1. I agree: Don't put gun to our head
Steve   (01.14.09)
2. Guarantee?
John ,   Europe   (01.14.09)
You cannot guarantee that you will wake up tomorrow, that's why you say "Modim lah" when you get up! You think that Americans have any guarantees that 9/11 will not happen? Londonians alike? No, you cannot guarantee that you will not face some Jihhad based organization tomorrow, so why think like that? Besides, let's not underestimate Lebanon campaign: Israel got what he wanted, no rockets in the north. Did it happen? Yes. North is quiet. So, what's the fuzz. I wrote pretty good arguments why you cannot destroy Hamas, but dear censor erased it. He does not allow any other opinion here. Israel turning to Israelistan, with Judaism as main religion.
3. Treacherous till the end
Alan ,   SA   (01.14.09)
4. Way to go on Gaza
David Powell ,   Everett, Wa. DPRSSA   (01.14.09)
It's time for Israel to stand up to the prerssure to accept a cease fire. Keep plowing ahead until Hamas is defeated. Please tell president Obama and Secretary Hillary to stick it if they try to get you to lay down your right to defend yourselves.
5. To # 2 What's your point?
Maurice ,   Loa Angeles, USA   (01.14.09)
Judaism is the relagion of Israel so what? It's been this way for 3500 years. Israel can and should destroy Hamas, Hezbollah and the ayatolah regime in Iran for one reason. The destruction of Israel is those groups' main purpose. It's a question of survival.
6. #2 John you are so right!
Edithann ,   USA   (01.14.09)
You are write on amost all your points..there are no guarantees..we will all end the same way in some way or another... But ,Israel turning to Israelistan, with Judaism as main religion is right on point... Oh, and they don't post my comments either.. TATA
7. #2 Rubbish! the US or UK are not on the border with Syria
Dan ,   USA   (01.14.09)
or any other terrorist regime. Israel is not that lucky. It is in the worst neighborhood on this planet surrounded by the likes of Saudi Arabia, Hamastan, Lebanon with its Hezbollah and it must secure its borders.
8. Program Management
Daniel ,   San Jose, CA USA   (01.14.09)
They started this operation only after due fair warning. They drop leaflets over areas 24 hours before they bomb. They have clearly defined goal of what they consider success in this operation and failure is not an option. Everyone is crying for a cease fire except Israel and Hamas. Go figure... They need to take out Hamas leadership, get Galit back and assure that we will never get into this position again. Sorry that a few babies got killed, but Hamas should have thought of that back when they were bombing buses shopping malls, and then firing rockets into a sovereign nation. I think the only definition of success at this point will be to wipe out Hamas entirely. No remnants of this cancer must remain where it could grow back in the future. Just like cancer treatment it could kill the patient but that is the risk Israel is willing to assume in order to have a peaceful future.
9. iranian trojan horse
israeli free thinker   (01.14.09)
i hear an iranian trojan horse is approaching the port of gaza. question is, how can the israeli check the vessel doesn't carry weaponry inside the human aid on board? we know hamas is trained and funded by the iranians. for good publicity's sake, iran shows it now cares for the gazan people. iran wants sympathy from the world, and to keep the support of the gazan people after having trained the hamas to use gazans as a human shield, instead of fighting in the front line, commanders first, or at least not firing at israeli soldiers from within densely populated areas. the leaders did not come out from their hiding even though they know israel is creating damage in trying to find them. after hamas smart booby trapping of a school and a zoo, i wouldn't be surprised if haniya or hayina is hiding underneath hospital shifa. hamas must be crumbling and iran want to be there first.
10. Finish The Job !
Mark ,   San Diego USA   (01.14.09)
In the war with Lebanon Israel let world opinon & the US dectate how the war was fought & accepted a truce that not only made Israel out to be the loser but strengthened all terrorists in the arab world. There is NO WAY in HELL that any country in the middle east including iran can stand up to ISRAELS firepower & might. Israel needs to stand up & ignore any & all world opinion & refuse to be controlled by the US or the anti semetic UN . Finish the job this time. Level Gaza & turn it into a military base.
11. Ask King Abdullah to let the Palestinian will move to Jordan
e.m.Jordan is Palest ,   s.f   (01.14.09)
Soon or late Jordan will be Palestinian State in this case why we are wasting our time, it is up to Jordanian King which he should realize the only solution is Jordan and make it end to this conflict. King Abdullah should not wait for the day the majority Palestinian will take over of his monarchy if he will accept it now he can role in Palestinian State too, The only solution and guarantee is Jordan,
12. Avoid another useless Un 1701 resolution
Michael   (01.14.09)
Unless there is a durable and long lasting ceasefire unlike 1701 which nearly collapsed when Lebanon fired rockets a few days ago , we will be back to square 1. Olmert sort out your differences with Rice. It looks very silly.
13. Peace with the Arabs ?
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.14.09)
A colossal error in Israel policy was the “disengagement” and dismantling of the Gaza settlements in 2005. It was an empty and strategically futile course of action bordering on historic crime. All of the rationales offered by Sharon, Olmert and company were completely rebuffed in the face of the dreadful security reality. In order to justify the policy, various easily refutable reasons were raised. One of those was – “one makes peace with enemies”. Well, they did not make peace with Hitler. They did make peace with enemies that were defeated and changed their ways like Germany and Japan after WWII . Violence, terrorism and lying propaganda are second nature to the PLO and Hamas and they will therefore never be a fitting peace partner. More at : http://xrl.us/kkjaf
14. Israel in control of the Egypt-Gaza border crossing.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.14.09)
Israel should make no concessions to Hamas. The Egypt-Gaza border crossing should be exclusively under the control of Israel. The only second possibility should be the free choice of the inhabitant of Gaza to emigrat to other Arab countries (most of these countries are not very populated and can easily integrate them). The time has come for these people to stop with politics and terrorism and search for a solution for their families based on well-being and peace. That is the real solution as explained at : http://xrl.us/bi5c8
15. Finally I am starting to feel some respect for Olmert.
Asher ,   NY,USA   (01.14.09)
16. Finish the job #36 (this time it's personal)
swordless   (01.14.09)
Let's see how many times Israel has tried to finish the job, 1948, 1967, 1973, 1982 lebanon, 1987 Intifada I, entire 1990s in Lebanon, Intifada II, Lebanon 2006, & Now Gaza 2009..... Imagine if you didn't have God on your side!! Then again, you determine God's will, just like you had it on "pause" for 3000 years.
17. No self inflicted defeat?! What happened to Olmert?
daniel   (01.14.09)
Actually, what happened to Israel? I thought you guys groveled for world approval.
18. #16
(01.14.09)
israeli soldiers are fighting, not g-d, in those years you mentioned. 3700 years jews lived here, and over 1000 years as a nation, whereas palestinians were never a nation anywhere. there are deeply religious jews here, orthodox jews, who claim the zionist country has occupied their territory, because they lived here before the zionist party took control. not to mention the jewish community that was here throughout history, also when arabs invaded. arabs in the west bank expect israel to give them everything, to take care of their finances and supply their resources , their infrastructure and take care of their bills. otherwise they feel they just want to destroy it
19. #5 i agree with you. (end)
ilyse ,   san diego   (01.14.09)
20. in despair, Now white phosphorus bombing populated area
observer   (01.14.09)
the residents of thew bombed house miraculously survived a huge fire. Huge white smoke is still seen. In despair, Israel is breaching all international norms and perpetuating one of the most shameful genocides. Three sisters were shot point blank, two died in front of the eyes of the survived young sister,4y, who sustained a shoot to her spine rendered paralyzed. Al-Aqsa brigades killed 12 soldiers in ambush. On the TV, tap showing a sniper hit of a soldier, but what is most noticed is that at least four were standing in a line side by side, as if making the perfect target. Even during the second shooting, a couple of soldiers were still standing; taking no cover. Is it despair, incompetence, or negligence?
21. If Olmert continues to be firm and combative
Avi ,   Geneva   (01.14.09)
he will redeem himself from past weaknesses and sins, and save Israel from future major problems. Hang in there and take it to its logical conclusion, Mr Olmert. Don't let the sob sisters all around you dissuade you from doing what is right and necessary. Be strong and determinate.
22. To #20
Ze'ev ,   Haifa   (01.14.09)
If you believe the products of Pallywood, I pity you. No soldiers were injured in the "sniper incident". When Hamas has nothing to deliver, they deliver lies.
