31. fainthearted losers.
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (01.16.09)
I'm switching from Livni to Liberman. This government is a useless bunch of faint-hearted chickenshits. Will we ever have a government that matches the quality of our IDF? The world is castigating the "murderous" Israelis. Then when we leave Gaza they will all sigh with relief and laugh at us for surrendering to them so easily. They really got our number. I am so ashamed.
32. MAY IT WORK!
PaulHT ,   Jerusalem,Israel.   (01.16.09)
33. punish them in the election
Asaf Golan, ,   Texas, US   (01.16.09)
punish the left in the election and put in a right wing government to conduct the next war... which will be in what? Two weeks?
34. This is incredibly stupid!
Confused Canadian ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.16.09)
Israel should have finished the job! In two weeks one of the other terrorist groups (not Hamas) will launch a rocket or two. Israel will complain to the international community but claim that it is committed to upholding the truce. A few days later one of the other groups will launch a few more rockets. And again Israel will pledge their commitment to the ceasefire. A week or two later, members of Hamas will fire a few rockets themselves. Hamas will claim that they cannot control the actions of all their members, nor the actions of the other groups and warn Israel against retaliating. And Israel will again emphasize their commitment to the ceasefire. At this point Hamas and the rest of the Palestinians will realize that nothing has changed and that they can continue to fire rockets at will. Israel will hold its fire because they won't want to upset the new Obama administration, and the residents of southern Israel will find that they continue to be subject to Palestinian rocket fire while their government does nothing! Not only did Israel fail to achieve their goal of ensuring that Hamas can no longer launch rockets, they managed to let Hamas gain legitimacy by having a place monitoring the border crossings! For a few days it seemed that the Israeli leadership (no doubt motivated by the upcoming elections) decided to actually act in the country's best interest and protect its citizens, all in a bid to gain popularity. But sadly it seems that they could not overcome their own stupidity long enough to complete the task they set out to achieve. Israel did not ensure the cessation of rocket fire or other terror activities, and there is no mention of the release of Shalit (regardless of what condition he may be in), but somehow Hamas managed to convince Israel to agree to remove the blockade, open the crossings and even give Hamas an official role at the crossings! All Israel got was opening a discussion as to the possibility of stationing international monitors on the border who will not help at all to stop the smuggling. I don't know what else to say....
35. To haredim & coworkers...
oscar ,   buenos aires   (01.16.09)
... dont´t blame Olmert/Barak/Livni any more. They sincerely want to destroy Hamas but, they simply can´t do it. Why don´t you enlist the IDF and make a trial by yourselves?.
36. what we need to do
Yetzhak ,   Keryat Shmona   (01.16.09)
is definitely not withdraw now! we need to detroy all the terrorist and terrorist related infrastructure in Gaza even if it takes wiping out the city! because Israel's security is priority number one
37. I hope Hamas wont fall into this Israeli trap after all sacr
Jim ,   NY   (01.16.09)
38. to24
rafeeka ,   ......   (01.16.09)
amazing .... blood beyond blood
39. Spinning in their graves
Wil ,   USA   (01.16.09)
If this report turns out to be true, the great leaders and heroes of Israel's past victories will be spinning in their graves. With total victory and the SURRENDER of Hamas at hand Olmert is ready to breathe new llife into them. Very sad and will prove disastrous for the State of Israel.
40. If these prove to be the terms, Labor, Kadima will pay price
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.16.09)
These "terms" come from Palestinian sources, so one is right to be skeptical. But if these prove accurate, they are a betrayal of Israel's interests. It was hardly two weeks ago that Olmert laid out terms he claimed were "not negotiable", but there's only the vaguest resemblance with what's outlined here. What is to stop Hamas from resupplying and repositioning during these two weeks when the anti-smuggling regime is not in place? Where is mention of Gilad Shalit? What about those rockets in current stock that Hamas can still fire at any time? If Haniyeh emerges from his bunker claiming victory and Shalit's fate remains an issue for separate discussion, Barak and Livni will, justly, be held responsible.
41. NO TRUCE WITHOUT RETURN OF SHALIT!!!
David ,   Hartford USA   (01.16.09)
No putting it off. If Hamas can't produce a living and healthy Shalit, NO TRUCE. If a single rocket gets fired into Israel, NO TRUCE. Livni is about hand the PM position to Bibi with this stupid move. Rid Gaza of Hamas now! They will never renounce their hate for Israel. This is a huge mistake. G-d Bless the IDF. If they have to retake the places they just cleared due to this 'time-out,' Livni and Barak will have hell to pay.
42. Kadima wouldn't allow ground troops to destroy 600 tunnels
Seth ,   tel aviv israel   (01.16.09)
Kadima and Labor during this whole operation wouldn't allow idf ground troops to destroy the tunnels. Hamas has said they will continue to smuggle in long range rockets. Iran is rushing rockets to hamas now. Instead kadima is leaving the border open again and doing photo ops with egyptians and in washington. Israel is still paying for kadima's victory. Bibi would have secured the border. Kadima wants to restrict the idf and give our security to unifil, eu, and egypt. Egypt makes money off the smuggling. Kadima and Labor also want the EU to take control of the rafah crossing. Hamas uses the open border and tunnels to go back and forth to iran to train and hide leaders like zahar in syria.
43. I would be suprised if it goes 1 week.
Daniel ,   San Jose, CA   (01.16.09)
It is a two week truce. Things can collapse quickly for sure. I feel we waited to long on phase 3. We should already be 3 days into that portion of the operation by now. Also Gilad is not negotiable. Period!
44. ISRAELI LEADERSHIP !.
Orao Straka. ,   Tsarigrad u Srbia.   (01.16.09)
SOMEBODY WILL BE TOPPLED BY THIS. The Israeli Public stands behind this war. bUT some Jerks in the Israeli leadership, delibretly wast the momentum in the military operation, and now also the Initiative. What shall one say ? Orao.
45. Spoiled Opportunity
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (01.16.09)
If this is confirmed, our enemies have just snatched another victory under this governments nose. We really had an opportunity to finish this farce with Hamas. For more please visit: http://israelactnow.blogspot.com/
46. Palestinian sources?
Jeff ,   Chicago   (01.16.09)
Literally a few days ago Livni and Olmert who speak for Israel said the tachlis of the whole Gaza operation has not yet been met and would continue until its goals have been achieved. It is rather sad that an Israeli news site would present as newsworthy a report based entirely on "Palestinian sources" -by Ali Waked no less, in the total absence of any official word from Israeli leaders. The 'sources' expanded the mere possibility of a one-week truce to a done deal, a two week truce and an Israeli withdrawal. One would not be surprised to find the same Palestinian sources later reporting in Ynet news that Israel has agreed to immediately surrender the entire West Bank and Jerusalem to the PA!
47. to 31
suha ,   egypt   (01.16.09)
do not be ashamed my baby . the 80 years old man will not be ashamed but to be dead .... so ashamed is better than dead but he do not only the children to be dead he is kafer and he is my presedent
48. Wrong!!!! Wrong!!!! Wrong!!!!
Jason   (01.16.09)
You don't make agreements with your enemy who is hellbent in destroying you, and you know it. You smash, you pulverise your enemy, BEFORE they (Hamas) get the chance to destroy you. Unless....Unless... (Of-course....) ...It's out of respect for the Inauguration of the New US President , B. Obama, Next Wednsday.... If that's the case, well.....Yes, one should respect such a momentous occasion, and hope that soon, very soon we will get the opportunity to complete the mission. Destroy the enemy. Free the world of one of the most dangerous ever Terrorist Organisations. Bring peace and security to Gaza, Israel and the Middle East.
49. ISRAEL loses HAMAS WAR through CAPITULATION/no SHALIT!
GET REAL ,   USA   (01.16.09)
ISRAEL GOVERNMENT IS A BUNCH OF PATHETIC IDIOTS AND WILL CAUSE THE SELF DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL! In a year HAMAS will be stronger then ever!

52. Deja Vu
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (01.16.09)
Hamas is going to re-arm and become even stronger. For more please visit: http://israelactnow.blogspot.com/
53. Truce Terms
Jordan Glick ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.16.09)
Israel should not agree until Hamas renounces violence, stops the rockets, recognizes Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State (The Muslims have Mecca) and return Shalit.
54. What about Shalit????
Dan ,   USA   (01.16.09)
I give up! Israel should not agree to anything right now. It has the upper hand and Hamas is on the run. Just finish them off and be done with it.
55. Gilad
anonymous ,   US   (01.16.09)
The article said "The question of how soon the crossings will open, as well as when the blockade will be lifted, depends on the response to the conditions expected to be raised by Israel – led by the Gilad Shalit issue." hopefully this will happen. Gilad needs to be one of the main issues in this cease fire!
56. no recogntion-no truce
SF2OAK ,   Oakland, CA   (01.16.09)
hamas must recognize Israel's right to exist. It must be made to act like a state- militia in uniform, no random shelling of civilians. Shalit's release. Real border/arms control not like the feckless pUNy monitors in leb. There shall be no truce/cease fire until the details (I'd like to think the ones above) are agreed to.
57. Kadima giving unifil, eu, egypt control of our security
David ,   tel aviv israel   (01.16.09)
Kadima wants turkish troops on the philadelphia route. Kadima wants eu at the rafah crossing. Livni said years ago we need others to help. Olmert, Livni and Barak did this now so before the election they could give unifil more power. Kadima has caused incredible damage to israel's security in the long run. That 2006 election was a disaster.
58. Kadima and Labor want turkey at the philadelphia route
Jason ,   sderot   (01.16.09)
Kadima wants turkey at the philadelhpia route. Kadima and labor look at this as their last chance before the election to sell out israel. That was the purpose of this operation. Kadima refused to allow idf ground troops to destroy the tunnels and take over the philadelphia route corridor. Kadima thinks unifil, egypt and turkey will stop the tunnels. Kadima trusts unifil even with hezbollah tripling their rocket arsenal and running from hezbollah when they see them. Iran will continue to bring in long range rockets to hamas and islamic jihad. Bibi wants to seal the border. Kadima wants unifil to restrict israel but do nothing to stop the smuggling from iran. Kadima wouildn't allow idf troops to stop the tunnel smuggling because after all they agreed with disengagement in 2005 from the philadelphia route.
59. Barak, Tzipi lose voters, Likud, Lieberman win!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.16.09)
60. TO # 31
FAD EGYPT   (01.16.09)
I AM AMAZED WHY YOU WANNA SWITH FROM A LEFT WING PARTY KADIMA TO A HAWKISH PARTY LIKE LIEBERMAN SO WHY NOT YOU SWITH TO THE LIKUD WHICH CAN BE BETWEEN KADIMA AND LIEBERMAN THE LIKUD IS RIGHT AND BIBI IS RIGHT AND TOUGH ABOUT SECURITY AND WAS RIGHT ABOUT GAZA AND NOW ISRAEL SHOULD HAVE BIBI AT THE HELM BUT NOT LIVNI AT THE HELM AND STRONG LIEBERMAN BECAUSE HE STAYED IN THAT GOVERNMENT AND SUPPORTED IT FOR ONE YEAR BUT IF YOU VOTE FOR LIKUD THIS WILL BRING BIBI AT THE HELM AND LIVNI WILL BE IN THE OPPOSITION OR ANY OTHER MINISTER VOTE LIKUD SHALOM
