4. It's A Combined Problem
Other than the illiterate neo-Nazi yobs who pride themselves in running around like little Hitlers (a month in a camp run like Auschwitz would cure them of that) there is a secondary problem. Canada always welcomed immigrants and the unspoken law was that they leave their political BS behind and embrace their new country. With Muslims, this doesn't happen. They make little or no effort to integrate and import their radical doctrines as dictated by that grossly misnamed "Book of Peace," called the Quar'an. Simply put, Canadians will not tolerate it.

8. Canada has learned nothing from the Eurabian experience
and Muslim immigration keeps increasing steadily. Caucasians are already a minority in Canada. The rate of accommodation to foreign customs keeps increasing apace.
Canada was never friendly to Jews, but now the situation is quite frankly scary and dangerous. In a generation or two Jews won't be able to live in Canada anymore.
|
|
9. The West's "open door" policy on Muslim immigration
I have nothing against nominal Muslims who are committed to Western values. But I struggle to find a single western country that has benefited from the large scale immigration from Muslim countries in the last generation.
Most recently, the US essentially outsourced the process of clearing "refugee" immigration to a UN agency. We ended up with over 100,000 Somalis who have caused no end of trouble. Travelers unable to get a cab if they're carrying alcohol or need a guide dog. Employers who *must* readjust their job schedules around Ramadan fasts. A stream of youngsters who go home to join the jihad, then return to the US. Islamic charter schools.
Heck, a few months ago I saw a group of women in hijab and niqab (the "full ninja") a few blocks from the US capitol. And across the river there's a Saudi-funded school that teaches hatred of kaffirs and infidels and has already graduated at least one jihadist.

13. Why do you think anti-semitism comes from Arabs in Canada?
To think that anti-Semitism comes from only or mainly Muslims in Europe and North America would be a great mistake. Try talking about Madoff case or Gaza war with a white christian Cacausian American, if you hide that you are a Jew, you would have a real opportunity to hear their anti-semitism. Same would for almost all European white christians too.
Anti-semitism is well and very much alive in European and North American non-Muslim population too. It's just the political correctness which makes them keep it silenced.
|
|
14. Lets play the victim game!
Seriously, don't take B'nai Brith as the credible voice on this subject. They sell fear. That is their job and they do it very well. Make Jews fearful and they will close ranks. What are the eight hundred odd incidents of harassment? Of the over thirteen hundred "attacks on Jews', we discover in fact that there were fourteen violent attacks. Of those we are not informed just what is meant by violence. For goodness sake, Canada has a population six times of Israel and the so called acts of violence in one year here wouldn't even equal a day of hate by settlers against Palestinians. Why don't you ask Jews here just how terribly oppressed they are in Canada? There are people active in the Jewish community that pander to peoples fear for their own agenda. It does nothing but serve xenophobia and gives justification to ethnocentric feelings. We don't kill people with different beliefs here simply because we are afraid they are out to get us. Take a pill. Preferably one with a dose of reality in it. The Islamic community, as the Jewish community provide enrichment to the Canadian mosaic. Groups like B'nai Brith and some of the people on these talkbacks who try to say we have a problem here and that it is rooted in the Islamic community are projecting their own fears and prejudices. There are prejudiced people everywhere but it doesn't automatically follow that that is the dominant feature of a culture. When one hates a group or individual it is a lot easier to convince that person that others hate them.

15. #13 - I HEAR THAT!!!
As someone who "doesn't look Jewish" and has a very common non-Jewish surname I can tell you for a fact that #13 is right. The casual anti-Semitism/anti-Jewish bias in American society is stronger than Jews here think. And it's not just minorities who are anti-Semitic it is standard white Christians - whose families Jews are often marrying into - as well.

16. reafirmation to #13
I am a actually less then a half breed. My mother's grandmother was pure Sephardic as was her grandfather. My grandmother married an english immigrant to America, my mother married an established irish catholic. I look like an irishman but I have the heart of a Jew. I have heard many white christian (mostly catholic) Americans talk about Judaism and the Jewish people in less then favorable light only to be embarrassed when learning of my conviction. I have heard a lot of anger stemming from the actions of Madoff, Bernanke, and the rest... all being held responsible for the greed and abuses of the Bush Administration's open door policy for carpet baggers and wall street scum. Yes... there were Jews involved in the criminal activity and Madoff was the worst. The truth is that it was at least 1000 times more the case that it was a white christian man doing the dirty work. The thing is I only hear about the Jew this and the Jew that... but here is one thing to remember. It is by our behavior and actions that we will win people over... by our kindness and our courage that will win the day. It is easy to blame the Jew because so few of non-Jews ever see the social side of Judaism. They only hear rumors of our traditions and see our doings as a mystery. Most who speak badly of us only do so out of ignorance and really don't harbor any real ill will towards us. The Muslim factions openly publicize a false view of themselves while they plot to kill in secret. We carry on our lives in quiet resolution and it is looked at as secret but in reality it is not. Has anyone you know ever turned down a gentile's request to visit a temple or speak with a Rabbi? The problem is visability and ignorance which can both be solved. All it takes is a little openness and offers of friendship.

17. Re antisemitism in Canada
Antisemitism in Canada takes many different forms:
Traditional Eastern European antisemitism brought to Canada by immigrants post World War 2.
German and Mennonite immigrant antisemitism.
Traditional WASP (White Anglo Saxon) xenophobia.
Traditional French Catholic antisemitism (Quebec).
Muslim immigrant racism against Jews masked as anti-Zionism.
Left wing antisemitism under the guise of anti-Zionism.
The most distressing of all are the self hating Jews eg Naomi Klein, Judy Rebbick etc who have brainwashed themselves into the mindset that their support for the allegedly downtrodden Palestinians must supercede their loyalty to their own people. These left wing do gooders are so blinded by their politically correct rhetoric that they don't understand that the groups that they rally for would have no qualms about taking away their rights should they ever gain power.
Thank goodness for Frank Dimant and Bnai Brith Canada for their dilligence and the Harper Government for standing up to the Muslim racists. The Liberal Party Governments were so busy attempting to cram the country with new immigrant voters who traditionally vote Liberal that they lost all perspective on right and wrong.

18. Canadians have never liked Jews
From the refusal of the Holocaust orphans to the refusal to acknowledge Israelis born in Jerusalem as Israeli, Canada has always had a distaste for Jews. I grew up in Canada; Canadians don't like Jews. And French Canadians and Canadian bureaucrats don't hide their bigotry. In 2007, I travelled for months across Canada - Montreal to Victoria. It was clear that they think they are tolerant and above reproach; however, I found that Jews are unwelcome as Jews. Prejudice and anti-Jew/Israeli sentiments quietly simmers behind the Polite Canadian facade.
Funny as it may be, I noted that the average Canadian embrasses the Moslems despite the Moslem's intolerance and blantant rascist rhetoric.

the two of you take the cake: you are spouting blatant garbage. I have lived in Canada for almost 40 years- and I have heard more ant- everything from the great nation South of the border than I ever heard in Canada. There are problems everywhere- including in the US- you haven't been out West in the stronghold of white supremacists? Etc Etc.... many TB here are totally unjust, unfounded and uncalled. By the way, the Great nation could have accepted more Jews too-- so let's spread the blame a bit, shall we?
Canada is the flavor of the day today? Last week it was another country- lost track by now.
What would you do if there was no anti-semitism on earth anymore? Find one somewhere?

22. Oh Canada! You should be ashamed!
Have you forgotten how you stole the land of the indigenous people of North America? You now call them "The First Nation" to appease your conscience!
Canada has a long anti-Semitic history, Jews barred from universities, government jobs, sports clubs and so on but they are so holier than thou when it comes to Israel. The anti-Semitic attacks should not surprise anyone. That is Canada.
Maybe some member of the First Nation should start a "Free Canada" campaign!
I suppose some will say that not all Canadians hate Israel. It's only the neo-Nazis and Muslims. Well, you let them in and now you must suffer the disgrace brought on your land by those who only know hate and violence!

23. #22 David the righteous?
totally amazing how the 'righteous' people are all on TB, sitting court over the world.
What makes you think YOU are perfect? Your country is perfect? Your religion is perfect?
Canada is one of the few countries in the world, that has a better track record than most- they are working hard to make it a good place for people to bring up their families in peace. There are no roadblocks, no security checks, people- including First Nations have a higher living standard than almost any other country on earth. People are healthy, generous, liberal minded. Many Muslim people come from non-Arab countries- should they all be sent back too?
By the way: First nations people have free university education, many hold high positions in law and academia- so WHO are you to judge a country by a few isolated punks who have nothing better to do than cause problems?
Anti-semitic problems are always broadcast worldwide instantly by papers like Ynet - besides this there is hardly any news about the world.
People here should really learn to distinguish between 'some cases of anti-semitism by a few ant-socials' and an 'entire country'.
It is always THE XXXXX are ALL anti-semits- .
Ever noticed how it goes? ALL Spanish, ALL Germans, ALL French, ALL Swiss, ALL British etc. etc. are ant-semites. It is wrong, uneducated, unfounded etc.
Have you ever found a country that was not 'anti-semitic'? Let me know!
I bet you can even find in in your own country? I just bet you do.

25. To Lisa the expat, David is right, your attack is
less than disingenous. If the natives are treated so well why is their suicide rate so high? Why are their children sniffing glue and gasoline in the North? I can say that the arabs living in the territories have much better health care than any other arab country in the vicinity. They have 6 UNIVERSITIES built by Israel when there were none before and have become the center of terror learning. Only one difference: the natives don't attack white children with axes!! only the poor palestinians.

26. Lisa, the article is about Canada
Lisa, this TB is Canada not about the rest of the world or the US. For a 40+ year old, you sure don't make a cogent argument. Canadians are anti semetic on a cultural and institutional level. If you leave the confines of the big city and travel the country you will find Canadian are politely anti semetic. This is a generalization. Note that not ALL Canadians are anti Jew or Israel. As a matter of fact Evangelical Canadians love us. The point is that Canadians have begun to use Anti Israel rhetoric to facilitate their anti Jew bias. Marty in 17 has it right.

Since the 70's I have heard the stories of anti semetic acts by French government officials and bureaucrats. we were talking about the constant accusations of anti-semitism of entire countries- the First Nations were in reply to some TB's sidetracking the issue-
when B'nai Brith gives statistics like anti-semitsm was up 79% from last year- what exactly does that mean? 79% in Alberta- from what?
were there 3 cases, 50 cases?
In Saskatchewan are less than one million people, so how many cases?
Either the statistics are suspect or the article was less than truthful-well researched.... it boils down to fear-mongering as one of the TB said before me.
I agree 100% that anti-semitism is WRONG and should be wiped out/and or persecuted and punished-
but to label 100% of the population of a country ( I will qualify this Western country)anti-semitic is in my humble opinion ignorant-. There is no proof - and I would take any newspaper article and statistic that is taken by any special interest group, whatever it may be, with a grain of salt.
|
|
29. you should all take solice in the knowledge that..
there is MUCH more anti-arab sentiment in the street. People here are tired of all of the immigrants much like in Europe. This may not manifest itself in "attacks" because Canadians are mostly civilized (whereas I would bet that most of the anti-Jewish attacks were carried out by immigrants and arabs), but trust me, it's there. Even most of the "liberal" canadians, ones who would frown upon this type of racist attitude. Their feeling is that arabs are "rude" and "obnoxious", so they dislike them for non-racial reasons.
|
|
30. grains of salt
if you have ever watched an hourglass timer you would understand Lisa. When I was a child even the casual mention of a Nazi or anti-semitism was considered gauche and embarrassingly shameful. Gradually it became more tolerated, then publicized, now fairly commonplace. It is growing by leaps and bounds in almost every country of the world. Fear of tackling this horrible trend has allowed it to gain momentum and acceptance by an alarmingly large audience. How soon we forget? Even one more incident is cause for serious examination! Please don't placate yourself in to thinking its a small blight on a much larger picture. It is a fast growing fungus covering a large percentage of every piece! There is one solution but it is horrible to contemplate. Unfortunately I fear it is the only solution. It may sadden me, but I not shirk from my duty to myself, my brethren, and my G-d. Decrying these issues as not so big a deal is like helping them over the wall. Please don't.
