so G-D says we will have drought until the temple of YHVH is founded-haggai

5. I would say this applies to us all
Also all residents of places with repeated misfortune should do so, e.g.a yishuv or ... a mitzpeh....

6. religious idiocy strikes again
Thanks to Ynet to bringing to light yet another instance of religious superstition. As more and more religious and secular people read ideas that should have remained in the Middle Ages, maybe the more secular Israel (hopefully the world!!) will become!! AMEN to that!!

9. the secular would enjoy reading 1 kings 18
there was a drought in the days of eliyah when the prophets of baal and the prophets of asherah together numbered 850.

10. the secular would enjoy reading 1 kings 18
Eliyah challenged the prophets of baal 450 and the prophets of the asherah 400 to prove to all of israel that their god was real. the 850 spent most of a day begging their god to send down fire from heaven and burn up a bull set on a pile of wood but no answer came. near the time of the evening sacrifice Eliyah repaired the altar of YHVH put the wood and second bull on it then asked a less than 1 minute prayer to which G-D sent down fire which consumed everything including the rocks.. until this point there had been no rain in israel for at least 3 years but after our people acknowledged that YHVH was G-D then He returned their regular rains starting with a torrential down pour. The name of G-D means He lives forever so The Same One can still bring the rain israel needs now just as He did then after 3 years of none. why would anyone after 5 years of inadequate rains want to prolong waiting to prove that israel's G-D is G-D?

11. Government Of Israel Should Choose.
The Government of Israel (or the Chief Rabbi) should choose an hour at which time every Jew of Israel should glorify the Holy Name of YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord, for at least one week. In the meantime, I would say consume LESS water -- every Israeli should cut down their water usage. Also, along side the river-banks, along side the Kinneret shores (NOT in the Lake !) trees should be planted. Trees roots keeps the water in the soil, trees protects the soil-water from evaporating quickly.

First those "rabbanim" and Rachel appearing , now mezuzoth that will help the rain coming , what's next ? Wake up , we are living in the 21st century , not the dark middle ages .

19. Water crisis
Put all of the ministers in jail. For thousands of years, there has always been a problem of droughts in Israel. Our ministers, however, were just too lazy or too stupid to do anything about it. There should have been reservoirs and desalination plants built years ago. Now they are at a loss? Shame on them! Fire the whole bunch and put in some people that are not corrupt and that know what they are doing.
Joe ,   Israel   (01.28.09)
20. Laughable
Perhaps they should refuse military aid from the west and have the Charedim say prayers instead. Perhaps all the universities and companies that actually *do* things should pull out of Tel Aviv and Haifa, and people should expect Shas and UTJ to pray these things into existence for them. Tefillin are just strips of rags, mezuzot are just scraps of paper. If you want to fix your situation or improve the world, Torah and its followers are the wrong tools. Education, research, technology, and being careful with what resources you have are what you need to cultivate. The early Zionist movement was secular in nature, and they build modern israel not by praying for it but by doing the work and having smart, dedicated people (who were more than a little ruthless, but that's another matter). The only people who will benefit from the mezuzot are religious leeches who will take credit for what's done by the real workers and thinkers.

21. Better idea: fire the directors and MKs
There is one reason for the current water crisis: the total incompetence of the people in charge. The entire managment of Mekorot, Shalom Simhon and Binyamin Ben-Eliezer should all be immediately sacked and replaced with people who will take action. Simohn's ministry still approves the growth of cotton. Ben Eliezer's ministry keeps the price of water the same, despite soaring demand and dwindling supply. Any school kid who learns about supply and demand will know the price has to go up so that demand will go down. Fire them now before they do more damage!

23. Much more efficient is to
stop to water your garden and all the public grass! This would really safe for sure water as well as not to clean you outside floor with so huge quantity of water poured!

24. IT WORKED FOR ME!
So give it a try! Cheaper than anything else, stronger than any other contingency plans. No, it's not Superman, it is HaKadosh Baruch Hu. And whilst you are about it, try not to speak Lashon Hara and be kind to everyone around you, That helps all of us too,. Note the miracles of the past month. In any other country there would have been tens of thousands of deaths.

26. Pray for the Rain
Growing up in an agricultural state one comes to know well what it means when you have to pray for the rain. Even if one was not religious, one still prayed for the rain, even when they didn't know who they were praying to. That is what it is like in an agricultural based economy where your livlihood can depend so much on the rain. So I think this is a good idea to change all the mezuzot . I would also have special prayers. Doing anything to show the L-rd G-d that Israel is still willing to serve Him and love Him with all their heart and soul would be a start to positive changes in Israel..

27. Water crises is exile- reasons for exile are clear in Torah
The drought in the land is explicit in the accounts of Avraham and Yaacov. Ask any competent Rav for the reasons given in the Torah for exile. Start with general injustice in the land - the police and the court system "shotreem ve shofteem". Are there enough police to stop the killing on the highways. Are there enough righteous judges to mete out justice in a timely manner. How long does it take to bring a trial to justice. Is there an atmosphere of "hefker" (lawlessness) in the land. Is there oppression of the poor and the weak. Shmeetah is another reason for exile. If that doesnt work then go and check your mezuzahs
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (01.29.09)
28. Water crisis
Global warming is a result of interference with the laws of nature ,which in turn, aggravates the water crisis.Mezuzah is merely a symbol to remind us to obey the Law which is rooted in the natural world. A thought expressed on a paper is just a thought rather than just a paper.
Debra ,   UK   (01.29.09)
29. Can mezuzot prevent water crisis
No. But it will create work for some people and ratchet up the superstitious patterns of behavior practiced by the religious and their hangers on. It certainly won't hurt.
Eli ,   Israel   (01.30.09)
30. Some very wrong tb's
It are the predecessors of Ben Eliezer who did'nt foresee this problem , who did'nt build desalinisation plants . Agriculture is the biggest user , 55 % [ central bureau of statistics ] Praying and mezuzoth will help : wie a toitem bankes . Not at all .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.31.09)
