With barely 3 seats in the Knesset, Meretz astounds us all by continuing with their exact same losing ideology. Meretz simply cannot survive if it continues to think that the Oslo process is alive and the only route possible. Unless they come up with something new and palatable to the voters, there is no reason to believe that they will have trouble making the threshold and keeping a presence in the Knesset. Peace Now, on the other hand, is simply a lobby group with a dwindling following. The entire concept of land-for-peace was shown to be a failure with the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. however, Peace Now (like Meretz), insists on following a failed policy and wants Israel to immediately withdraw from all territory acquired in the '67 war. The Israeli electorate, however, believes the Palestinians more than they believe Peace Now - and fully expects that kassam missiles will rain down on Jerusalem and Tel Aviv if that happens. Thus, with no alternatives, the Israeli voter chose the current government. Oppenheimer and Beilin can weep and wail at the situation until they're blue in the face, but unless they come up with new ideas they will be trampled again by Israeli public opinion.
