Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (02.19.09)
supplies should be allowed in, no concrete for rebuilding, no spare parts for anything, just food. If Shait is a captive so must they be "captives" to the will of Israel. They will tire of hamass making their lives miserable.
5. What the hell?
Ak ,   Great Middle East   (02.19.09)
And is there any lull right now? or during the previous six months "Tahdeya"? Right now there are rockets fired on the south ... And the IAF can take care of that ..... You fire, we bomb .. Cat-Mouse thing ... The opening of the crossings, should be the reward that Hamas get if they bring Shalit alive. No shalit / No Crossings .... A five years old kid get that. Shaw
6. 'Shalit breakthrough not in cards'
ISSY DYKMAN ,   ISRAEL   (02.19.09)
If Israel had made this demand as part of a truce and a condition of withdrawal while fighting in Gaza we would have got Gilad back through Cairo without having to free any prisoners. Now stand fast and don't back down, Bring Gilad Shalit back home.
7. Usual ploy to beat down the Jews
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.19.09)
Why is it that every demand we make "complicates matters"? It's really simple, Hamas started hostilities, Hamas lost, now do what we say or suffer. BTW "complicates matters" Anybody see the UN (united nazis) comment on the fact the Shalit has had no Red Cross visits? Why doesn't that "complicate matter" How about the continuing attacks on the South? Besides, if Egypt wants to open the border to their Muslim "brothers" can't they? Wake up Yidden--it's the old antisemitism, nothing more!
8. Israel has the very higher hand and Hamas and Eygpt know
Asher ,   NY,USA   (02.19.09)
that well. The looser ahs to pay and in this war Isreal is the winner. Shalit is not a criminal and has not the blood of any palastinians on his hands and Hamas expects Israel free the most visious criminals with so much blood on their hand. Does Eygpt release Muslim Brotherhoods who are so many of them in jails? Hamas dose not have any other choice than releasing Gilat Shalit or goes down with Iran.
9. Let the bombing begin...unless Shalit is released.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (02.19.09)
10. Hamas can't produce Shallit
Brod ,   USA   (02.19.09)
They can't produce Shallit because they must have already slaughtered him. The thugs are butchers.
11. Another 4 long years in the dark for Shalit.
2nd observer ,   worldwide   (02.19.09)
you can not free him (rambo style) or trade him (prisoners exchange) so at least for now send a female solder to join him so he can start a family.
12. If the war had finished there would be no swap
Bernard Ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (02.19.09)
the vacilating incompetent left again took a cease fire instead of liquidating hamas. there would have been no negotiations for prisoner swaps. Israels relations with its soldiers and citizens is more important than egypt and the cynical appeasing negotiatiors.
13. Liberating kidnapped Israeli soldiers.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (02.19.09)
When Israel makes exchanges that are unequal, it is only natural for Israel’s enemies to view the illegal kidnapping of Israeli civilians and soldiers, and the violation of their legal rights in captivity, as an extremely profitable activity. Furthermore, because Israel eschews the death penalty, Israel keeps terrorists alive in Israeli custody and thereby inadvertently creates a “bait” situation where terrorist groups attempt to free their men by ransoming newly-kidnapped Israelis. 14. RELEASE of SHALIT !!!.
POrao Stranka. ,   Tsaridrad u Srbia.   (02.19.09)
Israel's decision to tie opening of crossings to Gilad Shalit's release complicates matters, No it does not. It is wery simple - Hamas take Shalit as hostage, Israel take the whole population of the Gaza strip hostage, the freedom of both is for Hamas to decide. No humanitarian aide should be released into the strip, so the civilian population and Hamas could sort the matter of Releasing Shalit out between themselves. Orao.
15. Palestinians and Israelis have become one people
Palestinian ,   USA   (02.19.09)
Its too late to seperate us. Face it, you know it. Stop saying something else. The Israeli Arabs form a huge minority. The west bank is in Israel. Gaza people have been hurt by Israel so much they are bonded to you now forever, for good or bad. We have just become one people. We are just too stuck with each other. not just movements, food, music, everything is converging.... its amazing. All this war and all this hatred has somehow managed to mix us together. Its in our pysch, even if we go to another country we look for each other, and we eat at each other restaurants and we read each others newspapers, and listen to each other music, and we speak your language and you speak ours. Its too late to have two states, its really too late. The Athenians and Spartans at the end became one people after many decades of wars. Its like that. Palestinians are now more Jewish that Arab. And Jew are now more Arab than European. Its over.
16. Since when?
dabosshog ,   jewland   (02.19.09)
Why is hamas being placed in the position to even have a say. It is very clear. Shalit or status quo. Either we stand strong or we fall weak. At the very least a proof of life is mandatory. These barbarians have no credibity to negociate later. Now or Never.
17. israel musn't back down now
vashDi ,   israel   (02.19.09)
G-d bless Gilad, he will come home alive, and then we can blow the bastards into orbit
18. Shalit's release complicates matters?
Hans ,   Germany   (02.19.09)
What is not complicate with Hamas? But in this matter, brought to the world by the media, Hamas can only lose and they know it. Israel keep going and bring Shalit back. Am Israel chai!
19. Do we even know for sure he is alive?
EY ,   Haifa   (02.19.09)
