31. No No No to a Ceasefire
It will only backfire on us. The world is only interested in the humanitarian needs of Palestinians not Jews. They have always ignored our needs and will continue to do so. No No No to a ceasefire

32. International gaurantees are worthless!!!
Look at southern Lebanon today under international protection.
Hezbollah is reportedly three times as powerful, as well-armed compared to July 2006, all under international auspices.

33. So those conditions that were "not negotiable" actually are
It was only a day or two back that Olmert laid out conditions for a cease fire that were "not negotiable", and later claimed Israel would reject "empty gestures". Well guess what, kids?
Once again, Olmert appears to be buckling. Yesterday's red lines really are sorta' grey. Now Israel is expected to ignore the rockets already on hand, which can be used at any time, and settle for a fig leaf of international monitors and a few engineers? And what about Shalit? I mean, what was the point?
I fear Israel is about to snatch another defeat from the jaws of victory. If Israel accepts the terms as laid out here, Labor and Kadima deserve the drubbing they will get next month.

35. haniyeh, zohar, redwan and musri
Before any truce takes hold, eliminate these blowtorches. Gazans have been volunterring informaiton about hamas operatives and I want to thank them. gas the unnels. The shcool bombing was caused by hamas firing mortars from that location. So hamas is guity of war crimes, idf is completely correct in responding to fire and europe can go screw itself. Gordon Brown of UK is outdoing Tony blair in his despair as if england gives a shit about gazans. Take it easy. this job has to be done as the whole of gaza is a satanic death swamp. Brown, you are either with hamas, hezbollah and al-quaida or us. You choose. If you choose hamas, then I hope you enjoy the shwarma that you will be eating and praying 5 X a day in the new country, the islamic republic of england. Good luck.

Welcome again to the idiotic idea of the socialist multi-cultis who believe in the post-modernist bogie that there are many stories to each event, and that the so-called Palestinian Narrative is legitimate. Another case of Israeli left-wing suicide!!!

39. So what was it all for...?
Starting this war was a mistake.
Israel has suffered. IDF personnel and civilians have been killed. Israel's international reputation is in shreds. Israel's military credibility is in further doubt. Livni and Barak have campaigned themselves out of jobs.
The moderate Palestinians have suffered - Abbas and others look even more weak and powerless.
Gazan civilians have suffered most of all. More than 100 children dead. 100s more losing limbs.
The only people who have gained are Hamas. Their leadership is intact. The Izzedin Al Qassam brigades have been barely scratched. They still have rockets. Their credibility in the eyes of many on the Arab street is - sadly and wrongly - enhanced.
The conclusion to draw is not, as many on this thread will argue, that the war should go on. The last three days show that the IDF cannot actually achieve militarily what they set out to do (unless you are one of the murderous few Israelis who thinks that any amount of civilian casualties is acceptable).
The conclusion has to be that a new way to weaken and isolate Hamas has to be found. The international community has a role to play. It is partly to blame for the last few weeks because it never took Israel's concerns about rockets and smuggling seriously enough.
But Israel has to approach the Palestinian problem in a different way too. It can weaken Hamas by lifting the occupation much more quickly in the peaceful and stable PA-controlled West Bank. It can also weaken Hamas by allowing some form of normality to return to Gaza. (though not the normality of weapons smuggling) The blockade of Gaza only enriched and strengthened Hamas. And it can weaken Hamas by being bolder in what it is willing to offer for a final status deal.
Hamas has no role unless it changes.
I am not naive enough to think that such an approach is guaranteed to work. The international community could mess it up. The PA could easily mess it up. Hamas most of all could mess it up.
But Israel has to give it a go now. This way has comprehensively failed.

40. Opened Borders for Another UNIFIL?
And what happens once the cease fire, and an international force ends up like UNIFIL and the LAF in Lebanon? Okay, so Israel mitigates it's control over it's border with Gaza so what? It will still ahve to inspect the trucks in and out for weapons, guerrillas. That can be done. Would Israel be faced with a worse situation..what about the politics o f a foreign force (who would they be, French, Germans, Russians?).
And what about Hezbollah, aren't they armed to the teeth..with rockets from Syria. What will Iran do with it's nuke program..once successful? I agree that 600 Arab deaths is not a talking point. recall Jordan and Syria killing tens of thousands..and Saddam millions. They all go to Arab heaven as shahids or something to that effect. Israel has already won this round..and will have to weight the benefits and risks. I would not discount a cease fire however.

46. SCREW A CEASE FIRE, DON'T AGREE TO ANYTHING ISRAEL
I UNDERSTAND THE PRESSURES, YOU CAN WITHDRAW WITHOUT SIGNING ANYTHING AND GO BACK IF IN IF THE DON'T STOP, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T AGREE TO ANY CEASE FIRE WITH WEAK AND PATHETIC REGIMES.

|
47. Israel please don't sign anything, withdraw if you must but
don't sign any cease fire that will limit your ability to fight terror in the future. You can withdraw Gaza without any cease fire. Cease fires are for losers, like france and england.

49. Hamas will not end this way!
Hamas is not a group of poeple that israel will kill and that is it!! People who support Hamas are spread all over the world! what about the people inside Gaza now? will they ever forgive israel and decide to live in peace with it?? Hate only brings Hare.. Blood is only wipped by Blood.. I beleive a truce with Hamas is the Best Solution.. Save Israel the embarassment of another failure.

You have made a very good point.I somewhat regret my statement.Let me re-phrase it : Israel can not trust certain people,I think that is a fairer more accurate statement. You sound like a friend.Although now is not the time to criticise Israeli leaders, during war,you hit the nail on the head.

54. #52 It Is Good To Trust But Better Not To
Trust ,says the old chinese proverb.Or to put it another way,I do not trust Tony Blair,Condoleeza Rice,Sarkozy,Gordon Brown nor Barak ,Halutz etc.The difference though is at least Barak and Olmert etc have served Israel one way or another most of their lives. The betrayal of Jews during the Holocaust gives ample reason why Jews should be wary of whom they trust ,sad to say.The best thing about the recent operation in Gaza is the separation of the Wheat from the Chaff: who supports Israel, who does not and those who just can not help their hatred of jews.
