3. Article 11 of the Hamas Charter
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.29.09)
The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. Neither a single Arab country nor all Arab countries, neither any king or president, nor all the kings and presidents, neither any organization nor all of them, be they Palestinian or Arab, possess the right to do that. Palestine is an Islamic Waqf land consecrated for Muslim generations until Judgement Day.

7. Fear
Alin ,   Bucharest, Romania   (01.29.09)
Well, on a first sight this declaration could be a sign that Hamas is scared by the Israeli deterrence. On the other hand, the only tactical measure to be sure of that is to strike Gaza daily with such intensity they should be forced to UNCONDITIONALLY surrender.Long live Israel!
8. #1 atilla

12. If Israel and international community can force Hamas...
John ,   Europe   (01.29.09)
And Hamas accepts 1967 borders MINUS JERUSALEM, which stays in Israeli hands as Israel's capital (Nablus can be very good capital of Palestine), its a fair deal. American evangelists still support Israel, but will not support it for much long. Jews in America and Europe are much crippeled by economic crisis and Maddoc affair. Antisemitism is starting to rise, people around the world REFUSED to commemorate Holocaust day, or started to implicate Gaza deaths in it. I agree with Perez and Olmert when they say that West Bank is lost. Besides: if stories of Massiah is true, then we are not GIVING this land away, we are BOROWING it for a small period of time (less then 300 years, what's that towards 1900 that we were not here?), and after that time, Muslims will be more than willing to give it back to us. If the stories are not true and Torah is just a bunch of unconnected memories and stories, then we should be very happy that we got a land based on a bunch of unconnected memories and stories - and not push the lever more, hence we will brake it.
13. Hamas believes that killing Jews is a prerequisite to ...
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.29.09)
Hamas believes that killing Jews is a prerequisite to redemption. The essential problem with Hamas is not the missiles and rockets it showers on Israel, but the core belief that killing Jews is a prerequisite to redemption. Hamas's ongoing attempts to kill Jews, which have led to the current Gaza War, are a symptom of the far deeper problem -- the ideology teaching that Allah demands the extermination of Jews. Israel and the West must create a strategy not only to destroy the terror infrastructures of Hamas, but to ultimately ensure that Jews and the world are safe from this ideology and its consequences. As to what Hamas really want : http://xrl.us/bjurj
14. Hamas+Fatah prefer omitting Pal right of return position
Sam ,   Canada   (01.29.09)
Hamas and Fatah like playing games with the Western media. They will proclaim their acceptance of the 1967 borders but omit their demand for an unlimited return of 5 million Palestinian refugees into Israel which amounts to the destruction of Israel. Without a clarification of the Hamas and Fatah positions on refugees their declarations are rubbish. It's not serious until they stop trying to change Israel's Jewish-majority demography.
15. TAQQIAH!

16. HYPOCRACY !!!.
Orao Stranka. ,   Tsarigrad u Srbia.   (01.29.09)
"We accept a state in the '67 borders," said Hamad. "We are not talking about the destruction of Israel." They could have done this 1949 - 1967., but did not. This is only tactiks, there is no turning back, there is only the future. Orao.
17. To #14
Yucef ,   Canada   (01.29.09)
Some of that land belongs to them anyways, period. There would never have been a Jewish demographic majority if the Palestinians weren't forced to leave (hence the term REFUGEES) you imbecile.
18. Starting to shake
The Phone Guy   (01.29.09)
For some in Hamas, may their bones explode, to even suggest accepting Israel takes a lot of guts. In the past, the very suggestion would have gotten them killed or kneecapped, at best. For some to speak now - even if disingenous - means that there is a huge rift in Hamas. Forget about their claiming to have won the war - every person in Gaza knows the lie - but to 'accept' Israel is to acknowledge the unsustainablity of the Hamas Charter. It won't matter, by the way. The Hamas-Hamas civil strife will make it all moot.
19. empty words from the PLO and now Hamas too?
Asaf Golan ,   Sugar Land   (01.29.09)
so we should be goodie two shoes dead sheep because part of Hamas and part of the PLO are willing to pretend they accept us while the other part of the PLO and Hamas and Islamic Jihad continue to murder us along with the first part that only pretends to accept us... we've been through this movie before. Its sucks. No thanks. And I don't care how much Eurotrash likes it.
20. #14Then you agree Pals trying to BS everyone ,idiot
Sam ,   Canada   (01.29.09)
21. Just lies for the Western suckers.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.29.09)
The EU is just itching to recognize Hamas - Solana that slippery, slimy appeaser will jump on this - they could care less about reality, this is exactly what they did with the PLO, then ignored all the terrorism from Arafat. There is no such thing as a ''moderate'' terrorist.
22. John, you are being snowed
Binyamin ,   New York, NY   (01.29.09)
From time to time Hamas states it would be willing to accept a state within 1967 borders. By using that specific formulation, they are trying to avoid recognizing Israel. Their position still allows them to receive one Palestinian state within 1967 borders while fighting for a second Palestinian state on the other side of the 1967 borders. Now John, if you really believe this is a peace offer, then why would Hamas not just say "We are prepared to recognize Israel"? The words cost them nothing. So what's your explanation?
23. They are liars
Sammy ,   Tel Aviv   (01.29.09)
Liars! Liars! Liars! Read the Hamas covenant, sometimes called the Hamas charter, you can find it anywhere on the Web, it specially calls for the destruction of the State of Israel, and until they change it, they are lying, lying, lying.
24. Atilla, please go back to taking your meds

25. What is "Sacred" about the 1967 Borders?
Daniel ,   Washington DC   (01.29.09)
Arabs in 1945 in the area that is today Israel Gaza and the Territories were all under British rule as part of the Mandate. This Mandate was established after WWI at the break up of the Ottoman Empire. Prior to WWII the British had declared that all of the Mandate should be a Jewish State. This was not altruism, it was actually anti-Jewish feeling. The thought was if there was a Jewish State then Europe could divest themselves of Jews. Trans-Jordan was then created to accommodate the local Arab population (Palestinians were both Arabs and Jews at that time) and appease the Hashemite family, a strong British Allie. After WWII the UN had declared Israel a State and left places which were predominantly Arab populations under Arab rule. The Arabs did not accept this. In fact all neighboring states crossed the new Israeli borders. And Arabs within the new State of Israel often fled abandoning their homes, under the assumption that Israel would cease to exist shortly. When the shooting stopped there were no borders there were green lines. In 1967 after yet another defensive war that Israel won, Israel captured territory that had been intended for it under the 1948 declaration, and it reunited Jerusalem which in 1948 was intended to be an International City. Jordan attacked Jerusalem in 1948. Israel chose to attempt to liberate it. The green line at the end of that conflict divided the city. Why would anyone expect Israel to return to those green lines? Terror attacks by Arabs is not a reason. It is more a reason to maintain the current borders and positions. It may even cause people to think of conquering more land and evicting those responsible for terror. (read: capture Gaza evict all within) This would not be ideal. Ideal would be an independent Palestinian State comprised of Gaza and the current demarcated Territories. Asking for more is asking for trouble. Hamas doesn't just want more, it wants Israel's destruction This is not acceptable.
26. Hamas recognizes Israel's ability to utterly destroy theim
Rob ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.29.09)
Hamas can claim victory, yet at the same time appeal to the international community for the utter destruction Israel inflicted on Gaza and Hamas' infrastructure. Perhaps more moderate members of Hamas recognize that perpetual conflict with Israel will ultimately only lead to the never-ending rebuilding of Gaza and of fearing for their lives from assassination air strikes. Israel did the right thing by decimating so much of Hamas' capabilities. Now Gazans can see that it was their choice of electing Hamas that brought such devastation. Israel had the right to do what they did, and still have the right to do it again. So long as the IDF maintains its harsh response to ongoing violations of the ceasefire, Hamas will cower with fear and maybe, just maybe, be willing to step in to the real world where revolutions can happen peacefully and without resorting to indiscriminate rocket fire. God Bless Israel and may God continue to bring justice to her enemies until the Lord returns again soon.
27. I allow that I may be wrong, Binyamin, NY...
John ,   Europe   (01.29.09)
But I don't recall a single case where Hamas actually said something like this: "We accept a state in the '67 borders," said Hamad. "We are not talking about the destruction of Israel." Of course, in the matter of negotiations, it would be only natural for Israel and the intern. community to enclose "We, the Hamas, recognize existance of jewish state of Israel in borders of 1967. excluded Eastern Jerusalem and parts of West Bank, but included southern settlements and parts of south. We, with this act, renounce article 4 of our Charter and declare from this day forward this article and all subsequental philosophy null. We proclame this with Holy Kur'an in our hears, and if we lie, we recognise that Allah is not the god and that there are other gods beside Allah and that Muhhamed is not a prophet." IF FACED WITH THIS, or similar formulation, in public with other muslims to watch, then MAYBE, just maybe... You see, as we have pikuah nefesh rule that we cannot renounce G-d no matter what, they also have taqiyya, BUT LIMITED on renouncing prophet and Allah! Also, do not forget that taqiyya is SHIITE rule, and that sunni are not permited to use it. Not to mention that there is 5 rules of using it, published and proclamed by Sistani.
28. Hamas: a willingness to negotiate
DT ,   TA Isr   (01.29.09)
Only by deception ! If you had any sense you should be worrying about your destruction ! Times are a changing and the worse for you.
29. #17 Sorry to say, but your the imbecile
Slice ,   US   (01.29.09)
First of all, much of the land your talking about was purchased legally by Isreal, who then turned these areas from nothing into thriving areas. Secondly, Israel during the fight for independance, did not force the Palis from Israel, most left on their own accord. There are many areas in Israel, where the Arab residence have been there before and after the war. Isreal did not force them to leave, but go to any Arab country and they constantly force, abuse and treat as secondary civilians, those who are not Muslim. I also like how you use the term "Refugees", how many other groups in the world who have had the same done to them, stay in Refugee camps for 60+ years. None, except for those Arab minorities in the African and Asian countries where they commit more genocide than any other group in the world. Also, read the true difinaition of a refugee; the Palis dont fall into the definition. The Arabs had to modify the true defintion so they could add the Palis to it. The only reason the Palis still live in Refugee camps, is because the rest of the Arab world doesnt want them to come to their countries, they want them to live like they do so they can cry about the poor Palis, then do nothing to help them except to give them weapons. I could go on and on, but what is the point, you are oblivious to what is truely happening, you stupid kanuck.
30. Losers, Liars,Cowards & Criminals.

So they want to be recognised as part of the International Community while still holding Gilad Shalit and demanding 'payment' for him? THEY SHOULD BE RECOGNISED AS CRIMINALS!
