. Try this solution.
David ,   USA   (11.17.08)
Go in, destroy hamASS, drive all Palis through Egypt crossing. Close crossing. Build Yhudi settlements in Gaza. Open beach front properties, Restarants, shops. Tell abu mazen to shut up and get out of Israel and take all his buddies in Yudeah and Shomron with him.
24. In war you destroy your enemy for good
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (11.17.08)
B"H A fighting enemy is not subject to human rights: the laws of war are clear and the first such law is to win!
25. Hamas is not the problem
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (11.18.08)
it is the people who voted for Hamas who are the problem they need to be removed
26. How about this phased solution?
Bennie ,   Jerusalem   (11.18.08)
Phase 1: Shut down all border crossings. Allow NOTHING in or out of Gaza. Phase 2: Take back Philadelphi Corridor Phase 3: Shut off fuel supplies Phase 4: Shut off electricity Phase 5: Shut off water Phase 6: Hit Hamas targets from the air Phase 7: Sit and wait a few days. Phase 8: Resist all pressure from EU, UN, Quartet, and whatever other Hamas helpers are out there. Phase 9: Offer Hamas and its fighters option of going to Tunisia or whatever hell hole will take them. Phase 10: Last resort, send in the IDF.
27. Two for one missiles
I. Barr ,   USA   (11.18.08)
For every missile launched from Gaza launch two back to them. Make sure that as many journalists as possible are present. Do not fire expensive sophisticated missile, just a few that will explode close to Gaza neignborhoods in the same tactics that Hamas is doing. Let the world see.
28. Gaza Debacle
L. Goren ,   Oneida, NY   (01.19.09)
Israel should finish the job in Gaza- Complete the destruction of Hamas. Instead- the current Israeli cabinet of fueding ministers are more concerned with the upcoming elections in Feb- and pandering to the Obama administration - and as a result the IDF will appear indecisive. This operation should have been undertaken months ago to let it play out-ignoring any outside political considerations or global grumbling from the media. How can the current operation be considered a success when the current political landscape forces the IDF to modify goals and curtail operations vital for national security. Can Israel continue to play this game?
