1. Go into opposition
Amos ,   USA   (02.13.09)
Let the right-wingers have their government, and see how the rest of the world, including the US, will start treating the state the way they used to treat South Africa.
2. Kadima
Jeremy ,   hula valley kibbutz   (02.13.09)
I hope Kadima doesn't go into the opposition, but if they do, I hope they will be the Loyal opposition, and not just try to bring the government down every other Tuesday. Tzipi is a good leader and should be given a chance but if going into the opposition is what it takes then the party might just come out stronger in the long run, as long as the party members don't jump ship and stab each other in the back
3. Kadimah and Israel Beiteinu MUST go into opposition!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.13.09)
Then we will have a very effective opposition to keep Bibi's ego and Shas' extortion in check! We need government by the people, for the people, of the people. Not government by the Rav Ovadia, for the Rav Ovadia and not by Shas!
4. # 3
Amos ,   USA   (02.13.09)
There won't be a Netanyahoo government if both Kadima and YB are in opposition.
5. To #4: Yep - shows you how weak Netanyahu's Likud really is!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.13.09)
The fact is that the whole electoral systems is a complete screw up! We need a strong government leaning to the right but which can get on with the new US Administration, Even if Netanyahu does form a government without Livni it will either be in total conflict with Obama's policies of appeasement or he will give in to Obama and he will loose the support of Lieberman and the other religious groups. Shas will then make more demands and we will have another general election in 6 to 9 months time max and waste another NIS200 million! Some say change the electoral setup. The small rightist parties, who Netanyahu depends on, and Shas will never allow this and it will be very costly as you cannot divide Israel into 120 constituencies. If that happened the Galilee with its overall Arab majority would be under Arab control. So you would have to greatly increase the size of the Knesset, maybe even double the amount of MK's and what will that cost the taxpayer in a recession? The only way out of the mess we are in is to raise the voting threshold to at least 8% to 10%. Again, the small parties will loose but it just might be the right way out. The fact is that in spite of Netanyahu's crowing that Likud won the election, it DID NOT. There is no real winner except for an unmanageable block of extreme right wingers controlled by a group of religious fanatics who still live in the past and are too blind to look to the future! The best answer at present is for Netanyahu to to put his ego to one side, join Livni and form a government with Kadimah, Likud and Israel Beiteinu and tell the rest to get lost. The PMship could be negotiated. It all depends what is more important; the country or the ego? Technically Kadimah won!
