somehow we have stayed responsible for Gaza's "well-being". I would rather re-occupy Gaza, say pulling out didn't work and we'll stay here until we think we can pull out with no rockets like we did in the west bank. That would kill support for Hamas dead.... Yes people would call us occupiers, complain about violations of "law" and "rights" but whats the difference with now?

If Hamas gets completely decimated, Abbas could be allowed to take over Gaza and then there would be a moderate Palestinian government both in West Bank and Gaza. Then Israel could move on with meaningful peace negotiations with the Abbas government.

I entered Gaza for the first time in my life on the 10th June 1967. The hatred was prevalent in every aspect of life. Ever since then I have also ended every speech with the words Gaza delenda est. Our willingness to overlook instead of showing a strong resolution to solve the problem has brought us to where we are today. Oh that we had amongst us a Cato and a Scipio. Gaza delenda est.

So, in your opinion, what led to the Fall of Rome?
It's more relevent to today than one might assume.

General opinion puts the blame for the downfall on decadence and general corruption. While this had a part to play my own opinion is simply the fact that the Empire grew too big and population growth in the provinces made the whole thing unmanageable both from a fiscal and practical viewpoint. Then again imposing your culture on others does not work. USSR tried to "blend" over 100, look what happened there.
