For the sake of the children    Etgar Keret, Shira Geffen
31. For the sake of the enemy's children, not children of Sderot
All the care about is giving comfort and moral to the enemy. These people ought to be put on trial for treason.

32. Too late ! your knee deep in blood already
It's a bit late to get a conscience now. Havent you heard that youve already taken 300 children from their parents. Some parents youve even taken five off in one shot. Youve taken 100 mothers away from their children and youve also taken 600 men from their families. Nobody gives a damn about your doubts now , you'll habe to live with your deeds.
Sami   (01.12.09)
33. Jack, no you are the one with the faulty logic
let's see if I can help you... 8 years of rockets on our southern cities. 3 years of our soldier Gilad Shalit being held as a prisoner of war weeks of commentary and warning to Hamas letting them know that our patience is running out. and so if you think this through you will see that we have behaved in a moral and correct manner. Hamas is a terrorist organization We are light onto the nations! what's wrong with you haven't you been paying attention?

34. do you really think your article is necessary?
for G-d's sake, do you really think that there is anyone in Israel who wants to wipe out a kindergarten class? you sound like our enemies. you know very well that the IDF does everything possible to avoid the deaths of innocents, but that hamas is putting them in harms way. are you trying to feed more propaganda the the world media that they already come up with on their own? i am disgusted by your self-rightoeus tone.

I CANNOT BELIEVE AN ISRAELI MOTHER THINKING IN THIS WAY UNFORTUNATELY THESE CHILDREN WILL BE THE MEN AND WOMAN WHO WILL COME INTO ISRAEL AND BLOW UP OUR CHILDREN.

37. The ivory tower in Sderot (Rothschild)
No Israeli wants to see Palestinian kids suffer or get injured or killed. For the authors to presume this of the leadership or common citizen is offensive and reeks of an ivory tower mentality. Yaacov Lozowick has an excellent piece on the expensive Israeli investments to prevent Palestinian casualties: http://yaacovlozowick.blogspot.com/2009/01/waging-war-israeli-way.html

38. Dead children
The [ propaganda ? ] news often shows mothers crying in front of their death child . I have some questions . Where was this child ? why was his mother not hurt ? Has a mother not to protect them and to watch them carefully ? Does a loving mother not look for her child to have a safe place ? Or , are those news bulletins only staged ?

39. from a friend across the pond to Sharon
"War and the Dehumanization of the Enemy: Part 1" http://ivaw.org/wintersoldier/testimony In 2005, 6,256 American veterans took their own lives. “You … remove the humanity from them to make it easier to oppress them, to brutalize them, to beat them, and in doing so, you remove the humanity from yourself because you cannot act as a human being and do all of these things.” How incredibly sad that so many end up dying of remorse for having performed acts that so disturb their sense of moral selfhood that they sentence themselves to death. Scott Ewing was an Army scout in Tel Afar from 2005 to 2006. He describes how treatment of civilians became progressively more brutal. “It’s hard for me to believe that the Iraqis who witnessed this could possibly take seriously our version of justice and democracy,” he says. Mike Prysner describes a mission he took part in which his unit forced Iraqis out of half a dozen homes, with no compensation, so the US military could use them. “One family in particular, a woman with two small girls, very elderly man, and two middle-aged men—we dragged them from their houses and threw them onto the street, and arrested the men because they refused to leave.” Since he left, he has been plagued by guilt “anytime I see a mother with her children, like the one who cried hysterically and screamed that we were worse than Saddam as we forced her from her home, …anytime I see a young girl like the one I grabbed by the arm and dragged into the street.” Prysner also describes the physical abuse of a wounded prisoner, with a sandbag over his head and his hands tied behind his back. “We were told we were fighting terrorists; the real terrorist was me, and the real terrorism is this occupation.” Think of not only what the war does to the enemy; but what id does to the soul of a nation; the lives of your soldiers. Sharon, as an American, I have asked the same question about my own country. As my heart ached after 9-11, i went through the cycle of hate and revenge, too, but it has dawned on us all that injustices perpetrated in the name of war on terror must not stand. in the USA justice system the standard of evidence is so high "preponderance of evidence" beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone is guilty of crimes because to lock an innocent man up or accuse him guilty of a crime he did not commit is a thousand times worse than failing to convict a guilty one. it is called injustice. i weep for Israel for they seem to be losing their moral high ground as the US has, too, and i see many dark signs in your society as i have in mine, as have the majority of American people who voted for change. hopefully Israel will make the right choices in this election and set the path straight, as the US has done in Obama's election. The vilification of the "Liberals" or the "Left" on this site is disheartening, to say the least, at least in the USA the Right wingers smear the Left for being un-American, when the truth is that they merely defend HUMAN rights and denounce WHOMEVER shall violate them. As Obama said, "true long term security means upholding our morals and principles as Americans as vigilantly as we pursue our security." The USA looked in the mirror and we said that we are men and women of ideals. we are the good ones and no dirty enemy will take our souls or good name away from us. abide by human decency..give money to aid organizations...and yes...shed a few tears for the innocents in Gaza, IF you still can...

40. speechless
Marty said "the party that starts a war is responsible for any harm that comes to the children on both sides of the conflict not the party defending itself against the naked aggression." This is SO false. That is why wars have RULES of engagement and WHY the world needed the Geneva Convention. Can i believe what i read on this site,..really? such callousness toward human beings...you are BOTH wrong, both sides, and until either of you lose your self-righteous hypocrisy, no work will be done toward peace which starts with love for neighbors and empathy for human beings.
nancy ,   Philadelphia, PA USA   (01.12.09)
41. #34 Misleading oversimplification
Randi, it is NOT true "that the IDF does everything possible to avoid the deaths of innocents." It doesn't. And it shouldn't -- if it is to succeed in this horrible war. The IDF necessarily takes calculated risks. It takes many of them. Some of them don't work out and innocents die. (The innocents have included our own soldiers.) It may be that it is too cautious in the risks it is prepared to take. It may be that it is not cautious enough. Just as it is acceptable to urge it to be less cautious, it is acceptable to urge it to be more cautious. The latter certainly does not manufacture propaganda for the world media. (Do you seriously think they would run short without it?) Further, feelings such as those expressed in the article also support IDF initiatives like setting up one or more field hospitals near the Gaza border, as is now reported to be under active consideration (I am pleased to note (maybe a bit late, but welcome nonetheless).

42. Now you say this ??
After more than 400 children already killed .... how nice people you are .

43. To #23 the moron in Germany
According to FACTS (not somebody's "silly logic") Hamas deliberately targets Israeli children, and sets up their own children for "human shields." Therefore, when any incident occurs that involves the death of Jewish children and civilians and also Gaza children and civilians, the only ones to blame are HAMAS. Silly turd, not even Hitlerjugend were used for human shields by your fellow countrymen during World War II.

47. dear all talkbackers
ok, if children are fair game, then stop crying about ashkelon and sderot and stop looking for everybody elses sympathy. just admit that your "brave" IDF should have licence to target children, play by the same rules as hamas and thus can be equated with them.

where is your PROOF of such rigging of schools with explosives by Hamas? If you say it is insulting of the Americans and the rest of the world to question the morality of the Israeli offensive because you dispute the "facts" that Israel is bombing UN targets then where are YOUR facts? what reputable third party will attest to them. "Facts" from your ministry of war are highly questionable. Finally, your acting as if the citizens of Gaza would like to risk their children, as if they do not care if they are killed, as if it is their fault they die, while Israel's operation is called an "offensive", is HIGHLY insulting.

49. final post, i am just shocked
Charles writes, " The [ propaganda ? ] news often shows mothers crying in front of their death child . I have some questions . Where was this child ? why was his mother not hurt ? 50. ok one more
wow...just reading it..i can't stop., can't believe it... Rivkah wrote: " Not to worry. The children of the world belong to the Lord. When they die, they become part of God's family regardless of the religion or lack of religion of the parents." wow. this makes it all better now, not to worry kiddies, if you get blown up, because the israelis say you will go to heaven, or whatever. such delusion on such scale...needs to be studied by some sociologist..hmm

51. these people need a therapy
reading these comments makes me deeply concerned. who are these people, that are so full of hate? that have no compassion. that always point at the others (the arabs, the world). these people don't have a consience. they dont have a heart. I hope they are a small minority in Israel. Otherwise I dont see a chance for peace. these haters need a therapy

52. Attacking the ghetto you created
First Israel builds a wall - a wall! - around Gaza, then kills so many inside. I'm sure Gazans have been very happy inside those walls. Take Gaza prisoner, then murderously bully its people - very good, Israel, you must be very proud.

Mr. & Mrs. Keret, Where do you live? Shouldn't the children in our country also be able to drink cocoa outside the confines of a shelter? What do you suggest to stop the mortars?

54. For the sake of the children
So it seems that most agree that IDF fights the Palestinians in general. I had the impression, as IDF regurarly states (and I agree with), that the war is against Hamas. OK I can get over it as far as my children are safe (but who knows what the future holds).

56. nancy, your ignorance and bigotry are showing
You write, "where is your PROOF of such rigging of schools with explosives by Hamas?" I'd direct you to idfspokesperson.com where you can see the Video "Hamas Booby Trapped School", but you won't go there because you consider that " "Facts" from your ministry of war". There's your bigotry right there. The IDF is the Israeli DEFENSE Force, and the Ministry is SECURITY. In another posting you write, "That is why wars have RULES of engagement and WHY the world needed the Geneva Convention." Israel subscribes to, and goes beyond, the Geneva Conventions. Hamas neither subscribes to nor observes Geneva. Storing weapons in civilian structures, and utilizing human shields are war crimes. And denying Red Cross access to the Israeli prisoner they hold is a violation of Geneva.

57. #51- I thought the same thing when I first came to ynet
These people here are easily representative of the destroyer of our time... I was naive to think otherwise, but the posts here have clearly proved this paradox. The 900 dead is only one of many dark events to come... Brace yourself for criticism due to your being German Sara, and God Bless you and may He bless the Gazans in this dark hour.
GUH   (01.13.09)
58. #53 Where were you in 2005? In a coma?
Israel removed all of its citizens and "occupation forces" from Gaza, leaving a thriving greenhouse industry for the Gazans to enjoy a produce export business that was built by "Jewish settlers." 8,000 Jews lost their homes in order to give "peace" a chance in Gaza. Instead of building an industry and enjoying prosperity for their citizens, the Gazans promptly launched attacks on Israel. Israel endured the rocket attacks for 3 years. How would you like it if Mexicans constantly bombarded Texas?

59. to Nancy at #50
Please do not take what Rivkah says seriously. She is a crazy religious zealot and posts those kind of comments constantly. In another posting, she was callin for Pres Elect Obama to be asassinated because her torah says so. Unbelievable and dangerous thinking! Nancy, you are 100 % right! the talkbackers here make me loss my faith in humanity and makes it clear why the world thinks the way they do about Israel and Jews (not that i agree or condone anti-semitism). If it were jewish children dying, the tone would be very different. They would demand 100 dead arabs for every one dead jew. They believe their blood is pure, and better than the rest of the world. It is nice to read a posting from another rational human being. Hope to see you post again soon.

but you are Jews, you are supposed to rightous and better than your enemies. How can you say you have the moral highground when you stoop to their level? Please explain! I am neither racist nor prejudice, but do not understand the hate and anger towards children. Do you not teach your children to hate Arabs? How is that different from when they teach their children to hate you? Why is it that any time someone disagrees or voices dissent, they are automatically a racist and anti-semtic. Can't we disagree from a human level and not by race, color or creed? Can't you argue your point withouth name calling and accusations?
