There have been colleges for Hareidi women for many years. A good family friend got a degree in Special Ed over 20 years ago at a hareidi college in Jerusalem.

Both of my daughters were graduated from a Haredi seminary in Jerusalem in the late 90s. The school is part of a distance learning program with a College in the US. Both girls have a BS in Computer Science and work in Israel.

Wade ,   NYC USA   (01.27.09)
This is a very positive development. Not only will wives be able to contribute to family income, they will contribute productivity to the Israeli society. Any increase in educational opportunities is positive, but this very practical development is especially favorable. Perhaps it will also motivate the scholarly husbands to get jobs. Im ein kemach, ein Torah!
4. Krispel distorts tradition of work and study
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.27.09)
Rabbi Krispel says "in the haredi sector it is customary that the woman provides for the family, especially furing the first years of marriage when the young husband continues his yeshiva studies." This certainly wasn't the case in Sephardic communities prior to their arrival in Israel. Except for a few community leaders, *every* male was expected to earn a living. One would study in his off hours. In the Syrian community, which I'm most familiar with, no man was supported financially by a working wife. Only in Israel do we see this culture of dependency, because the state enables it.
