Petra ,   USA   (12.03.08)
ISRAEL MUST RECOGNIZE THAT A LEGALLY PURCHASED HOME IS THE CAUSE OF CONTENTION AMONG 'SETTLERS'. THEY ARE TIRED OF BEING ATTACKED BY THE SAME SYSTEM THAT IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THEM. ASK ARIEL SHARON.. IF YOU CAN.

I take exception to your venomous hateful and spiteful remark about Ariel Sharon. Only a sick witch would say something like that about someone who has been in a comma for nearly 3 years. Piss off and don't interfere – concentrate on the politics in your own country.

I wish I could make sense of all of this. If I own a house and have the papers to prove it, I should be able to live there. If some of my neighbors had a problem with that, I’d expect my government to give them a serious “talking-to” and make sure they’d leave me alone. If the government says I don’t own the house, they had best come up with proof to that effect. If they can’t, but want me out of that house anyway and for whatever reason, they had best pay me what an independent appraisal establishes as the value. If they throw me out of my own house, don’t pay me, and then let it sit vacant, this old lady would be so pissed, no telling what her brain would conjure up, but it wouldn’t be very pretty. Praying wouldn’t enter into it other than to fervently beg not to get caught having done something not very pretty. What am I missing here? Is the concept of Eminent Domain not known in Israel? Eminent domain is the right of a government to force the owner of private property to sell it if it is needed for a public use. The right is based on the doctrine that a sovereign state has dominion over all lands and buildings within its borders, which has its origins in the landholding system under feudalism. Eminent domain is implicitly enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, which in the Fifth Amendment requires that private property not be taken for public use without just compensation. The process of acquiring private property by eminent domain is known as condemnation. Eminent domain traditionally has been used by governments to condemn land for building roads, schools, government buildings, and the like. The right of eminent domain may also be assigned to public and private corporations engaged in activities regarded as benefiting the public, such as the development of port facilities, the building of a canal or railroad, or the redevelopment of a blighted area. In 2005 the U.S. Supreme Court, in Kelo v. the City of New London, ruled that the Connecticut city had the right to condemn non-blighted private property and transfer it to another private owner for development even if the only public benefit might be increased employment and tax revenues. Public outcry over the decision subsequently led most states to adopt legislation or constitutional amendments that limited, in varying degrees, the ability of state and local governments to use eminent domain to condemn private property for use by a private corporation. At the same time, some government officials and private developers raised concerns over how the laws and amendments would affect their ability to undertake large-scale development projects. Leaving out religion and Right vs. Left, would somebody please educate me as to the legalities applying to the situation in the article and similar ones and why they don't seem to be working?

patriotic young people? that is hilarious! Youths who rise against the very army that defends their small minority in Hebron, are not patriotic, they are traders to their country. I think it is odd that when jewish youths throw rocks at soliders, it is being patriotic, but if young arabs throw rocks at soliders building the seperation barrier through their village, you call them terrorists and say they deserve to be shot. Such a double standard!
