1. US peace proposal
alexi   (11.25.08)
Take a look at syrian right of return conference. Okay-do you get it. who cares what Ehud olmert offers-he has no real experience to offer Israel. He offers concessions for nothing. What a sh***k!!Limited truces is about all you could do. US proposals are wishful thinking.
2. No Compromise
smith   (11.25.08)
No Compromise resume very wheel peace talk with Arabs country and Palestinians.
3. Non-existant rights
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.25.08)
There is no such right under any international law. In fact it is in direct violation of the UN Charter. We decide on who can and who can not be citizens. Not the Arabs, not the EU, not the US, nor the UN. Just us.
4. amos harel and olmert
alexi   (11.25.08)
Amos harel of haaretz ponders what it will take for ehud olmert to make a comeback after Mazuz fails to indict him.Whatever Ehud does, he had zero chance of ever coming back as he is hated by israelis, hated. He is recognized as a failed PM, failed military leader regardless of what the bought winograd said about him. He lost to hamas, he appointed peretz, he has no understanding of security matters. This etrog is really too much to take as thejournalists and mazuz are protecting olmert while he does t heir bidding. Harel can say what he wants, olmert will never be reelected as he is considered yellow vermin to all of israel except Harel and winograd.
5. Haven't they heard? Everyone knows what solution looks like.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (11.25.08)
This is one of the dumbest lines I hear from left leaning Jews and Israelis. In fact I heard it at a Shabbat lunch with an American immigrant family in Tel Aviv only last week. The "everyone knows" points to the general thrust of the Geneva Accords, or the Saudi plan, or the Clinton/Taba parameters. Yet we don't hear PA or Arab leaders telling those who insist on the Right of Return that "everyone knows" it's not going to happen. What everyone *should* know is that the Arabs as a whole will never settle for "half a loaf"; they want it all. So why are we the ones who are a priori conceding the game? Why don't we push an alternative solution, like Elon's Israel Initiative, or an "outside the box" plan like my own Sinai solution?
6. Right of Return ...to Palestine
Tim - Brighton ,   UK   (11.25.08)
7. RIGHT OF RETURN TO JORDON.
Petra ,   USA   (11.25.08)
WHERE THEY CAME FROM. ISRAEL HAS NO RIGHT TO CEDE LAND TO HER EXPLODING ENEMIES.
8. "palestinian polititcal goals"?
oded   (11.25.08)
who's kidding who here, their goals are simple-- eleiminiate the zionist entity in thier midst. period end of discussion. everything around this motive is flufff and meaningless trivial.
9. #7 and return
English person ,   London   (11.25.08)
As usual a sincere and well thought through comment in #7. Return to "Jordan where they came from"? Ok - now explain how a Palestinian family with the deeds to a house in Jaffa or some erased village actually came from Jordan. Seems your grasp of legal niceties is about as sound as your grasp of the concepts of equality and humanity. As 92% of 1948 Israel was not actually bought or acquired in a legal manner, it would seem blindingly obvious that it was acquired in an illegal way - i.e. through theft, illegal transfers by the devious method of declaring Palestinians "ne'edarim nohakhim" (go look it up), by various wholesale bouts and scare tactics, by expropriating non-Jewish bank accounts, businesses, land, homes. So you haven't read much about 1948 - that's fine. But it doesn't give you the right to sound off ignorant and meaningless rhetoric. May you marry a Moslem.
10. very good news
Charles ,   London   (11.25.08)
this uncompromizing stand of the Arab opponent means that "negotiations"and "peace settlements"as well as ceding of more land are made impossible. Am Yisrael chai
11. No such thing as "right of return"-evil, lying spin...
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (11.25.08)
Just say "NO" - d__n it! When G-d said "I will gather you from the four corners of the earth and bring you back to your land", He wasn't speaking to the arab muslim occupiers. May ALL the Jews from around the entire world go to Israel - NOW!
12. Resolution 194 and the “right of return”.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (11.25.08)
The point about repatriation is made in the context of calls for broader agreement. In addition, the passage referring to repatriation also cites alternative possible dispositions for refugees, specifically resettlement and payment of compensation. Further, since resolution 194 was a General Assembly resolution, it has the force simply of a recommendation, not a “requirement,” and so cannot be construed as establishing a “right of return.” Finally, all Arab states voted against Resolution 194, precisely because, in its call for conciliation, it entailed implicit recognition of Israel. Supporters of the “right of return” are thus claiming a “right” not only not established in the document they cite but also referring to a single, corollary provision of the document and, in any case, contained in a document the Arabs universally rejected. 13. Arab refugee and jewish refugee.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (11.25.08)
Indeed, tens of thousands among the Palestinian Arab elite fled before the start of hostilities, eager to escape the anticipated fighting. Of those who left during the fighting, most simply sought to avoid the hostilities. In various locations, most notably Haifa, from which about 15% of the refugees originated, they fled despite well-documented appeals by the local Jewish leadership that they stay. Some, perhaps another 15% of the refugee total, were forced to leave, from areas such as the villages that prevented Jewish access to Jerusalem and were part of the blockade and siege of city. About 120,000 Arabs remained in the areas controlled by the Jews, constituting about 16% of the state’s early population. The Israeli Arab community has grown to constitute currently more than 20% of the population. But what of the Jews living in areas that fell under Arab control? Every one of them was either killed or expelled. Not one remained. You ask about a right of return of Jews forced then and in subsequent years to flee the Arab states, in fear for their lives. Few presumably would want to return to those states. But what about a “right of return” of Jews pushed out of those Mandate areas that fell to the Arabs? Not only do the Palestinians not recognize such a right, but they insist that every Jew currently living in the territories taken in the 1967 war must leave, including descendants of those forced out in 1947-48. Nor does it speak well of the broader world community that it so widely endorses the Palestinian leadership’s insistence that what it claims as its territory must be Judenrein. . So how do we address the problem of almost 1 million Jews (now 3 millions) expelled from Arab lands in the 40's and now living in Israel? Of course two wrongs dont make a right. Wrongs have occured on both sides. The answer is for Israelis and Palestinians to have their own countries to build their own futures

Yaron ,   USA   (11.25.08)
While you may be correct about your assertion about improperly expelling some Arab inhabitants from their homes, what you neglect to mention is that the same occurred during countless Arab pogroms on Jews living in Israel for thousands of years. There remains a large majority of Muslim Arabs who stayed and who now enjoy high living standards when compared to their counterparts around the rest of the Arab world. Additionally, what you neglect to mention is the nearly 1M Jewish refugees from Muslim Arab countries who were expelled from their homes as well. I suggest you study your history a bit more as well, since your BBC influenced opinion seems to only shed light on one side of the story.....married to a Muslim or NOT.
16. reply to #14
Moshe ,   tel aviv   (11.26.08)
The almost 1 million Jews (now 3 millions) that were expelled from Arab lands should be sent back to where ever they came from. The Palestinians also should be allowed to come back. If the right of return is the price to peace, then so be it.
17. #16 I have a better idea
