1. Disgusted by the mayor
Allan Gold ,   Ramat Ilan, Israel   (03.06.09)
I am disgusted by the mayor and his staff, what kind of morals do these so called "people" have. Two people want to rent an apartment and are former members of the SLA and they are treated like this, it is a scandal and he should be forced out of office for his behaviour. If the couple ever read this, i would be happy, in fact honored to have them as my neighbours and do not be put off by the behaviour of this person, he is a sick man and should be forced out of office for this behaviour. I hope you find an apartment in a decent town, and have the life you want to lead. Good luck in the future. Allan
2. Since when
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (03.06.09)
Since when do you ask your neighbours permission to rent an appartment ?
3. No to discrimination!
Reluctant Hawk ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.06.09)
Where are the courts??? The mayor should be put on trial!
4. What ugly, crass elitism.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (03.06.09)
Mr. Naaman not only turned away a *legal* refugee couple who don't live on handouts at all, he added insult to injury when he turned away people who fought and died by our side in Lebanon.
5. racist pigs
(03.06.09)
for a people who were discriminated against, over and over, the jews should know better, fire that ignorant moron they call mayor or discommunicate shlomi...
6. I am personally outraged! SLA are our allies!
Me ,   planet Earth   (03.06.09)
SLA are our wartime allies! How dare this person endanger our relations with people who fought together with us. And discrimination like this is unacceptable. Anyone who lives in Israel and respects Jewish Law MUST have equal rights. This mayor treats people the way Jews were treated in antisemitic countries. This is disgusting! I am Jewish, and I would not mind living next to Lebanese Maronites, Druzes, Sudanese, Ethiopians or any other human beings. This does not apply to antisemites.
7. Poland
David ,   Yerushalayim   (03.06.09)
So Gabbi, it was not immoral for the pre-WWII Poles to force the local Jews to live in Ghettos. As an Israeli, you embarrass me. Please convert to Iranian.
8. Discrimination in the North
Helen ,   Maalot, Israel   (03.06.09)
Absolutely outrageous. The SLA families that I know here in Maalot are exemplary citizens and human beings. I'd rather have THEM for neighbors than some Jewish Israelis I wish I did not know.
9. It is a digrace and shame on Shlomi
meg ,   Israel   (03.06.09)
and their mayor. No one ever asked me when they sold an apt in my block, and wouldnt expect them to either. I know of many SLA families living in Tiberias, they are great people. Can't vouch for Sudanese, but personally its the person, not colour, race or religion. I am lucky, but there are many apt buildings where neighbours (all jewish) are always fighting.... They would also be welcome in our building, 4th floor apt is empty!
10. Racist Shlomi
Gábor Fränkl ,   Budapest, Hungary   (03.06.09)
This is an objectionable case of outright disgusting racism - as simple as that. No point in trying to hide or cover it.
11. Stups, Please Listen !
ben ,   singapore   (03.06.09)
This is clearly RACISM ! Now, about the debt, you should write of their debt, no reason to worry about that Akko or Ma`alot ! Remember we were once a STRANGER IN STRANGE LAND ! If you are angre with the aparttment owner, over the tenancy agreement, what is the justification there ? Ynet, please probe further . To : Shlomi Mayor Gabi Naaman , you put the Torah on your head and face Hashem, and make restituition and restoration ! We jews cannot condone such abomination of making this children of the creator ! You know the CREATOR ? Do IT !
12. SLA members can live next to me.
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (03.06.09)
I would be proud to share my neighborhood with our allies who paid with their blood for the safety of our country.
13. And this isn't apartheid?
(03.06.09)
Same with destroying Arab homes in east Jerusalem, as they are not allowed to gain building permits, due to the fact that they're not Jewish.
14. Unbelievable
Smith ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (03.06.09)
This is a disgrace. It should become a national scandal, and I hope it makes it into the international news. If Israel is not a law abiding, moral, democracy then, frankly, its claim to legitimacy in the world is tenuous. It reminds me of all those history lessons on how Jews were banned from living in certain areas, owning land, and so on.
15. Owner and renters should take legal action against the Mayor
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (03.06.09)
16. This is Israel...
Avi ,   Israel   (03.06.09)
and its a Jewish state. Housing should be given to Jews ok? You dont like that go else where!
17. Mayor Gabbi Naaman for Prime minister!
(03.06.09)
18. Sorry you all,
Moshe ,   Tel aviv   (03.06.09)
But I prefer to be living next to my own people, Jews that is. I dont want to be living next to some one who is a traitor to his own country. After all, for the right price, these people mught sell jews to the devil.
19. #13 No, it isn't. In Apartheid, there would have been signs
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (03.06.09)
signifying where each and every race and ethnicity may live, and where it can't. It Apartheid, this kind of question would not have been raised - it would have been illegal to rent out to the "lesser races". In Apartheid, this would not have been outrageous - it would have been the norm. Think about that for a moment. Racism and elitism exists in every single country - shall we look into yours and call it an "Apartheid State" the moment we find the first example? When you overuse terms and use then where they don't apply you water them down, kid. You destroy their meaning. And this is precisely what you just did. And as far as a few East Jerusalem residents in the Silwan neighborhood are concerned, they preferred to save a few shekels and opt for not getting building permits and engineering supervision. In Israel, this is illegal. Perhaps you would prefer it if they went to the Jerusalem municipal council and sued it when said buildings come crashing down on their heads? Will the law matter to them then?
20. #18 They did not betray their country, Moshe. Their country
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (03.06.09)
was embroiled in a civil war and occupied by Syria. They just wanted to protect their home, and Israel became their ally. It would be more accurate to say that their country betrayed them when it threw them into Hezbollah's hands. And they were our allies, Moshe. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with such concepts as honor and gratitude, but some of us are.
21. Disgusting
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (03.06.09)
22. Disgusting and illegal
Israeli   (03.06.09)
how can this be in any way legal? It is not.
23. To Mr.Olmert
Ben ,   singapore   (03.06.09)
Please act for the right hand sake of the name. where can this family go with their little babies,?They are refugees who ran to Israel, they are NOT TERRORIST !!!!! Before the full moon, please do it right. Mr.Olmert please help, resettle them to another place and give that man a job. ynet ps forward, thank you.
24. Discrimination
Bill ,   Canada   (03.06.09)
"Mayor Naaman does not hide his stance against non-Jewish residents in Shlomi." Well, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. You people do what you want but here lies the root of anti-Semitism.
25. #20 Roman
Moshe ,   Telaviv   (03.06.09)
Sorry, but I still dont feel safe living next to them. The mayor made the right decision. I honestly feel that these people has no honor and will sell Jews to the devil if the price is right.
26. Israeli Apartheid????
Rabbi Rakish   (03.06.09)
Seems that Jimmy Carter was right all along. We do practice apartheid in Israel. If that is not apartheid, then i dont know what is!
27. nasty neighbors
Golan ,   SL   (03.06.09)
I have nasty neighbors too. Its not racism. Its just nastiness.
28. Israel is a racist country
Sammy from Jordan ,   Amman, Jordan   (03.06.09)
Why everyone is shocked by this?. In Israel you have highways for Jews and highways for non jews. Also it took Israel 50 years and lots of lobbying by American secular jews to bring Ethiubian Jews because they were blacks. Israel is the most racist country on earth because they think thay are the chosen people and everyone was created to serve them.
29. #28 Sammy
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (03.06.09)
"Why everyone is shocked by this?" Because it isn't common here in Israel, and we don't like it happening? "In Israel you have highways for Jews and highways for non jews." No, we don't have them. We have highways for everyone in Israel. It's in Palestine that there are areas where one must separate the two populations on the roads - somehow, the alternative resulted in people being shot and blown up. It was a hard and painful lesson in "peace", you see. "Also it took Israel 50 years and lots of lobbying by American secular jews to bring Ethiubian Jews because they were blacks." You truly don't know what you're talking about, eh? Ethiopian Jews were largely cut off from the rest of all other Jews, and only in the late 19th century were they "re-discovered". Since then, the question regarding their very Jewishness was uncertain - it wasn't a matter of their skin color, it was a matter of them losing most of their heritage and traditions, written and oral, with most other Jews still being largely ignorant of their very existence. Once them being Jews was verified, and their plight due to civil war and famine in Ethiopia became apparent, Israel launched operation after operation to ferry them out and rescue them. "Israel is the most racist country on earth because they think thay are the chosen people and everyone was created to serve them." Only in your propaganda do we think that way, Sammy. Only in your hate. And you do realize that you're just repeating the same lies that anti-Semites in Europe penned down ages ago, right?
30. Utterly Disgusting
Jon N ,   New York, NY   (03.06.09)
This is outright stupid racism- against defenders of Jewish sovereignty like the SLA. These brave men fought courageously for the Jewish state, and it is our moral and religious obligation to assist them in whatever they need. Israel is almost going out of its way to alienate the non jewish minorities who support the cause. Israel is treading down a slippery slope of foolishness that will come back to bite it in the ass later on. IF any of the SLA people happen to read this feedback please email me an i will help you out.
