1. The attacks were mostly lead by muslims
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.25.09)
the article states correctly . It's NOT specially antisemitism , it's more anti Israel
2. WE HAVE DECIDED TO LIVE >>>REGARDLESS OF !!!
Simha ,   Toronto, CANADA   (01.25.09)
We Jews have decided to live and excel REGARDLESS OF the HATE OF ANTISEMITISM BECAUSE THE OTHER OPTION IS TO LEAVE THIS WORLD BY THE ADMIRATION AND SYMPATHY OF THE ABOVE
3. moslems
Ilana   (01.25.09)
hate Israel.
4. Anti-Zionism and “Peace”.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.25.09)
The Western champions of "peace" have opted to sell Israel and the Jews out to the Jihadists because as anti-Semites, Western "anti-Zionists" fear Jewish power and therefore want us to be weak. So it is that for the past 40 years, European governments and the US State Department have bankrolled anti-Zionist groups in Israel like "Peace Now", "B'tselem" and "Four Mothers". So it is that they have blamed Israel for Palestinian terrorism. And even when Israel succumbs to all their demands for territorial withdrawals, they always manage to demand still more. 5. @1 it is so when they want Jews to be gassed
S.   (01.25.09)
or call for a slaughter of Jews. These were definitely anti-semitic incidents. Not just anti-Israel.
6. Sorry Pard
Gideon Reader   (01.25.09)
No, Charles.(#1) It IS anti-Jewish. But, it emanates from those who are and have always been anti-Jewish(anti-Israel) anyway, and who look for any excuse to display their antipathy publicly. Nothing new here. Fueled by a willing press who feed on visuals of "blood stained" child sized shrouds and flying flags of "self determination", kefiyeh neck cloths and old field jackets; shouted rage and outrage for the accompanying pix to an article that implys the mindless and uncaring devestation of a defenseless population for NO VALID REASON; accepting that premise is de rigeur for the media worldwide. They(the media) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the anti-Jewish/Israel/Zionist auxillaries. The irregulars who fight for the concept of "No Israel". Muslims contra-Zionistas, and those simpatico to their view have been with us and will remain with us. The proper response is to be able to bite back harder and inflict more damage if attacked, regardless of the type of attack. Philosophical, intelectual, of physical. Can I have a Grrrrrrrrr!?
7. #1 Charles. You're way off base.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.25.09)
It IS specifically anti-Semitism - the attacks are not against Israelis but against Jews. Attacking synagogues, religious Jews wearing a kippa, Jewish-owned businesses, is anti-Semitism. The rhetoric of what you want to call ''anti-Israel'' is more & more openly anti-Semitic. Anti-Israel is the new face of anti-Semitism. The rather unsavoury alliance of Leftists with Islamists is at the root of it all.
8. Anti-semitism
Poppy   (01.25.09)
WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD ANTI-SEMITISM AND WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE ANTI-SEMITISM THE MORE WE TAKE NOTICE ABOUT THE ANTI-SEMETIC REMARKS, ETC THE MORE THEY WILL DO IT..... WE HAVE TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS OURS WE NEED TO DEMOSTRATE AS THE MUSLIMS DO,
9. #1 Charles You Are Wrong Again
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (01.25.09)
They are Jew haters pure and simple.
10. JESUSALEN
cristian ,   bs as arg   (01.25.09)
Judge me if i am right or not,if i am saying the truth or not,i think it´s time of being furious against HASHEM as moses was, moses was furious against HASHEM because of his hebrew´s people suffering and moses himself went to mount sinai to show his truly furious to HASHEM,and then the almighty brought moses the law,our souls must truly ask for the final redemption,we suffer so much,we must be furious against HASHEM because we want mashiaj´s revelation now!.
11. Not surprised
not surprised ,   Israel   (01.25.09)
Nothing new- we know and were expecting these reactions! Arabs, pope, all of them - it shows through History.
12. causality
michel ,   france   (01.25.09)
?? No Monsieur, you are absolutely wrong : on the contrary antisemitism and fascism leads to war.
13. Gaza
Brad ,   USA   (01.25.09)
Yeah. That's it. The Gaza operation caused the uptick in Anti-Israel hate. So, all of those rockets raining down on Israeli towns came from where? The Gaza operation was just a slap on the wrist in response to Muslim attacks. The Muslim attacks were the result of the seething Anti-Israel hate which the Muslims are made of.
14. Terry , Lawrence and others , i'm NOT wrong
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.25.09)
Their hate was caused mostly because of our war . For them all Jews are supporting Israel or Israelis . So they attack Israel , indirectly of course , by attacking Jews .
15. Charles,
jack ,   va   (01.25.09)
It is still wrong regardless of the reason given. Jewish people outside of Israel are not responsible for anything Israel does. Only Israel is responsible. The dialogue should not merge anti semitism with criticism of Israel.
16. what's new?
Barney ,   USA   (01.25.09)
As Jews we all know that the hatred of Jews espoused by "radical" Islam is so thoroughly imbedded in the psyche of the Muslims that it won't go away. Don't ask the world for sympathy or support. This can only be dealt with by strength. When the Europeans realize how their society is changing they may wake up and create a backlash against this movement. Until then when I travel for leisure it will be Israel and within the borders of the USA. Have never been to Europe and wanted to see the great culture there but fear it is too late now. Don't want to see it with an Arabic tint.
17. Actually...it just allowed them to express what they were
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (01.25.09)
thinking. Hitlers dream never ended....the Muslims have kept it alive and well.
18. 14#,Charles, you are wrong
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (01.25.09)
My father who is now 85 grew up in Canada during the depression era. He remembers the anti-semitic rallies that were held in Toronto and he remembers the signs that the protesters carried. All of this occured before there was a Jewish state. A few weeks ago my father was walking in downtown Toronto and he witnessed anti-Israel protesters during the Gaza campaign. My father told me that little has changed in 70 years. The same hatred and the same anti-semitic posters(kill the Jews). The only major difference is that 70 years the protesters were German Canadian fascists and now they are Arab Canadian fascists.
19. Missing the point
Ally ,   Washington, DC   (01.25.09)
Unfortunately, it seems you're all a little confused. Anti-semitism may be rising (doubtful, let's see some statistics before we make rash generalizations) but anti-Israel sentiment is not anti-semitism. Standing up for innocent civilians who were and have been targeted by Israeli forces is not anti-semitism. Telling the Israeli government that they can't get away with anything they want to do, that a zionist state is impossible and unjust (no state is homogenous or ever will be), that is not anti-semitism. Palestinians have been forcefully pushed to violence, and logically have fought back. This is not to say that indiscriminate rocket fire is ok. but an aerial bombardment of everything in response borders on genocide. so, i respectfully disagree with you all, anti-semitism is not rising, anti-israel sentiment is rising, and i hope the Israeli government will hold itself accountable, as the US government has done, and change unjust actions.
20. WAKE UP
Stan ,   USA   (01.25.09)
Gaza is an excuse, not the cause, for anti-Semitic activity. Your subtitle is also a lie. I don't know what you'd been reading, but there was anything but a "drop" in anti-Semitism in 2008.
21. Judah , Golan ,
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.25.09)
I also grew up , and lived most of my life begalut . I understand very well two European languages and can read some papers and their talkbacks . The anti mostly don't talk about Jews , but Israelis . Not Jewish crimes , but Israeli ones . Those antis are , as we can see in the pictures , mostly not of European origin . There are , for the reasons i described , of course Jewish places that are attacked , easy to understand , easy to recognise a Synagogue . Your Father was very young during the depression , it was almost 80 years ago . A good memory ! and a nice coincidence , being there just when demos take place . And going to this icecold region for a man of a certain age ?
22. Jack va # 15 , did you read what i wrote ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.25.09)
I'll repeat : for anti Israel people , Israel = Jews , Jews = Israel .
23. #19 Ally,No Innocent People In Gaza
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (01.25.09)
Gazans are either Terrorists or supporters of terror.
24. Ally , Washington
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.25.09)
Standing up for innocent civilians ....you wrote . Yes there were some true innocent civilian victims . But a terrorist who has civil clothes , who throws his weapon away is NOT innocent . Innocent are those children forcibly taken as human shields . Palestinian were forcefully obliged to attack Israel with their quassams ? They could live in peace with us , but they only want to destroy our country . No homogenous country can exist ? There are many , and in our country we have 20 % Arabs ! without segregation !
25. Charles, not a coincidence at all
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (01.25.09)
First of all the depression lasted from 1929 to 1939. My Dad was only 5 in 1929 yet in 1939 (70 not 80 years ago)he was already 15 and a already a professional boxer. He and his brothers had many a street fights with Nazi thugs who tried to keep Jews off of the city beaches. My Dad is like Shimon Peres. He works every day and he walks to work. From my parents condominium to my Dad's office he walks right past the area where the anti-Israel rallies occur. If you knew Toronto then you could understand this. Charles, if you do not want to agree with my viewpoint then thats fine but please do not question the validity of my Dad's life experiences. By the way my Dad also fought at Normandy but maybe you believe this is just a story too?
26. anti semitism
seb ,   new zealand   (01.26.09)
ironic story, given that the word semitic can be applied to the palestinians just as easily as it can be to the people of israel. this situation has become like the chicken and the egg, there will be no peace for israel until they start treating the people of gaza with the respect that all humans deserve, there will be no peace for palestine, until the palestinians recognise that israel has the right to exist - without constant attacks from suicide bombers and rockets. until one party is brave enough to turn its back on violence i dont see it changing... unfortunately, i dont see either the israeli government or hamas being brave enough to do that.
27. The rise of anti-Semitism
ros ,   London, UK   (01.26.09)
Well, actually, Ally. You are the one who's confused. I live in London, UK and I've seen the hatred on the streets and the signs that say 'Jews to the ovens' and 'Death to the Jews'. They don't say 'Death to the Israelis.' Don't tell me that anti--Semitism hasn't increased. You should read the comments on the BBC Have your Say website or the newspapers. Take your head out from the ground and look around you. NO ONE is pushed to violence. Stop making excuses. And look up the meaning of 'genocide'. Oh and why isn't a Zionist state possible? Do you know what that means either? Or are you just parrotting the rest of the lies that you read in your trashy newspapers and tv stations?
28. Judah
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.26.09)
Your Father was a Canadian , aged 20 in 44 , why should i not believe that he landed at one of Normandy's beaches . The posters i have seen that were carried in those marches were almost only against Israel . Some organisers even did'nt allow any purely antisemite shoutings , only anti Israeli . That antisemites were amongst those protestors , yes , certainly . but i repeat : for all those protestors : Israel = Jews , Jews = Israel . No difference for them .
29. That was the plan...
Ezehiel ,   Land of no religion   (01.26.09)
of increasing anti-Israelis sentiment world-wide, so the Israelis society could be united around its government. Wasn't that the goal?
30. Jewish paper antisemitic?
Adam ,   Poland   (01.26.09)
Polish-Jewish newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza" quotes Haaretz's report on Izraeli's rabbis inciting killing in Gaza: http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/Wiadomosci/1,80277,6201934,Rabini_do_zolnierzy_w_Gazie__badzcie_bez_litosci.html Such publication should be vigorously condemned. Why you're waiting?
