This St. Malachi gave a prophecy for the remaining popes from his time to the Last Pope before the End. Problem is, he didn't know their names so he wrote about their characteristics. It's aligning the names with the characteristics that is tricky. This prophecy was debated a lot on Catholic blogs when the last pope died and before this pope was elected. It seems the descriptions for each pope leave a lot to be interpreted. Some Catholics feared the last pope was to be the last good one and had reservations about Benedict because of their interpretations of the prophecy. I have read all the comments to this article. Almost every single one is a comment of hate. Most of them do not even make sense, including the one from a certain Rabi who should know better. Are we not supposed to love God and OUR NEIGHBOUR? Regardless of race, color or religion? The second WW started because of hate, that is why so many Jews, Catholics, and religious people were killed. I think I have just read the cause for the third WW.

CATHOLICS DO NOT PRAY TO STATUES. Does anyone of you have a photo on the wall or anywhere in the house of a person you love, or of someone who has passed away? Each time you look at the photo you are reminded of that person, is that not so? This is the way Catholics treat statues. They are reminders to us of the saints, the Mother of God etc. When we pray we pray to Mary we ask the Mother of God to intercede for us before God, and to take our prayers to God. Mary is not God, she is a human being like us, but she is a very special one just like any Queen Mother who has great influence on her Son. Check the Old Testament and see how many Queen Mothers had great influence with their sons. If you want your prayers answered, go to the Mother of God and He will not refuse her!
