Any agreement signed with Assad will be worthless when he gets ousted from power (I personally believe it will be worthless even while Assad is STILL in power). the "palestinian moderates" are NOT fatah or hamas, but those who were never affiliated with any terrorist group, and who therefore have never been able to play a role in palestinian politics. the only way to escape from the seemingly inevitable creation of two new states, "of the terrorists, for the terrorists, by the terrorists", is to hold to the moral principles of not dealing with terrorists, rather than the immorality of the present government, where everything is negotiable. it is rather disturbing to see the head of military intelligence present such a deluded misrepresentation of the situation.

even though this assessment was delivered "for public consumption", it fails to deal seriously with iranian intentions. iran's behaviour cannot be explained with the idea of "testing", but rather "provocation" - bragging about weapons which they don't yet have. and "deterrence" only works against an opponent who hopes to win; iran seems determined to start a war and lose, so yadlin's "deterrence" will only backfire. instead of relying on military "deterrence", israel's goal should be regime change in tehran.

Syrian army intelligence has occupied abandoned buildings in Kuneitra. Hizballah has be rearmed thanks to Iran and its sock puppet, Syria. Syria continues to house Hamas and other Palestinian terror leaders. Syria is about to arm itself with a "missile shield" from Russia, not to mention the purchase of a large amount of Russian heavy armaments. (Against which the ever-delusional Olmert abased himself and Israel by groveling before the Russians, begging Putin not to send such arms.) As for "moderate" Palestinians: Abu Mazen continues his "slow jihad" 2-step with the gullible West and wishful-thinking Israelis, while pronouncing his commitment to destroying Israel in his Arabic tirades.
