1. Let's wait for the new government first
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (12.10.08)
because these idiots screw up just about everything.
2. You are right #1, however.....
Ken ,   Edinburg, TX   (12.10.08)
The artillery is already in place and it wouldn't take a military genius to push everyone in the strip into egypt and seal up the border behind them. Then you can fill gaza with israelis and troops and no more rockets or suicide bombers from that direction.
3. The bottom line
Ofer   (12.10.08)
All this talk is so much bla bla bla. Not other country in the world would allow its citizens to be attacked without a devestating reponse. Look what the US did to Japan because Japan attacked an American Navy base. We could exact a severe price from the Hamas government without endangering a single Israeli souldier. Our leaders are afraid of world opinion? Who cares? Our friends will support us and enemies condem us.
4. Interesting article (+ #1)
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.10.08)
Of course the government should respond regardless of the elections. Being too cautious or too zealous for the sake of votes should deter voters. I say should, rather than would, since voters are not particularly sophisticated. It really is up to us to notice when we are being played, and demand that politicians do their jobs regardless of timing. Otherwise these windows of opportunity appear. #1 and why do you think the next government will not be a bunch of idiots? I rather they do something than sit on their hands waiting for the next lottery.
5. Rationalizing inaction.

6. #5 Terry, make up your mind.
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.10.08)
Should there be a military operation or not? Either way these leftists don't seem to please you. :-P
7. Peace with the Arabs ?
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (12.10.08)
A colossal error in Israel policy was the “disengagement” and dismantling of the Gaza settlements in 2005. It was an empty and strategically futile course of action bordering on historic crime. All of the rationales offered by Sharon, Olmert and company were completely rebuffed in the face of the dreadful security reality. In order to justify the policy, various easily refutable reasons were raised. One of those was – “one makes peace with enemies”. Well, they did not make peace with Hitler. They did make peace with enemies that were defeated and changed their ways like Germany and Japan after WWII . Violence, terrorism and lying propaganda are second nature to the PLO and Hamas and they will therefore never be a fitting peace partner. More at : http://xrl.us/kkjaf
8. QUESTIONING WHETHER OR NOT TO ATTACK SHOWS WEAKNESS
dp   (12.10.08)
you already know you will face an enemy bent on your destruction, why wait for them to carry out their intent, get them before they get you
9. "SHEKELS"?... "ATTACK"! ... "SENSE"...?!?!?!
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (12.10.08)
EQUIVALENT TO DROPPING MONEY FOR HUMANITARIAN PURPOSES OVER HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI ,ONLY TO BE FOLLOWED UP BY ATOM BOMBS... OR STILL FURTHER BACK IN TIME ...LOOKING AFTER AMALEK BEFORE EXTERMINATING THEM . EHUD BARAK SHOULD GIVE A GOOD REASON FOR IMPLEMENTING SUCH ACONTROVERSIAL POLICY
10. To #2
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (12.10.08)
I won't say what exactly would take to solve Gaza problem militarily because I'm no expert, but I'm willing to bet it's not going to be just aerial raids. We've seen that 2 years ago in Levanon and it kind of didn't work. That's why I'm saying it shouldn't be done under this government they have proven their idiocy too many times. Besides, they are more concerned in expelling Israeli citizens than protecting them.
11. To #4
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (12.10.08)
I don't know what the next government will be like but I have hope and to be honest, a monkey making random decisions would do better than kadima after Sharon era. I do realize that Bibi is no perfect fellow but at least this time someone will be elected into office which clearly wasn't the case with Olmert.

It's called a carrot/stick policy. The only problem is they ran out of sticks.
13. Oh! Let's wait of course...let them get Hizbullah strong!
BJL ,   us   (12.10.08)
Everyday delayed means more dead IDF soldiers...This gov will have blood on it's hands and another inquiry to find "what went wrong". Olmert, Livni and Barak's policy is criminal negligence. Look into the faces of the young IDF who will needlessly die by waiting for Hamas to get stronger.
14. If
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (12.10.08)
B"H If "democracy" paralizes Israel to defend its citizens, let's close it down: Israelis, don't vote! Let's send them home for good!
15. #6 Avinoam, Tel Aviv - Israel
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.10.08)
The Gaza problem is complex, no doubt about it. A few minor military operations will cause more harm than good. I am not in favour of publicity stunts for the benefit of some crappy politicians. At the same time, I would not be in favour of a re-occupation of Gaza. We should not have left but I can't see much benefit to re-occupation. I didn't like Mr Ben-Yishai's approach because it confers a sort of legitimacy on Hamas. Our actions should not have anything to do with what Hamas wants but only our interests. At the same time, we should realize that strangely enough, the existence of Hamas has advantages, notably preventing a Palestinian state, a move I vehemently oppose. So, essentially, what I'm saying is that we should severely punish Hamas, weaken them badly, enough to show a clear-cut, unambiguous defeat, but not destroy them totally or try for regime change. Cause them much pain to re-establish deterrence for the time being & then wait until our new gov't. is formed to decide further steps. We have bigger fish to fry (I mean that literally) than Hamas.
16. approved by security cabinet are you sure ?
cordier   (12.10.08)
I have listened Livni... I think she doesn t agree with you.... Barak is doing NOTHING even Livni, Olmert say that...
17. Israel is weak
Yiannis Kareklas ,   Athens Greece   (12.11.08)
Israel is weak , very weak. It has lost all its ability and willingness to fight. Under such circumstances the future of Israel is uncertain. For those who would tell me to shut up and look at my own country , I would answer that the Greek government is very weak as well and we are living under anarchy , no state rule.
18. what to do
nana ,   jerusalem   (12.11.08)
when you can not attack you will wait .and when you can not wait you will attack .but when you can not attack and can not wait what shall you do .... somebody went to hajj and someother go to hajj while it was finished
19. # 17 I Agree Israel Acts Weak
Lawrence Tendler ,   Safed Israel   (12.11.08)
That is what the Bible means when it says " How are the mighty fallen".
20. Seems like an easy solution #2
BethesdaDog ,   Bethesda USA   (12.13.08)
Except the world, including the US, will go berserk. It would be nice if the same could be done with the West Bank, but the world won't permit it. As Carolyn Glick writes in another publication, the extremist regime to be ushered in by the new US president-elect is already thinking about sending US or NATO troops to challenge Israel in the West Bank. Why American Jews would vote for this con artist and doubletalking liar is beyond anything I can comprehend.
21. Got to be loony!
Colby ,   USA   (12.17.08)
Who are we trying to save here, them or us? We can't have both, and the decision is coming soon.. fight like the men you are, before it's too late.. :(
22. Let's be rational about this!
Josh ,   Atlanta   (12.17.08)
All this talk of immidiate attacks and all this worry about the g'ment's inaction bothers me. I mean, it's not like these people are shelling you with rockets every day.... Oh, right.
