History has demonstrated that military punishment has never broken the spirit of a people or produced peace. It would only inflame hatred of Jews and of Israel, while doing nothing to protect the lives of Israelis. Above all, it would undermine attempts to work with peace-seeking Palestinians for a lasting, just solution.

3. UN willing to violate international law to protect terrorism
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.08.09)
The UN Charter Article 51 prohibites this very type of resolution. Only one nation does not have the right of self-defense yet again.

I bet those communists, criminals and canibals are. Well they can tune in their radios to Frequency Modulation, you know, FM. That's whay I say. Eff Emm. Most usdeless drain on the world since the League of Nations. Waste of time. Waste of money. Waste of lives. But,...profitable. Very profitable.
5. SAVING HAMAS FROM DEFEAT
Marcel ,   Florida   (01.08.09)
The U.S. does the work for the Arab world in rescueing Hamas as they did with Hizbollah in Lebanon. Only 13 days in Gaza for the idf while the U.S. has been in Afghanistan more than seven years. With friends like this Israel is finished unless they can learn to say no..
6. NO TO "IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE!!"
usa   (01.08.09)
By asking for "immediate ceasefire" Rice et al. are essentially aiding and abetting their arch-enemy Iran. Don't fall into that trap, please!
7. security council resolution solution
Bill Staar ,   Chicago USA   (01.08.09)
All of the parties involved need to have a solution imposed on them, they are never going to solve this problem by negotiations. The international community must decide for them, and then send in an international force to impose the solution. I know it doesn't sound good but as a parent sometimes I need to impose my will on my children because they are not capable of resolving differences fairly, so they lash out and hurt each other I love them both it's for their own good that I impose my unchallenging will upon them.
8. Looks like Jews really aren't allowed to defend themselves.
Rod ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.08.09)
...but it's OK if the Russians decide to reduce Chechnya to rubble, isn't it. Or the Chinese the Tibetans... the list goes on.

11. Israel, please allow yourselves to be rocketed.
The 11th Man ,   London   (01.09.09)
If you persist in defending yourselves you're going to bring trouble on us all. Is it too much to ask you that you allow your children to be brought up in an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear, when any day can bring a rocket through the bedroom ceiling or a visit to the cinema end in fire and injury. Really, you're being quite selfish in all this. Just kidding. CHAZAK, ISRAEL!
12. To #1: what history shows
David ,   San Francisco, USA   (01.09.09)
is that no armed conflict, once started, has EVER been resolved with any finality whatsoever until one side was militarily forced to the realization that armed conflict was never going to bring about the achievement of their desired ends; i.e. was forced to surrender. At this point, it's just a matter of deciding which side you'd prefer to have doing the surrendering.
