WTA, players rally behind Shahar Peer     Sa'ar Haas
1. Double standard, no one boycotted anti-semtic country
This is clearly a double standard. Imagine if this player was denied entry due to skin color. Would the US team have still participated if a player who was black was refused entry? Of course not. A threat about next year is just a fig leaf. The sports players buckled and accepted an anti-semitic decree--and even the JPost reporter did not report the truth, but presented it in a rose-colored fashion.
Sam ,   NY   (02.16.09)
2. good job UAE
END THE OCCUPATION NOW!!!!!
hakim ,   usa   (02.16.09)
3. Gracious response of Peer and the WTA in the face of...
arab bigotry and intimidation, which of course is the rule not the exception. That's why it makes me laugh when they call Israel, where arabs have more freedom and opportunity than in any other country on the face of the earth, racist. F'in loosers.
andy ,   ramat hasharon   (02.16.09)

is that the economy of Dubai is going down the drain.
(02.16.09)
8. Can she sue these imbeciles?
They leave the decision to ban the visa right until the last minute - to reduce likelihood of the event being canceled.- so they they still get to have their 'tournament'.
Australian Guy   (02.16.09)
9. Dubai sucks
Donald Trump is once again bankrupt. Dubai is next.
Angry Arab ,   Arabia   (02.16.09)
10. WTA: No dessert to UAE...next year? Pathetic!
Ariel ,   Europe   (02.16.09)
11. this is a disgrace to sport
and there I was thinking Dubai was one of the more liberal countries, well lets hope the WTA does take this into consideration for further tournaments and will hold them in countries that accept sportspeople and not from where they come from. Shahar you do your country proud.
meg ,   Israel   (02.16.09)

13. #2 Good Job UAE
Tennis is a sport. Politics have no place in sports. As we have all come to expect, the Arabs made an idiotic decision and come out looking like the fools on this one.
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (02.16.09)

22. she wasnt gonna win anyway
david ,   Jordan   (02.16.09)
23. UAE ban
In the 1960's, South Africa was banned from the Olympics, rugby and cricket tournaments because of its racist apartheid policies. Israel has cloned the policies of the then pariah regime and this is the result. I feel sorry for Ms Peer - it's not her fault. It is that of the government she no doubt elected.
Iamashamed ,   UK   (02.16.09)
24. Bravo Hakim #2
And how about if you get kicked the hell out of the USA because of your ties to terrorism due to your Arabic name??? You are just as dumb as dumb as the rest of the Arab world!!!
Natan   (02.16.09)
25. #15 really???
What the hell does tennis have to do with politics???Can you imagine if an Arab\Muslim player denied entry to a sports event in the US because of his origin???? How many demonstrations will Muslims hold?? How many "death to USA and Israel will we hear???
Natan   (02.16.09)
26. Cancel Dubai's Charter for the games until they play fair
UAE nothing but oily bastards!!
usa   (02.16.09)
27. To #5 the Palestinian
We'll my cousin, I'm Israeli and believe me I want nothing more than all of you guys to leave the country :P one a one way ticket, (and I voted for the party to do that.) To bad nobody wants you. And if you're as under privileged as you say, how come you have sports teams??? I though Tennis is a rich persons sport.
Zionist Israeli Nick ,   Jerusalem   (02.16.09)
28. Poetic Justice: All athletes should give their winnings to
Shachar and to Israel Tennis Federatio to help Tennis in Israel. The WTA should make a special exception so that Shachar does NOT lose her points.
meir elazar   (02.16.09)
29. South Africa was boycotted
during the apartheid regime. Israel would fall into that class of rogue state, so I cant see the problem. In fact Israel should be boycotted by more then just sporting activities. Maybe the Eurovision and the European Football championship... What is is with that anyway, How the hell are you guys allowed to compete in those events. Do you consider yourself Europeans... Turkey has a better case then you nuts.
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (02.16.09)
30. #2 I think your head is occupied
