1. EXTEND TRUCE TO WEST BANK
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (12.13.08)
So far, Hamas has made concessions but Israel has done nothing. Hamas wanted the truce to include the West Bank, but Israel refused, and Hamas gave in. Violence is due mainly to Israel's campaign of arrests in the West Bank, which sometimes results in deaths. Palestinian groups in Gaza then retaliate with rockets on Sderot. Sharon conducted a unilateral disengagement without consulting the Palestinians, and the truce is essentially also unilateral. For peace, the desires of the Palestinians must be taken into account. Israel must choose either having its way on everything or compromising and gaining a genuine, peaceful truce.

5. gilad shalit
richard mallin ,   tampa   (12.14.08)
If this boy ever comes home, alive and not crazy it will be a miracle. tha only thing Hamas understands is strength. They see Israel as a wimp and they will play with you. You are afraid of world opinion. Listen, the world doesn't care about you. They only care about themselves and the ease of getting oil. Now that the oil is low, do something. If you think after 3 years Shalit is healthy and well, you know how Hizbollah tricked you in Lebanon. Be smart, don't say anything what your plans are, before or after. Everything should be secret and destroy Hamas, onc and for all.
6. Barak's Lacky

7. 2 more months
A Nice Fellow ,   Montreal   (12.13.08)
Israel will have to endure just two more months of this defeatist, corrupt, worthless joke of a government and defense minister. It is incredible that Israel is incapable of responding to enemy mortar fire on its cities, just unbelievable, but soon a new Likud government will be in power and the rules of the game will change.
8. once a country the arabs feared today an object to laugh at
zionist forever   (12.14.08)
There has been no ceasefire things just got a little quieter to allow Olmert to justificy all the concesions he has been making and to continue making more and as things were a little quieter it kept down the election demands. During the so called ceasefire there has been plenty of rocket attacks it hasn't been the step towards peace this waste of space sell out government would have us believe it has been. `The price for Gilad Shalit went up after we stunned the arabs by agreeing to release Kuntar for 2 corpses, even Hezbullah never expected Olmert / Livni / Barak to agree to that and afterwards Hamas put up their price. If they agree to these new demands where crossings won't be closed even if there are rocket attacks then it will proove this regime has totaly lost the plot and will do anything to avoid a confrontation with anybody. The one good thing you can say is they have now eveolved and gone beyond making empty threats and then surrendering to enemy demands now they just demand and we immidiatly wave the white flag we dont even pretend to be tough anymore. Thanks to the dominant left wint this country has gone from being something the enemies feared and respected to a weak and pathetic entitiy thats lost the will to survive and if it doesn't it will be because of left wing sell out polices not because of a superior enemy,
9. Neither Israel or the IDF support it - Barak does!
redbourn ,   Tel Aviv   (12.13.08)
and the vast majority of the country doesn't support Barak. We want him gone and fast. He brought rockets to the north and is allowing them in the south. Mike
10. Israel NOT in favour of extending anything.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.14.08)
Only the crooks in gov't. are in favour.
11. Continue this weakness and Shalit will be dead.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.14.08)
12. headline is misleading
Arie ,   BaGolan   (12.14.08)
Israel is NOT interested in continuing the current state of "let the islamofascists terrorize us while we do nothing." Only the 1%ers of kadima/labour want what only they describe as a "lull." That will change in February when a real representative government is elected
13. "Useful idiots" and "Deer in the headlights" leaders
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.14.08)
One has to pity those "useful idiots" like Arik in Milwaukee (#1) who, in their ignorance and bleeding heart moral presumption, have internalized and can only regurgitate enemy propaganda. Of *course* Hamas wants to extend the so-called ceasefire to the West Bank. IDF operations there are the only thing preventing Hamas from extending their presence there, which would put even more of Israel under threat. And, as many of us expected, Hamas has used the lull to import yet more weaponry, and train for the coming battle. But Israel's political and military leaders should know better. Yet they hesitate, like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car, unable to decide how to react. Gilad and Barak want to extend that lull so they can defer acting on a building threat.
14. Truces made kept broken renewed = money RIGHT ???
M. S. ,   mpls america   (12.14.08)

15. Cease Fire?Did I miss something?Someone explain,please
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.14.08)
Could someone please explain how this is considered a cease fire? I am not being sarcastic. Kassams and grads are falling daily. In what way has the last week been positive for arab/israeli relations?
16. What ceasefire?
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (12.14.08)
Not breaking the resistance force of Hamas today means that hundreds of thousands of Israelis will be brought within range of Hamas rockets later. A ceasefire agreement with Hamas means that we will soon receive a stronger, more protected, better-armed and better-trained Hamas. Cities such as Ashdod, Be'er Sheva and Kiryat Gat could soon be in Hamas-rocket range. Several Hamas leaders have declared: "We will strike beyond Ashkelon…" More about Hamas and Gaza : http://xrl.us/kkxrc
17. Hamas / Olmert / Livni / Barak win Israeli citizens loose
zionist forever   (12.14.08)
Israels political & military leadership do know better but they are not interested in whats best only what will be good for them in the short term. Before the ceasefire formerly came into effect Hamas on the record said this is a tactical move its not going to last longer than 6 months we will continue to smuggle in weapons its our right etc etc. The politcal leadership knew all the facts and they had experiences from previous tempory hudnas but they ignored it intentoly. At that time it was an attempt to create an artificial calm to allow Olmert to continue negotiating for his nobel peace prize and in the hope it would end calls for an election and make the public believe that peace is possible. This time round neither Livni or Barak want to be fighting an election with terror from Gaza going on because the public Bibi on security issues more than them so they dont want a situation which plays into his hands. They also want Gilad in the hope that if they can deliver him then it will be the immidiate public mood which has boosted will create enough confidence in the government long enough to win the election. Olmert wants this truce to last to allow him to continue negotiating for as legacy and make backroom deals while the oposition is busy worrying about winning an election and Bush is also looking to create a legacy in his final weeks in office. Hamas wants a deal because they are worried without it then it will lead to a military solution and maybe even lead to them being overthrown in Gaza. Lomger term as long as they have quiet they can try extend their influence into Judea & Samaria and they are already extending their hand to Obama wanting him to do deals with them. The only loosers long term will be the Israelli public because the inevitable will be delayed and while we leave Hamas to do their own thng and we let supplies be brought in through open borders we allow them to build up their strengh so when the showdown does come it going to cost alot more Israeli laves and be alot harder to carry out a military operation. Barak made this mistake when he ran out of Lebanon not doing anything about Hizbullah first and when the inevitasble happened and the next war came about we were faced wilh a well armed and well trained enemy.
