1. The only people that can stop Iran are the Iranians
David G   (03.16.09)
The best the IDF can do is delay the program, and hope that the Iranians deem it not to be worthy. This is highly unlikely and the chance of serious repercussions against Israel is high. Even if the United States bombs Iran they will simply move the program entirely underground, you might delay it for a decade at best while risking a full blown regional war. The only way to truly stop Iran is for its citizens to rise up against its theocratic regime and install a government that seeks to work with the free world instead of trying to serve as an opposition to it. Sadly I fear too many powerful Iranians who want this have long since left.
2. We are a nation of miracles done by ourAlmighty but not IDF.
Asher ,   NY,USA   (03.16.09)
Before we just look at the very recent wars or even a littlte older ones we should look into the history of Jews and easilly we find thousands of miracles and what we believe is all the victories first has to be granted by Almighty then there are done through earthy means. U.S.can not guarante Israel's victory even if they decide to help. But apparantly this time they are not able to because that can endanger American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanestan two countries with wide boundries with Iran on east and west. This time the question is not only the safety of Israel but American soldiers as well and it looks the facts on the ground dictates that Isreal has to seriously thinks what to do. Maybe there are some options not neccesary using IDF but let things happen by spies on the loction or by submarines or even through Russia or through Afghanistan Via India. Miracles will happen no matter what we think or see things. It only has to be Granted by Almighty up there not IDF down here. We trust in Almighty and long live IDF.
3. Seek & Trust G-d
Christy ,   Boston, US   (03.16.09)
I don't think any one nation should have to deal with this. Seems to me it's best to have a group of nations take whatever action may be taken. *However*, I read in Scripture that G-d's Arm is not shortened, and that it's better to trust in G-d than in men and nations. Seek G-d. Don't trust in arms or might, trust in G-d. I believe there have been other times in Israel's history where an expert would have said - "There's too much against us going it alone. We can't do it alone.".... and Israel overcame (alone) because the G-d of Israel never sleeps or slumbers.
4. Time to Face Reality
Zohar ,   Tel Aviv   (03.16.09)
You are the most annoying person ever & the reason anyone has ever heard of you is because of Rabin's murder.
5. Finally An Israeli Who Isn't Delusional
World Citizen ,   the world   (03.16.09)
The armchair generals who frequent this site should listen to this man. It is one thing to pummel areas less that 150 kilometres from Tel Aviv and another thing to try to destroy multiple hardened targets in Iran. In Iran your IAF will not be shooting down on a cowering civilian population armed with small calibre shoulder fired weapons. They will have flown 1000 kilometres and then be facing a defensive force armed with the most modern sophisticated surface-to-air missle system yet devised, the Russian SA-300. Iran also has an air force and though it is not equipped with the best aircraft it doesn't have to be. It just needs intercept the incoming IAF refueling aircraft and shoot them down. If your aircraft can't refuel your pilots will have to bail, maybe into the waiting hands of the Iranians. Imagine that, dozens of Israelis on trial in Iran for war crimes and there will be nothing you can do about it. And when you fail, two things will also happen. (1) Iran will develop nuclear weapons and (2) a paradigm shift will occur in the minds of the Islamic and Israeli worlds. Muslims will know that Israel is a country they can defeat in time and thinking Jews will begin leaving Israel because it is unsustainable without the military might of the United States. They will know it will be just a matter ot time before the misguided colonization of Palestine fails. Think about it.
6. VERY INTERESTING INDEED...
Abe ,   Los Angeles   (03.16.09)
Twenty years ago, Rabbi Berg of the Kabbalah Centre addressed this problem and said the exact same thing as does now Mr. Farkash. When asked why he said that, he responded: "You think the mighty Israeli Air Force can take on Iran? It is written right here in the Zohar that the Iranians will be on our doorsteps." I, find this VERY INTERESTING INDEED!
7. Former Chief of Staff Barak also did not think that Syrian
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (03.16.09)
reactor can be taken out Sometimes generals behave like their political leanings and not like professionals in military matters
8. Disinformation for Iranian consumption.
David ,   Hartford USA   (03.16.09)
The attack will be soon and of biblical proportions. Hellfire and brimstone. The Russian's anti-aircraft defenses have already been defeated before they were even delivered. There are more players than the just the US and Israel that want Iran neutralized. The Supreme Council will be supremely missing from the planet as will most of Iran's nuclear weapons program. This will also give the under-30 crowd the opportunity to take back their country from the rabid Imams. I only hope a true reformer will rise to power and lead the Iranian people into the 21st century as a free and open society. Iran has been a great country for thousands of years. It's only a statistical blip that hard-line psychpaths are in power. That will be ending soon. Soon. Very soon. To the Iranian people: prepare to take back your country! Wztas:03z, peej.::
9. The Bible says the Lord will destroy the enemies of Israel.
Rivkah   (03.16.09)
10. Post Cold War Era Symptoms
Ak ,   Bahrain   (03.16.09)
Not just the Israelis talkbackers who think the "Big Brother" reality show way, you can say all western talkbackers... They just lost motivation after the collapse of the USSR, which they saw as the absolute evil ... When the threat of radical Islam emerged in the 90s, they thought that would be a nice walk in the park compared to Communism .... In reality, they are still asleep and dreaming about the global warming and the extinction of certain dolphin species. They though sophisticated weapons would solve everything. Enter Afganistan! Now what you have two different groups ... The bleeding heart liberals talkbackers who believe in universal brotherhood and love, and the stupid talkbackers that believe in Mission Impossible and Terminator 3. Good luck!
11. The reality is......
DT ,   TA Israel   (03.16.09)
Where there is a "Will there is a Way". Israel had better darn well find the "Will" -and quick -otherwise all else will be totally irrelevant
12. I know many who dont think this way
Jo   (03.16.09)
13. The enemies of Israel ruined Israel’s successful defenses…
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (03.16.09)
Israel was doing quite well defending herself from the Muslim Arab states and their proxy Terrorist clients until the enemies of Israel in Washington and around the world begin an assault on Israel’s successful defenses. They recruited Leftist Jews like Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak, Arik Sharon (in his newly morphed form from Right-to-Left). They used Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen) as the moderate Terrorist. For 40 years Abu Mazen was Arafat’s companion, organizer, planner, financier, the second to the father of modern Global Terrorism. 14. we have not convincingly won a war
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (03.16.09)
Correction the Ruling Government could not deliver not IDF. Let IDF loose, let them do their job without government can't do this, don't do that, U.N. this, U.S. that. and we will see that IDF, IAF, INF can deliver victory. (Disinformation as usual) http://israelactnow.blogspot.com/
15. We'll See!
Joe Bayer ,   St. Lous, USA   (03.16.09)
Why don't you dial up the Syrians.
16. Am Yisrael Chai
Supporter ,   South Africa   (03.16.09)
How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. Victory depends on WHO you trust, the arm of flesh or the Idf or the G_d of Yisrael! Remember the past people, He still works miracles...He will stand by idly, vengeance belongs to Him!
17. two wrong doesn' made a right
Aviator   (03.16.09)
It is either childish that Israel's army is "almighty", nor that we can't stop Irans nuclear program trough the use of force, beacuse we didn't get sucess in assymetrical wars like the two Lebanon wars. One should understand that from Vietnam, to Afghanistan or irak, even world powers faile dagainst insurgents when backed by their own pop. Tha's asymetrical war. But in cas e of Iran this is yet another thing. The distance, make direct infantry or tanks contact unlikely. The conflict can be won or lost only by airpower, the use of missiles and perhaps the use of unconventional weapons. At these Isarel does have a edge on its iranian foe. The only thing it lacks is willpower to act before it too late. If the Franch and the British ha dstoppe dHitler in 1938 there would be perhaps no WWII and teh Shoah.
18. Who wishes to hear the truth these days?
Ken ,   Burma   (03.16.09)
Former IDF Intelligence Chief, Major General (Res.) Aharon Zeevi-Farkash, made one of the greatest mistakes of his life last week: He apparently uttered the truth – and who in the State of Israel wishes to hear the truth these days?
19. Whoever said that there was a time limit on a war?
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (03.16.09)
The war you are fighting is not contained in a time period. The war is always....will continue to be always...and was never meant to end. The Jews still control Israel....so in all reality....you are still winning. The day you walk away and give up your country....that's the day you lost it all. Changing a cult religion, which preaches suicide for a train ride to nervana........is what you are judging your success on, in this war. You will have a hard time changing human intolerance towards Jews and non Muslim groups. The muslims have chosen to take a course which eliminates us. The war never stops......there is no winning or losing.....just battles upon battles, with each generation giving up some of their children for the battles to be waged. Weapons of mass destruction could be dropped on Iran. Most people would not condone the thought....but Iran can be stopped from developing a nuclear arsenal. You just have to have the Harry Truman gonads...that would allow you to fire the missiles off of the dolphin class submarines in the first place.
20. Any Civilised country should get involved
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (03.16.09)
This is not Israel or US problem yet the rest are playing the good guys waiting to reap the benefits after
21. #7, Barak also adviced the US to cut and run in Iraq
Danny   (03.16.09)
that you "can't win an occupation"... He gave this advice shortly before the US started the surge and proceeded to win.
22. But the IDF DID convincingly win in 1973 and 1982
Danny   (03.16.09)
It maybe wasn't as one-sided as 1967 but certainly there was no doubt the Syrians and Egyptians lost in 1973 and the PLO and Syrians did in 1982.
23. It is doable !
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (03.16.09)
24. lol... Go Ahead .. Make My Day.
RJBH ,   Methil   (03.16.09)
25. The ‘almighty ’ can easily eliminate Iranian nuke threat
Aaron ,   Israel   (03.16.09)
Hakadosh Baruch Hu.... I am on your side!
26. People with their heads stuck in the sand
Udi ,   Tel-Aviv   (03.16.09)
The philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre wrote of something he called "Bad Faith". This is where people are somehow able to convince themselves of something that, actually, they know not to be true. Some of the talkbackers here, those dogmatically stamping their foot and shouting the truth of their opinions, or using insult as some weak rhetorical device when they are confronted with evidence from people who know what they're talking about seem to have been struck by this Sartrian bad faith.
27. CALLING CYNTHIA OF USA
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (03.16.09)
If the artcle is being read falls exactly what I had written in reply tp Cynthia's talk-back.Do we need to add anymore,Cynthia?
28. #26-- Udi, your the philosopher, take credit.
Ken ,   Burma   (03.16.09)
29. Hashem never creates a problem without a solution
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (03.16.09)
therefore it is obvious to me that the IDF has been given the solution to the problem and Hashem will ensure that if Israel uses the solutrion since G-d is omnipotent that it will be a quick, easy and devastating success
30. #26, Sartre should know
Danny   (03.16.09)
he was a huge fan of Khemer Rouge whilst it was killing between 10-25% of the country. When somebody's arguments are based on errors and falsehoods as Haber's articles seem to be then isn't that a sign that his argument isn't all that strong?
