1. Alternate headlines.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.09.09)
''Israel Surrenders to Hamas" ''Turning Victory Into Defeat'' ''Diplomatic Victory for Hamas'' Read the analysis in DebkaFile this morning - how our trio of losers has turned a relative military success into a diplomatic defeat. The details will turn your stomach.
2. GOOD NEWS FOR BOTH SIDES

GOOD NEWS FOR BOTH SIDES
3. Treaties and agreements are written on sand.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (02.09.09)
The lull in Gaza, like the Oslo Accords with Mr Arafat, are a fiction, but the Israeli government doesn't understand that yet, and neither does the world. There will never be a "good" time for fighting Hamas. To day, the ability of Hamas to inflict casualties is small. If we want to eliminate Hamas, now is the time to do it. Six months ago was much better. As to Hamas grip on Gaza consult : http://xrl.us/oxtnj

a purely selfish political move by kadoma and olmert and livni and barak who want to survive to lead the country into disaster again. kadima wants to win the election on the backs of israel's security. they are desperate to win and assume that if olmert is successful in releasing shalit before he is outsted, the israelis will vote for kadima again. kadima doesn't give a damn about shalit. they do give a damn about surviving for another term and continuing to destroy israel's future and security. also, i am convinced that this operation in gaza was done for intelligence accumulation reasons as well. i hope to god, this sly move by kadima doesn't change israelis voting them out of government.
5. Whatver, just more B.S. to make a smuggling trip
Historical Observer ,   USA   (02.09.09)
If i had a nickel for every time palestinians claimed they wanted a truce, well I wouldn't be rich but I'd have a nice bag of nickels... Shalit won't be returned, they can't be trusted. It's all a ploy to get more money and time to re-arm the strip. I'm sure the demands will be ridiculous from Hamas, why waste time writing this fable?
6. Sickening, Terry,
Juan ,   Spain   (02.09.09)
I read the Debka report. Sickening indeed. It is obvious that Kadima are doing a last ditch effort to save their skins. Bibi will not stick to any accord that Kadima make.
7. #4 & #6 - To put it crudely .....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.09.09)
This gov't. has the morals of a 20 shekel prostitute.

what deal we need to broker to get one soldier back, ANY PRICE?????
10. Election Ploy!!! Don't fall for it.
Israeli ,   Israel   (02.09.09)
How nice, a day before elections Tzippi rounded up for us world peace and Gilad Shalit. Your not gonna fool me. Your next step is to surrender a big chunk of Israel and follow in the prover wrong ways of giving land for peace. Livni, go and an Indian about land for peace. Better yet ask the thousands of still wandering families from gush Katif. Best yet ask my friend who had his son beaten to death if its a good idea to keep arming our enemys.
11. #1-thought this while regarding the vague headlines
Ypip ,   Canada   (02.09.09)
and announcements concerning hamas, Cairo, and Kadima. As Dfile points out: "Hamas has offered nothing in return except for an oral undertaking to Egypt to try and keep the level of missile fire down." The 6th point of this article is what Israelis need to adhere to and address the candidates especially before the election. Ultimately, this cycle of wheeling and dealing with hamas needs to be broken once-in-for-all. The 'offer' should be that Shalit be returned alive asap. There is no deal.
12. WHATEVER!
Talula ,   Israel   (02.09.09)
Gilad Shalit MUST be returned home. After that, we can play with new rules. Once he is home where he belongs. We caught the scumbags once, we can do it again. Borders can always be closed and our air force have not been sent into retirement.
13. Hard nose Terry from Eilat is spewing again
israel   (02.09.09)
You may not care too much about the return of our soldier - you don't have sons in the army - all you care about is a blood thirsty tirade - you make me sick.
14. But how will you vote?
chava ,   yerushalayim   (02.09.09)
A lot of the talkbackers are saying that Kadimah and Livni are not to be trusted. Let's see how you vote tomorrow! (Ichud Leumi is strongly against a "Palestinian" state. Kadimah is advocating such a state within spitting distance of our population centers. )
15. #13 ??? (I'm sure nobody else understands you either)
Nudnik   (02.09.09)
16. And elections are tomorrow. How conveeeeeeenient!
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.09.09)
One never knows how to evaluate such reports stemming from Arab sources. How many times over the last year has a deal been "imminent"? But Israeli sources have been dropping hints too, talking about "new realities" and such. That the chatter is accelerating just before Israel's elections as Labor and Kadima are bleeding support suggests they want to "lock in" the bump they got from Cast Lead. They perhaps believe can weather the storm that will follow when people realize how bad a deal they are making. To anonymous poster #13: I is your presumption and moral arrogance that is sickening. We all care about the return of "our soldier". But I suspect Shalit himself, if given the choice, would not want to see Hamas strengthened, more Israelis die, and more soldiers put at risk of kidnapping only to have his freedom. There's nothing blood thirsty about insisting on a righteous deal that doesn't put Israel at greater risk.
17. #15 I understand - and #13 is right
(02.09.09)
18. DEMAND GILAD'S RELEASE
AVRUM ,   CANADA   (02.13.09)
JEWISH STATE SHOULD BE DEMANDING THE RELEASE OF Gilad Shalit NOT THINKING ABOUT IT OR HOPING FOR HAMAS TO SHOW GOODWILL. ISRAEL WILL HAVE TO HIT HAMAS AGAIN SOON AND I WISH THAT ALL THE ANTI-SEMITES, AND THE ANTI-ISRAEL PEOPLE WITH THEIR SICK RASCIST COMMENTS BE STRUCK DOWN AS WELL.
