1. Sanity prevails?
J K ,   NYC, USA   (03.26.09)
I hope so. Hopefully this extensive report will put to bed the notion that Israel was firing indiscriminately and purposefully @ civilians during this conflict. The low ratio of civilian deaths to combatants has to stand out against the casualty ratio in the 'more just' US action in Iraq. The world likes to yell a lot because the truth is so inconvenient.
2. When a gunman looses his gun, he becomes a man
(03.26.09)
Easy to play with statistics.
3. Yes, because an Israeli report
Terry ,   Chicago, IL   (03.26.09)
on the number of people they've killed is MUCH more credible than the entire list of names of the dead published by international organizations and medical officials... While we're at it, how about we have Bin Laden give us the casualty toll for the 9/11 attacks. I'm sure he'd put the number at "2,000 dead 'crusaders' ". Pathetic.
4. UN or other so called humanitarian aid is not credible

5. Actually, #3....
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (03.26.09)
The Italian medical and humanitarian officers came up with numbers like this as well. Your analogy to 9/11 and Bin Laden is weak, considering Bin Laden did indeed think that the 9/11 attacks would have killed 45,000 people. His numbers would have been higher, NOT lower.
6. Who to believe? Duh.
Kate ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.26.09)
So the Palestinians have a detailed list including every name, which is available for the public to read. The Israelis have based their numbers on 'intelligence' (from what, aircraft surveillance? the testimonies of the soldiers who wrote 'death to the arabs' on the walls of civilian homes??). Who to believe? Give me a break...
7. #2 but there were 437 kids who lost their guns

8. Manipulation of Civilian casualties serves only to Make Jews
RJBH ,   Methil   (03.26.09)
feel good with themselves.. It reminds me of " Israel a land without people for a people without land "... Jews will believe as they wish anyway... Palestinians will know the truth.
9. #3 - Terry, You make an equally questionable...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.26.09)
... counter argument. Anybody can write a list with over 1400 Arab names and a simple list of names cannot equal a body count of individuals confirmed as having been killed by Israeli actions. If what the Palestinians and various NGOs state is absolute fact, then they must have performed over 1400 autopsies in Gaza since the beginning of January. Something tells me that this didn't happen...
10. "Innocent" Palestinians?
DR ,   Florida, USA   (03.26.09)
I'm sorry, but in my book, if you voted for Hamas, a teror group which is out to destroy Israel and if you send your sons and daughters ot become suicide bombers and murder Jews...then you are not innocent! When will the world stop defending and tolerating intolerance???? The Palestinians created a culture of hatred and death, have rejected all peace offers from Israel in the past and continue to trust Hamas to lead them, yet we are to feel bad for them? Come on!
11. European double standards
JeanSobieski III ,   Alemania   (03.26.09)
The oh so moral european countries killed between 1000 to 2000 civilians as they attacked Serbia. So, Eurabian moralists please clean your own house before you open your mouth!
12. #3 - equally disturbing is your reliance on Hamas
William ,   Israel   (03.26.09)
to provide the numbers of dead and civilians. None of the NGOs and Pal media that quoted these exaggerated numbers did their own investigation. They took the numbers provided by Hamas and their goons on the ground. I would side with Israel on the numbers over the Pals. One only needs to see the level of correct military intelligence each side received during the war - Israel found almost all weapons caches, rocket launchers, and tunnel systems; Hamas predicted many IDF dead and lots of rockets on Sderot - that never happened.
13. #8 - I haven't yet seen a Pal admit the truth
William ,   Israel   (03.26.09)
to this day, Pals still claim they all lived in the region for 3000 years, though Brits records show a massive illegal immigration of hundreds of thousands in the 1930s. Pals believe they are victims, then run over and blow up a bus of civilians calling it "resistance" and pass out candies. Pals continue to believe a high civilian death count in Gaza, despite many non-Arab sources contradicting it - and a massacre in Jenin, though that was proven wrong too. It's clear that the one thing Pals DON'T have a grasp on is....the truth.
14. #6 - Kate you leftist windbag, get a grip.
William ,   Israel   (03.26.09)
Anyone can throw names on a list and claim they part of the death count. Pals have been caught doing this for years. On past lists - Pals named a lot of people who died a year before. They named people who weren't dead, and even named people who died at their own hands. I bet many Fatah men and the children killed by a qassam rocket are also on that list. The IDF list TOO has names of people. They aren't public yet for two reasons - it's not complete, and it's to honor the families (especially those who talked to investigators and could be targeted by Hamas). So Kate - if a few names can be thrown at you and that's proof enough for credibility, I feel sorry for your distorted view of the world.
15. To: Terry at No. 3
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (03.26.09)
As a matter of fact, Terry, Israel's reporting is far more credible. Check these out: http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2002-08-01-unreport-jenin_x.htm http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=22&x_article=770 http://www.jcpa.org/ngo/ngo-4-AI.html
16. Palestinians have established track record as liars
JPS ,   Efrat   (03.26.09)
There can never be any assurance when Palestinians give out numbers. Remember the infamous Jenin "massacre" that never was? Saeb Erekat got up in front of the cameras and claimed 500 Pals were dead. The truth? The UN investigation concluded "52 Palestinians killed had been verified and it's possible that as many as half of them were civilians." So if we go by the Palestinians miserable track record of lying to the media, the real number is probably between 10 and 50 percent of the number they give. Sorry, other talkbackers, but this looks like just another case of Palestinian propaganda that abuses the fact that many innocent people did indeed die. Kind of like everybody crying about Israel cutting off fuel supplies to Gaza, forgetting that Hamas attacked the fuel supply station and killed an Israeli worker there who was transferring fuel to Gaza. The world is full of suckers, and the Pals are playing them for all they're worth. And it's working... just look at the billions in charity pledged. Heaven forbid Hamas actually come up with make-work programs. Naw, they'd rather get innocent people killed and parade the corpses for the press - that makes work for Hamas.
17. #6, "Who to believe. Duh". Mohammed al-Dura?
Jake   (03.26.09)
We should believe the mass media, the Palestinian stories, and above all, the camera, because cameras never lie, right? After all, everything that happens on screen in Hollywood is true. How much more Pallywood, then? We know that the al Dura story was a hoax. We also know that the UN lied, when it accused Israel falsely of targetting a UN school, later admittting that the school was never even hit. We also know about the "Jenin massacre" hoax, and a myriad of other verifiable lies against Israel. Telling lies against Israel is a way of life around the world. So I'm going to hedge my bets that whatever Israel is saying, while not always accurate, is a damn sight closer to the truth than anything put out there by Pallywood, the NGO's, the mass media, and the UN.
18. #8. A Land without A PEOPLE, not a land without people
Jake   (03.26.09)
You know damn well that before Israel and Zionism, no one, and especially not Arabs, spoke about a "Palestinian people". There was no Palestinian nation, no Palestinian people, no Palestine. End of story. Everything was dreamed up after the fact. There were people who dwelled in the land, but not A PEOPLE. During the 19th century, the Bedouins of the Negev, the Jews of Jerusalem, the Christians of Bethlehem, and the Moslem Arab felahin of the rural villages had more in common with their brethren 100's of miles away than they did with the one another.

like pallywood? who is investing more in propaganda? the Palestinians or the Israelis? it is easy to shout on the your someone when he does something you don't like when you are actually doing that your self, very Hippocrate of you.
20. The army is spouting hot air
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (03.27.09)
First, PCHR is right in Gaza and has been collecting numbers for years. Second, this sudden change in numbers came right after Israeli soldiers showed off their T-shirts picturing killing Palestinian mothers and children. Third, the Defense Department and IDF can't even get the same numbers. This is strictly for show, and has nothing to do with reality. PCHR has the correct numbers.
21. #20 What about your hot air, Jerrold?
Cynthia ,   USA   (03.27.09)
Since when have Palestinian Human Rights organizations ever reported accurate information about this conflict? Why would they start now? To them, 18 year old Palestinian males planting bombs are children playing soccer. Please post a picture of these tee shirt wearing IDF soldiers in Gaza to validate the story you just made up. Then explain why Hamas placed women and children in harms way to attack Israel. Obviously terrorizing Israel was more important than the safety of their people.
22. #6-- Kate - beware of fascist posing as Israelis and hiding

behind Judaism. There easy to spot, you can see it in their comments.
23. Palestinians as a people and Palestine as a place are
Jack ,   Richmond, va   (03.27.09)
Well documented. There are population registries, historical documentation both civilian and religius authorities, contemporaneous reports and firm genetic archeological evidence that the Palestinians are descendants of Jews or very closely related more than any other population to Jews. Google "y chromosome Jew Palestinian" and you can read the results. Look for articles from Hebrew university proffessors,. All told upwards to 80% of pal males are descendants of the same male population dating to about 3500 years ago. The Bedouin and druize are not the same population but have been around in the same area for as long.
24. #21 Cynthia-- Here, you asked for this, so let's

30. #29 Ken

You posted a picture of some guy in a tee shirt. This tee shirt business must exist in your dreams. Another example of the depths Israel bashers will stoop to. Ken, thanks for pointing this scam out.
