I have a suggestion - why not elect Shimon Peres? He's done more for the Palestinians than Arafat & Abbas combined. And we'd be happy to get rid of him.

If Abbas is serious and he doesn't intend to stand in the next election then Marwan Bargouti is going to be the next one to be released as a goodwill gesture and it will be very soon. Arafat was moderate because officially at least he had given up his claims to all of Israel and wanted 2 states. Abbas former Arafat right hand man was moderate because he wears a suit. Bargouti facing over 100 years in prison who can speak hebrew & english is a moderate even though his own prisoners document which is supposed to be some sort of peace plan says that armed resistance is legitimate. If Osama Bin Laden dressed right or said the sort of things the Israeli left & the west wanted to hear he would be called a moderate.
