Israel plans to complete Gaza pullout before Obama inauguration    Roni Sofer
1. Unbelieveable but true
IDF retreats from Gaza when it was well on the way to defeating Hamas once nd for all, just so HUSSEIN OBAMA can have an easier time of it during his first days as President? Oldmerde, Livni, Barak and the rest of Kadima should be put on trial for treason. Or at least, the IDF must rescue Israel from Committing slow suicide by wresting decision-makiing powers from this clique of traiterous morons. Well, Israel really doesn't matter. The happoness of the Obama/Messiah is more important, isn't it?
mike cato ,   usa   (01.19.09)
2. BIG BIG MISTAKE
Instead of trying to please Obama, the IDF and politicians should safeguard Israeli lives. If the IDF leaves now, hamas will declare victory and use that to recruit naive teens and brainwash children. Whatever happened to the word VICTORY?
alan ,   Texas   (01.19.09)
3. pullout before inauguration
reported as means of''solidifying ties'' with u.s. will do no such thing as it's a show of weakness . i think headline mistates the purpose which is to say once decision to disengage has been taken it's not good to leave idf and israel as targets . instead prepare for next arab self-sabotage -your headline suggests even weaker thinking
elliot ,   usa   (01.19.09)
4. and still we dont have gilad shalit
they got the IDF to stop on account of the obama admin incoming admis. and we got the gate.......and still no word on gilad....wont be long before we have to go back in soon, myguess is
amymarkell   (01.19.09)
5. Sovereign
Is Israel not a sovereign nation? Or, is that assertion becoming a joke? Get Kadima and Labor/Avoda out of the gov't, achshav!!!!!
stevenkarmi ,   Pisa, Italy   (01.19.09)
6. Whoa whoa - what happened to waiting for the calm??
Olmert and Livni, in their BS bravado, claimed the IDF would remain in Gaza until the calm of the cease-fire is ensured. How was that established already? Olmert: "Did you see a rocket in the past 5 minutes?" Barak: "No, not really. I'm in Ashkelon eating lunch. Nothing wrong here" Olmert: "Ah, close enough. Pull out now" The IDF could have atleast used the full week instead of running out in a day, giving the same impression they did when vacating Lebanon in 2000. Nice job, morons!
William ,   Israel   (01.19.09)
7. Israel pullout because of Obama ( future NT Christ ) ?
inauguration? while rockets are still firing into Israel? Who's brilliant idea is this? brain defunct Olmert
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.09)
8. What about GILAD SHALIT?
ben yaacov ,   herzliya   (01.19.09)
9. You are going to cow tow to a pascifist moron in the White
House. You might as well all move to Miami. Because Obama is still trying to figure out which end of the rifle to point at the enemy. As far as loading the weapon......he has an aid to do that, when he isn't manicuring his little digits for a photo op. You know....if the Palestinians complained enough.....Obama would give them California..
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (01.19.09)
10. PM: We will leave Gaza if truce proves stable?
He plans to wait less than 48 hours to declare the "truce stable" with Hamas declaring that they will start it all again in less than a week unless we meet their demands from prior to the war? Get real, this lull is a political move and the fighting will continue before Friday.
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.09)
11. Pullout-Inauguration
What the hell does one have to do with the other? I'm waiting for Hamas to lob 10 rockets for the same reason. I don't get it.
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.19.09)
12. Security more important
Israel's security is more important than the inauguration. The pull out should not be hurried. Doing so will only allow Hamas to rain more rockets on Israel.
Brod ,   USA   (01.19.09)
13. Incredible
Olmert acts like a little kid trying to get his toys put away before daddy gets home. Or maybe he'a afraid of what Hamas might do if he doesn't abide by their order to be out in a week. This guy is one sorry excuse for a leader.
Wil ,   USA   (01.19.09)
14. When was Obama Made Prime Minister of Israel???
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (01.19.09)
15. #1 is so right, a scandalous abandonment of Shalit
There is no respect left for this treacherous troika.
bernard ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (01.19.09)
16. Balance Sheet
1- Hamas never stop firing rockets. 2- Hamas is more popular than ever in the Arab world. 3- Iran will rebuild Hamas military inventory. 4- The Gulf rich arab countries will re build Gaza. 5- Iran now have another base close to Israel.
Wise Man ,   USA   (01.19.09)
17. Israel will withdraw from entire Palestine b4 next President
Voter ,   USA   (01.19.09)
18. Gilad Shalit
We must find a way to bring Gilad home. We cannot leave him there forever.
Yona ,   Israel   (01.19.09)
19. Are we stupid......
1. Grads are still being fired in Israel 2. Gilad is not home 3.MISSION NOT COMPLETED. Time for us to stop bowing to the Americans. ISRAEL FIRST..AMERICA SECOND!
Safta ,   Netivot   (01.19.09)
20. The United Nations and donor countries have been ...
The United Nations and donor countries have been unintentionally complicit. By subsidizing Palestinian schools, health, and welfare, donors removed the accountability upon which good governance depends. Hamas need not make the improvement of Palestinian life a priority when it knows that donors will bail it out. And, because money is fungible, aid furnishes Hamas with resources to expend on arms. Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.09)
21. Israel First-Obama Second
The Israeli government should think about Israel first and the hell with Obama who will push Israel for more concessions no matter what Israel does
Dan ,   USA   (01.19.09)
22. It is Obama who should pull out before the Inauguration.
He should admit he was born in Mombassa, Kenya, as both his grandparents said. He should admit he is an Indonesian citizen as his enrollment records at Occidental College show. He should be disgraced and prosecuted for perjury and fraud.
Rivkah   (01.19.09)
23. Perhaps a clever ploy?...
Perhaps these excuses for leaders are clever enough to have Barry Obama's inauguration "embarrassed" by Hamas's total negation of any cease fire terms. Within a day of his presidency, Zahal are back in GAZA this time with stronger international support. Glass half full?
NJ_Zion ,   New Jersey USA   (01.19.09)
24. pray the Israeli voter punishes the govt
So a quarter of the Country suffered fear of missiles for three weeks (some areas for 8 years) and hundreds of civilians and soldiers suffered deaths and injuries to achieve a memorandum with European leaders. Another defeat for Israel as in Lebanon. And our leaders are bragging!
Y ,   Nitzan, Israel   (01.19.09)
25. ?
When this war started we heard all kinds of arguments about how Israel is facing an existential threat and was forced to fight, and attacking Gaza is so important and justified, and you will force Hamas from power, and you must fight to the bitter end, and on and on. Well, actually, it's not that big a deal; in fact what really matters is getting everyone out by 7 PM GMT on the 20th so you don't ruffle some feathers. Well, OK, but doesn't that mean that the previous excuses about why this operation was so important were a bunch of BS? And if they were a bunch of BS, THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU START THE WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE? You didn't actually have a need to do it, you didn't actually have any concrete goals in mind, it was all posturing and posing. Hamas is still very much alive and well and in charge, the rockets are still coming, the tunnels will get rebuilt (and some probably weren't destroyed). Only difference is, there are 1000+ dead Palestinians, mostly civilians. Someone please explain.
George W ,   Washington DC   (01.19.09)
26. #24 - Who is there to vote for?
Netanyahu failed in the past and was kicked out, and some of us still remember why. Barak failed in the past and was kicked out, and some of us still remember why (leaving Lebanon without an agreement -> 2nd Lebanon war etc) and was the least effective leader in a war on Hamas where almost from day one he either apologized or predicted a cease fire. Livni has no real experience, and each time we have had a war with her as foreign affairs minister she has been sent out to do PR work while the "men" took the spotlight and did the "real work". None of them is suited to run the country, and their parties all have a variation on a theme in terms of what they want for the future, and not that big a variation either. None of the other parties has a chance, and none of the individual candidates has any personal accountability to do what is right rather than what their party head tells them. What Israel needs is to keep fighting Hamas (as we are bound to be doing by the end of the week) until it is crushed and a change in governmental structure that lets us really have new leadership not old failures.
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.09)

Bob   (01.19.09)
30. political retreat will cost perptual GRADs
this retreat shows israel had no intention to stop Hamas, rather it was a political calculation. but kins of those shaheed will never leave Israel in peace till Israel complete kills every palestinians. ALLAH knows better and may ALLAH guide children of Israel.
