1. you believe their reports?
ecr   (12.29.08)
just like the one that said some arab was killed and all of a sudden he shows up? I don't believe aword the arabs say.
2. I thought so too
Gilad ,   London UK   (12.29.08)
This is roughly how I see the events unfolding. Although I do not know of any details relating to level of success, it does appear that there has been a successful disabling of parts of hamas' infrustructure. An invasion will turn that back in some ways, giving Hamas clear targets to aim at. And with explosives hidden in sites, they often would not even need to be there to make the kill. However a ground operation still seems to be a requirement in order to secure that success. I just hope what the IDF is planning is as well thought out as the air campaign APPEARS to have been.
3. It's nice to have mad hope...but I'm a pessimists
The Business   (12.29.08)
While definitely confusion is a factor on Hamas's side, I think they are just waiting for the int'l community to come in and save them. Once the IAF stops then they'll prepare a massive bombardment, to 'show' that they can do this and that the strikes had no 'effect'. The force must now be ratcheted UP and shouldn't stop until the commanders are happy with the results not the media.
4. IDF are waiting for the serpent to show its head
Ronald   (12.29.08)
Its my impression that now the IDF is actually engaged any retaliatory action by Hamas will be met with ferocity, and that the IDF are just waiting for the enemy to show its head. Most certainly its early days, but I get the feeling that there is , for now anyway , a degree of determination from Olmert & co. In any case, its best to confront this threat. Olmert made it worse by not acting sooner, but a start has been made. Like most others, I sincerely hope that the operation is allowed to continue until a satisfactory outcome for Israel's security is achieved.
5. Wishful thinking
James ,   Raanana   (12.29.08)
6. rockets still rain you
b ,   dfb   (12.29.08)
around %50 of the dead are kids, women, or civilians the others are mostly police cadets policemen and traffic police. stop this BS
7. What a savage
George ,   Canada   (12.29.08)
Is few rockets toys that end up in open field require this death toll to deal wiyth? This beyond any logic .Is turkey ,the Israeli and American ally is allowed to take the same measure with Kurds. It is pretty much the same case. This does not mean I am supporting killing Kurds .
8. Their girlie leaders didn't show up?
petra ,   usa   (12.29.08)
what are they afraid of, death? I thought these 'brave resistence fighters' would at least be NEAR their second in command. Now, perhaps they'll have to show up on the battlefield or lose. Hell, they lost anyway just wipe them out!! Do the world a favor, PLEASE!!
9. If I Knew.. I wouldnt tell you
R Hitchings ,   Methil   (12.29.08)
as the Gaza inmates need some form of retalaiation against those who starve them
10. REMEMBER MONTY PYTHON?
MR. POTATO HEAD ,   GOOD OL USA   (12.29.08)
The delusional psychosis that eminates from the Arab street is absolutely amazing. Does anyone remember the Knight who had his arms and legs cut off in battle and insisted it was only a fesh wound? It is almost insane how the facts on the ground can be so twisted by a twisted society. Things will only improve for your pitifull existance when the hatred in your souls changes to a love for your children.
11. Our army
Yona ,   Israel   (12.29.08)
The Hamas is very tricky. They could be saving a big and horrible surprise for us. We should not, by any means, send in ground troops. The Hamas wants us to do this. All of Gaza is booby-trapped and they are waiting to kill our soldiers like sitting ducks. We should only bomb them from the air.
12. Nr 11, Yona is right!
Gavriel ,   Budapest - Jerusalem   (12.29.08)
Wait with the ground troops. Continue with air stikes without stopping.
13. Hamas' Secret Weapon
evluo ,   US   (12.29.08)
You know what would be the devastating tactic employed by Hamas? Just to go under for a while and make absolutely no noise. Order all their troops to lay low and zip their lips. No noise, no response to any comment or their future plan, no talk about truce or surrender. This would drive everyone nuts.
14. TOYS?
craig ,   israel   (12.30.08)
Toys? Are you kidding me. They start firing missles. MISSILES!!!! Israel showed as much restraint as possible. What, they have to wait before a rocket lands directly into a crowded area, and then retaliate? Think man think! This just shows that people like you, ignorant people like you are nothing but anti semetic and stupid. You don't live there. You only watch what is on the tube. See it and feel it and then open your mouth. Until then go eat some canadian bacon and choke on it!!!
15. Kill the terrorists all
China civilian ,   China   (12.30.08)
Kill the terrorists all! Chinese stand with your side! Drop hellfire to the XinHua News Agency's reporters that always compose fake story to fool Chinese people, just like the US did in former Yugoslavia.
16. #11,12- that only reveals cowardice
GUH   (12.30.08)
17. he might be French-Canadian
David ,   America   (12.30.08)
With a poor command of the English language, or a muslim import. Nevertheless, if the rocket toys were landing in his yard he'd be singing a different tune.
18. Disregard armchair general #16
DaveM ,   Cranston   (12.30.08)
I too am concerned about Israeli casualties if a ground incursion takes place. When Israel wins the important thing is to keep the palestinians from rearming. The United States under Barak Hussein has to pressure Egypt to be diligent in enforcing strict border inspections. At the same time the population of Gaza has to live comfortably and feel that life is a blessing without terrorist governments. The morbid tv brainwashing of children has to end and be replaced with healthier alternatives, maybe translations of international programs.
19. Where are the rockets?
Alan Yosef ,   San Mateo, CA, USA   (12.30.08)
20. #7 toys?
Beth ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
Why don't you ask Irit Sheetrit, about the toys Hamas is playing with. Oh yeah, you can't Hamas killed her last night with their so called "toys".
21. THE WORLD PRAYS FOR ISRAELS SUCCESS
Petra ,   USA   (12.30.08)
AND MAY THE G-D OF ISRAEL SPARE ISRAELI LIVES.
22. gaza strip
htfjwahh ,   U.S.A   (12.30.08)
the writer of this article was quite frankly mentally nullified. everything that he said was wrong. the only people getting hurt are civilians and not hamas. If you say that the air force is targeting terrorist supply centers then can you explain to me why one of the first places Israel attacked was a school in Gaza? i think that these attacks are just a pure devilish will that Israel must quench.
23. WOW
dim ,   usa   (12.30.08)
ya. yona is right. you two should become naval commanders for the Israeli air force. that way the world will be a better place and we will all be saved by a bunch of retarded, ignorant, selfish, senseless, hating, inexperienced animals that some may consider human beings.
24. where are the rockets
hs ,   jerusalem   (12.30.08)
it only took a day for us to know where the rockets are. despite all that jingoism from the army. it's the same old bull all over again, a few generals get carried away with all their toys. now they'll talk about "boots on the ground" which only means that we will get sucked into a ground war in gaza, and pools of blood -- both theirs and ours. there is, there must be, a better way...
25. #24 elitist moron
ben Ish   (12.30.08)
"there must be a better way" WELL WHAT IS IT GENIUS? Keep your piehole shut until you have a *better* idea ok? Typical elitist tripe. Pretend that you have some intellectuality which you don't, and then use that fictional intellectuality to presume the moral high ground. (Which you also don't have) Meanwhile, the actual parties involved: - withdrew from Gaza: did not stop rockets. - evicted Israelis from Gaza: did not stop rockets - Complied with UN resolutions: did not stop rockets - Complied with every "peace" agreement: did not stop rockets -ignored attack after attack without responding: did not stop rockets - Complied with demands to release terrorist prisoners: did not stop rockets - Unilateral, unsolicited prisoner releases: did not stop rockets - Providing aid/fuel: did not stop rockets Israel has done more than any nation on earth would have done, in the face of unrelenting hostility, rocket and mortar fire, bombings, suicide bombers, and not to mention Gilad Shalit has not been returned. EXACTLY WHAT IS YOUR "BETTER WAY"???? WHAT HAS ISRAEL NOT DONE? Either come up with one yourself, Einstien, or admit Israel HAS ALREADY DONE everything possible. It is people like you who are responsible for situations getting this far out of hand in the first place. It is illogically expecting peace to happen, illogically expecting irrational people to act rational, and all that does is provide time, space, and resources for them to prepare and attack. People like you are the murderers.
26. #25
lawrence ,   Philadelphia, USA   (12.30.08)
Ben Ish, EXCELLENT POINTS AND SUMMARY. Enough is enough. he time for appeasing is over. Muslims do not want peace the want to rule the world and force their false idology on the rest of us.
27. I thought YNet was a news service, not a satire.
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.30.08)
There is no way possible they can print an article asking "where are the rockets?" at the same time as putting out headlines, unless they have a raging sense of humor. Unless of course even YNet has succumbed to the left wing syndrome of "Who needs reality or facts when you have a marketable agenda?"
28. #9 R.Hitchings Let's be honest, no one looks starved in Gaza
William ,   Israel   (12.31.08)
Especially with reports that Hamas siphoned off food and gas destined to the Gazans for their own minions...even from hospitals. Now that is low.
29. #22 - Htfjwahh - If U have to ask, you'll never know
William ,   Israel   (12.31.08)
"If you say that the air force is targeting terrorist supply centers then can you explain to me why one of the first places Israel attacked was a school in Gaza?" Easy, it's because of the very nature of a terrorist organization. Knowing Israel's hands are tied by Intl law, Hamas hides weapons and labs in hospitals, schools, and cynically uses ambulances as supply trucks. We already caught Arafat doing this. It's nothing new.
30. Rains Of Death.... this is our Response of Israeli IDF Massa
Palestine.my.love ,   Land of Horror   (12.31.08)
thousands of volunteers from the Gaza Strip had also asked to be recruited to the resistance in the past 48 hours so that they could fight against IDF soldiers.
