the Palestinians deserve a place of their own, Israel can no longer deny that, the problem is we left Gaza 2 yrs ago. I wish that they'd do more to better their life, they get enough financial assitance thru the EU. If u were to take a country in Africa receiving as much financial and humanitarian aid as the Palestinians they would be up and running by now. I guess its easier to cry, whine and do nothing, its a mentality thing, why work when u can get handouts, this is the only way of life theyve known for 60 years. I know that innocent Palestinians are being killed and im sad for the loss of life. Would it be alright then to bombard them with rockets for 7 years as they have done us..would that be considered fair? We did nothing for 7 years, they sent rockets and we did not respond..how much of this do u think we can take? If everybody really cared then all the arab brethern would get off their asses and instead of lip service they would do more to help the Palestinians and not incite them to war. War sucks, US soldiers are now in Iraq fighting a war (and godbless them all) even tho the Iraqis are now free of tyranny they are still killing innocent ppl. inc. u.s. soldiers. All the terrorists attacks worldwide what the hell do they have to do with Palestinians? Fundamentalists are attacking muslims left&right, it just doesnt make sense..and the world sits back taking each attack and doing nothing, just like Israel did, until one day they could take it no more. I wish peace was easy to achieve. Most of us want to get on with our lives let them get on with theirs. Its the terrorists who want otherwise.

It is not moral nor logical for 7000 settlers to occupy 40% of a tiny strip of land where 1.3 millions of Palestinian are stacked up in the remaining 60%. True, Hamas could not fire at Ashdod when Israel was occupying Gaza. However, the author does not look at the problem from the right angle. The truth is that any country which borders another one is technically able to launch rockets at its major cities. The questions is not the ability to do it, but rather whether it will actually be done. Take Israel and Egypt, for instance. Egypt has weapons that allows it to hit all cities in Israel. Yet, they will not do it because they have a peace agreement, and generally act as good neighbors. Same for Canada and US, France and Spain, Paraguay and Bolivia. If a country attacks another, the attacked country is in full right to retaliate. This gives legitimity to Israel's operation. Yet, it does not mean that the long term solution is to occupy the other country. Especially in the case of Gaza, that is unreasonnable. The only long-term solution is that Israel and Gaza live as good neighbors. Can that happen when Hamas is in power? Maybe not. They are radicals. But nobody really tried. Israel, out of principles, refused to aknowledge Hamas as the true representants of the Gaza people and to engage in negociations with them. It may have been possible to reach an agreement, but nobody tried. What Israel needs first and foremost is to consider Gaza as an autonomous entity, completely separate from Israel. If Israel does not want to open its border, that's fine. For Rafah, it's a matter to be settled between Egypt and Gaza. But what about the water? Every country who has a maritime border can use it freely. Allowing Gaza the same thing would in effect make then autonomous. It may be just what is needed for a durable peace, similar to what Egypt and Israel, or Jordan and Israel, have. But nobody even tried to negociate that simple and logical idea. The truth is that Israel was never completey disengaged from Gaza because it kept it under siege by de facto denying it the use of its maritime border, which it should not control if they want to consider Gaza as a true and autonomous foreign entity.

1) When Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 did the Arabs declare a state and begin peace talks with Israel to open up borders? No they simply voted in Hamas and continued their only objective...to kill all of the Jews. 2) By calling these Arabs anything but Arabs you have simply not read your history. That history was not recorded by Jews. It is the Gentiles history, check it out and the fact that these Arabs are Philistines...not Palestinians. There never has been a Palestinian...ever.
