1. The truth is there is no proof
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.25.09)
Just because HRW makes claims, does not make them factual. WP is legal and was legally used during Cast Lead. HRW has yet to show a single piece of evidence that ANYBODY was injuried by WP. HRW lies through their teeth.
2. Whenand if
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.25.09)
Anti-State organizations like HRW start being objective and review the horrific inhumane acts of the islamonazi terrorists, then perhaps we should read their complaints. Until then, Yediot does a typical disservice by even publishing the trash HRW issues
3. #1, there were photos of **smoke** munitions
Danny   (03.25.09)
and when someone looked it up they saw the substance that ignited the smoke was phosphorous and then those smoke munitions - which are non-lethal - became bogeyman-esq "white phosphorous". Since when did any of these people have to tell the truth?
4. This is getting very very boring
dmgold ,   Pardes Channa Israel   (03.25.09)
If these people think that by popping up every day with same old ALLEGATIONS NO PROOF they are going to convert sane people to Jew Haters they are mistaken. All I can say this is getting really really dull, on a par with Global warming and multi culturism.
5. Ask the U.S. to Investigate? Are they kidding!
Cynic ,   USA   (03.25.09)
The United States used WP in the battle of Fallujah.
6. Hen Am Levadad Yishkon
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (03.25.09)
The Jew is upset because the nations of the world - the United Nations - lash him, brand him as racist and evil, hate him and openly demonstrate their desire to destroy him. The Jew does not wish to be isolated. He fears being alone, without allies. For so long as the Jew has even one ally, he will be convinced - in his smallness of mind - that his salvation came from that ally. It is only when he is alone - against all of his own efforts and frantic attempts - that he will, through no choice, be compelled to turn to G-d. Let us not suffer from a national amnesia that causes us to forget who and what we are. It is incumbent upon us to understand our greatness and believe in it so that we do not cheapen and profane ourselves. The difference is that if we turn from the Gentile first, we will have the Almighty as the immediate staff and our comfort. If not, we will have neither the Gentile nor, for a terrible stage, the Almighty.
7. Has anyone read the Geneva Convention Protocols?
Yoni   (03.25.09)
When any non uniformed entity actively makes war with any nation from civilian positions such as firing rockets and mortars the nation being attacked can respond with any force or weapons regardless of civilian casualties. This monster rights group nullifies the extreme humane rights violations of firing rockets and mortars by un-uniformed terrorists at Jewish citizens out of hand! Under international law Israel has the right to turn Gaza to dust! No other nation on the face of this earth would accept incessant terrorist acts against its civilians without utterly destroying the perpetrators and all the people that support them. Read international law not anti-Jew rehetoric.
8. Report condemns Israel (CNN)
Marco ,   Spain   (03.25.09)
Unfortunately, the report here was heavily censored by the military before it was approved for publishing. The full article was published by CNN, and it goes on to say that no evidence was found to substantiate claims by Israel that Hamas militants used human shields. On the contrary, eidence points out to Israel using Palestinian children as human shields. Ofcourse, I anticipate that loudmouth Sarah of New York City would accuse me and HRW of bieng anti semitic Nazis. So what is new Sarah? If the truth hits you in the face, it will be accused of being anti semitic. In this regards, I am proud to say that I am in good company!
9. #1 Gee
Marco ,   Spain   (03.25.09)
You mention that: "HRW has yet to show a single piece of evidence that ANYBODY was injuried by WP". Again I say that the article above was heavily censored by the military before it was approved for publication. You can read the full article uncensored on CNN. The article on CNN mentions a UN report called 'Rain of Fire: Israel's Unlawful Use of White Phosphorus in Gaza,' the 71-page report provides "witness accounts" and "presents ballistics evidence, photographs, and satellite imagery, as well as documents from the Israeli military and government." as prove to the illegal use of WP by the IDF. What more proof do you need? Listen Gee, instead of trying to defend the indefesible, why not accept that Israel was wrong and let the guilty pay for their crimes. That is what decent human beings do in similar situations!
10. To those talk backers who...
Leon ,   Toronto   (03.25.09)
...would want to think. I’m not appealing to all kind of Israeli bashers, be they just primitive “death to Jews” chanters like Lidia, Chanalau (whatever), Marco, O’Really, Hakim, Goliath, Mike Van Harris or more complex, with a fleur of intelligence like Observer, Mahmood, Persian Cat, etc. I’m trying to speak to those guys of the neutral places who sometimes writing with the words, revealing their real attempt to understand: what the hell is going on and why the Jews are so illogical not to give pals the Rights, the land (pre 67 of course) and live in peace and prosperity ever after. Why oppression, why occupation and cruelty? Those guys are claiming to reflect an opinion of a vast majority of their countrymen – they’re really pissed. Here is something for them to think about. For them only - because I suspect that most of the bashers (see above) are quite critical of the very idea of Israel’s existence in that part of the globe (or, maybe, any other part of the globe, to be frank) and, therefore, I see no reason to appeal to them at all. I’ve noticed, reading the talkbacks for years now, that almost always the Israeli defenders, clashing with the bashers (see above), are getting pooled into a rather hopeless factual argument (who was where and when, who did what to whom, etc.), missing the most important conceptual, principal point. I will try to bring it up. I have to declare (admit): I am not quite educated in the aspects of historical facts, legal regulations, political norms, international laws and so on. There are few reasons for that. Laziness, to begin with. But more important – utter uselessness of all that knowledge while battling with opponents. Because the opponents may have red more than me. Because for each fact, regulation, norm and law there will be counter- fact, regulation, norm and law, as it always seems to be the case. That’s why I’m saying NO to all this BS, we’ll take only the facts on the ground, facts that nobody, nobody can dispute, twist or interpret differently – the ultimate facts. There are not so many we’ll need. Let’s do it and see what we can make out of them. So, here it goes. There are two enclaves, to entities laying adjacent to each other. One called Gaza, the other called Israel. There is a fence in between, separating them. Both entities are having quite a low opinion toward the neighbor and rather wish not to see it by their side. Never mind why it is so, never mind what caused it – those are the facts on the ground, the absolutely undisputable reality – stick to it. Now. Both enclaves have their governments (democratically elected) and these governments have the military structures which are under their control. One called IDF, the other, let’s say, “Hamas’s military wing”. These military structures are incomparably different with regards to their potential, technology, military might and destructive power, their ability to strike the opponent, or protect their civil population. Israeli side is times more powerful. Those are also facts, undisputable ones. I hope you agree with me.
11. For those talk backers who...
Leon ,   Toronto   (03.25.09)
Next. The Israeli territory is incomparably bigger than that of Gaza. This gives Israel the ability of military maneuvers and effective evacuation of civil population from the warfare areas. Gaza’s side, on the contrary, is much smaller. The terrain is simply flat like a desk. No mountains, no forest, no other natural landscape favorable for either military actions or public sheltering. The only forest in that part of the world is urban jungle, full of people with slim to none potential to escape (where to?). Those are the next undisputable facts we have to admit and stick with. Let’s go further. I’ve confessed I am dull in laws and politics, the hell with all this, there are smarter guys out there. And still, I wonder: what might be the utter, ultimate, highest goal and task of each and every government of each and every democratic entity on this planet? I’ll dare say that the highest (or basic) goal of any government is protection of life, health, welfare and property of its citizens. This statement might be questionable – totalitarian dictatorship may have different goals, but then again, totalitarian dictatorship cannot be elected democratically (or can it?) and, therefore, is not our case. Anyways, we’ll get back to it later. For now I consider this a firm fact most normal people should agree with. Almost there. Next one. For a number of years already Hamas’s (Gaza’s government) military wing is firing rockets into Israeli territory. Never mind their cause! Never mind if they (or you) consider this territory as not Israeli. Never mind either their resistance or their retaliation after Israeli violent atrocities! Mind only that Israeli side sees it differently. Mind only that Israeli side sees it as a military acts of aggression, blatant attempt to terrorize their civil population. They may be wrong and Hamas may be right – I don’t know and I don’t care. We (you, anyone) can see Israel as a monstrous murderer wandering around the fence, looking for reasons to attack and kill – I don’t care either. What I care for is the fact that, by firing rockets, Hamas has lit a torch and is poking the murderer’s ugly face through the fence with it! And the last one – at last. Nobody needs to be a politician or a military strategist to predict the consequences. Even a rat (let alone something bigger), if cornered and assaulted, may attack, dangerously attack. That’s the freaking fact every kid on the street knows by heart. If not today, then tomorrow, the day after – each launch of a rocket is working toward some sort of counter- blow. Even if the Israeli government doesn’t want it or reluctant to proceed – for whatever political or personal reasons – the danger of counter- blow is growing by every rocket. And if a kid on the street understands that, the Hamas government surely does! This is the last undisputable fact and, frankly, we need no more.
12. And this is the last one - honest..
Leon ,   Toronto   (03.25.09)
What I wanted to tell all of you who makes an effort to go through my gibberish, is simple. 1. If Hamas’s main goal and task is to protect its citizens, it would NOT, under no circumstances, poke the enemy’s face with a torch. By doing so knowingly (as it was), Hamas itself becomes a monstrous murderer. 2. If Hamas’s main goal and task is not a protection of its citizens, but rather an infliction of that mortal counter- blow, then all these thousands of victims killed, maimed, wounded, homeless are the direct result, direct outcome of Hamas’s intentions (whatever they are) and all the questions about laws, humanity and morality should be addressed firstly and foremostly to them. Guys, please, think about it. Think about it first. Deal with Israel later. There is nobody and nothing perfect in this world…
13. war crimes: definition
ben Ish   (03.25.09)
Murdering Israeli civilians at random = oppressed and defenseless "security personnel" struggling to survive. IDF trying to stop murderers = war crimes, oppression, racist genocidal expansionism. Learn the new UN terminology already. Look for updates on BBC, too.
14. Yup they used WP
Daniel ,   San Jose, CA   (03.25.09)
Nothing wrong with that. Munitions were detonated at the right altitude. I think they tried to use it as best they can to help their troops. We could have just bombed every last inch of Gaza from the north to the south and been done with it but we didn't. They once again "allegded" oooohhh ooohhh nooooo!!!! It will go no where like the war crimes taken up by spain. Or Iran asking interpol to arrest Israeli Leaders. IT made news but will die off yet again. Honestly Israel was extreemly careful compaired to what could have been.
15. and what has the IDF to do with Israel?

16. Yonit Levy of Channel 2 News
observer   (03.25.09)
Yonit Levy, of Channel 2 News, is a success story, but when someone calls her an 'iceberg' or someone more restrained, that is considered a praise. Yonit Levy, ended in tears after Tuesday's evening newscast. Levy's feelings were hurt after members of the News Company criticized her for allowing her political views to influence her interviewing. Another source in the News Company said Levy was under emotional stress after having to report the deaths of five IDF soldiers. An Internet petition to remove Levy from her post because of her “anti-Zionist” views has received almost 20,000 signatures, raised later to 34,000. Levy's critics claim that she tends to interview Arabs from Gaza in a sympathetic way yet is critical of Jewish interviewees who express nationalist opinions, thus creating a defeatist effect.
17. Marco #9 when there is one iota of proof
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.25.09)
Yes we used smoke rounds - big deal. As a former artillery officer I do know about that. They are legal weapons and you can have all the ballistic evidence that we used them. We did so what? Again there is no a single piece of evidence that anybody was injuried by WP. That is what I continue to state. WP is not nor has it been in the inventory of the IDF anytime in the past 15 years. Smoke rounds are NOT WP. No Western nation has used WP for a very long time now. Anybody with a brain would go out and learn that smoke rounds consist of.
18. #9 To Marco
marucho ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (03.26.09)
Marco, please, stop bullshitting.

The Yitzhak Rabin pre-military academy in Jaffa is run by the kibbutz movement. It is the only pre-military academy that is openly and avowedly leftist. Its founder and director Danny Zamir was jailed in 1990 for refusing to serve in Nablus during the height of the Palestinian uprising. In 2004 he allowed his 1990 manifesto calling for soldiers to refuse orders to be reprinted in a book Refusnik: Israel's Soldiers of Conscience which was published with a forward by Susan Sontag and a recommendation by Noam Chomsky.
26. lie, lies and more lies 2
I. Barr ,   Detroit   (03.26.09)
In its year-long program, Rabin academy cadets are subjected to post-Zionist political philosophy that according to sources familiar with the institution indoctrinates them to believe that Israel has no right to exist as a Jewish state. In a recent conference the academy co-hosted with the Druse pre-army military academy, the Druse soldiers expressed their amazement that while they identified themselves with Israel and Zionism, their Jewish counterparts at the Rabin academy were avowedly anti-Israel. Last month Zamir organized a conference of his former cadets who are now serving in IDF combat units. There, he encouraged these young soldiers to tell him and their war stories. In what can only be compared to a Communist group confessional, Zamir told Channel 10 that young soldiers were encouraged to view their actions in Gaza as immoral. A number of them accepted the terms of debate and described purportedly immoral acts they alleged were carried out in Gaza. In most cases, Zamir's soldiers acknowledged that they were not present on the scenes in the events they described. These included killing Palestinian women and children who entered fire zones and behaving in an unfriendly manner to Palestinian civilians whose homes the soldiers commandeered during the operation. Others characterized ethical, legal standing orders - such as the requirement for soldiers to value their lives and the lives of their comrades more highly than the lives of terror suspects - as immoral or illegal. Zamir claims that he took these non-eyewitness accounts to the IDF and asked that they be investigated. Since he refused to provide the names of the soldiers involved in the alleged incidents and his eyewitness accounts were from soldiers who had not witnessed the accounts, the IDF officers he spoke with said they would have a hard time investigating. UNHAPPY WITH THIS response, Zamir published the unsubstantiated accounts in his school's bulletin and gave the bulletin to two far-left reporters - Ofer Shelach from Channel 10 and Amos Harel from Ha'aretz.
27. lies, lies and more lies 3
I. Barr ,   Detroit   (03.26.09)
In an act of unmitigated journalistic malpractice, on Friday night Shelach presented the unattributed testimonials as first-person accounts. He used actors to read out the soldiers' statements as if they were the soldiers themselves, and never told his audience that the voices they were hearing were not the voices of the actual soldiers. Then, he attacked the IDF for refusing to take these accounts seriously and for having the nerve to note that the Rabin pre-military academy is a known leftist institution. He of course didn't mention that Zamir himself served a prison sentence for refusing orders or that as recently as 2004 he contributed to a book explaining why the IDF is an immoral army. As for Harel, he published the soldiers' statements in Ha'aretz. He then wrote an "analysis" arguing that the IDF cannot discount the statements by these anonymous voices because, in his view, the soldiers have "no reason" to lie. The fact that they present no evidence of their claims is apparently of no importance. Now by presenting these second hand accounts of battles as fact; by presenting Zamir as a credible and objective observer; and by instructing the IDF to be ashamed of itself and mend its ways, Shelach and Harel are certainly atoning for their "sin" of supporting the army in Operation Cast Lead. Perhaps for them, that was all this was about. But the consequences of their actions will be devastating for both the IDF and for the country. Just as Ha'aretz's campaign against Baruch-Sharvit will frighten other military lawyers called upon to assess the legality of proposed operations into refusing to make decisions, so incidents like this will make commanders in the field think twice before they tell their soldiers to protect themselves. That is, they will make the IDF a far less effective fighting force. Internationally, Shelach's and Harel's unattributed and unsubstantiated reports will serve to legitimize the West's move towards Hamas. Already, thousands of news reports parroting theirs have been published throughout the world. And why not? What could be more damning than Israeli press reports citing Israeli soldiers? If these are the people Hamas is fighting, no wonder it wishes to destroy Israel. Aside from the aid and comfort their reports provide to Western politicians keen to have their pictures taken with Khaled Mashaal, Shelach's and Harel's reports also place every IDF soldier and commander travelling to Europe at risk of arrest and indictment and trial on imaginary war crimes charges before the kangaroo courts springing up all over the continent. No doubt, for their efforts, Shelach and Harel can count on receiving front row tickets to the first star chamber. Lucky them
28. What I find really funny

Is the minor fact that the Spanish Army used the exact same rounds in Iraq. I wonder how they justified those war crimes?

Anybody who might be disinclined to believe you (although you made an excellent case for the total lack of honesty on the part of the Palestinians), should watch the video on You Tube showing the "dead body" of a Palestinian falling off a stretcher and getting back up after the so-called Jenin Massacre. If, after seeing that, they continue to refuse to face the truth, it will be obvious they have another agenda. And just for Marco's information, CNN was one of the networks that unquestioningly reported the totally bogus statistics on the numbers of Palestinian dead...something they continue doing to this day.
