"Human rights groups enlist help of prominent ......" that what Ynet wrote at the beginning of the "news" item!! wow, which "human rights groups" whom are enlisting such Zionist big wigs like WEASEL and his ilk of Israeli crimes opologists and supporters? not even one respect int'l human rights group ever endorsed such lies and hypocracy of Israel and its crimes, on the contrary, they are all are part of the Durban II conference. Ynet, WEASEL, and all "Israel" supporters, I have news for you: time of crying wolf is over, time of crying "anti-semiitsm" is over, and time to cover up israel's crimes is too also over. live with it
6. It's increasingly likely the US *will* attend.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.14.09)
If they do, some of us will sorely disappointed, but not surprised. It's what Obama, Rice, and the rest of the outreach posse want. But it will pull the rug out from those in the EU and elsewhere who were sitting on the fence. If the US attends, most of the others will too. That leaves just Canada and Israel (and Italy, unless they change their mind) showing some moral sense.
7. Durban 2 is nothing but an Islamic jerk-fest

8. Someone is spoofed!
Chanan ,   Jerusalem   (04.14.09)
The conference is not about Israel it is about racism in general the UN has dropped reference to Israel so whats the point here? Israel is also subject to scrutiny, if we have nothing to hide then we should be part of this conference, but wait just a moment do we have something to hide?

israel is very small, arabs want to distabalize it, overthrow the jewish rule and drive the jews out. arabs keep coming to live in wb from jordan. jews are the indigenous people of israel and west bank, and not the arabs
13. #8 Not quite.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (04.14.09)
Durban I was predominantly about Israel. All other matters were shelved. Dubran II was already discussing Israel *before it even started*. That a single reference to Israel was dropped does not mean that the whole conference will be an actual discussion on worldwide human rights violations. The UN Human Rights Council, which sets the tone for UN human rights violation investigations as well as Durban II, is still predominantly made up by countries either hostile to Israel or interested in masking *their own* human rights violations. Before Kofi Annan's departure (and Annan wasn't known to be much of a friend to Israel, to say the least) he decried the UNHRC as a group whose sole interest is seemingly to discuss Israel day and night to move matters away from anything else. Israel is their scapegoat, Chanan. Their way of diverting attention from real, actual debate on human rights.

Sorry my friend you are missing the point, Israel is a member of the UN and a signatory to the UNHRC charter, Durban II is not about Israel it is about racism, human rights abuse and disinfranchising people in general. The Jewish people have more than a majority of friends in the UN, Israel is subject to criticism that is justified at times and at times not. So perhaps you should take the time and read up a little more, from the chronicles of assembly meetings were Israel is mentioned, you will then come to realize how the media and our government play with words and create situations that antagonize even those nations that are friendly with us. If we are to be placed under scrutiny than why not, if we have nothing to hide then we have nothing to fear.
16. #15 Chanan, your naivete amuses me.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (04.14.09)
Yes, Israel is a member of the UN and a signatory of the UNHRC Charter, but you fail to make a distinction between official statements and real life events. No, we don't have a majority of friends in the UN. Never had. What we have is a motley collection of opportunists sitting on the board of one of the most useless organizations in the world, which had never actually managed to resolve a real, major crisis on its own - in fact, the reliance on the UN to "make it right" often resulted in matters becoming *worse*. I've read up quite a while, Chanan. I've read up on how the UNHRC has condemned Israel 15 times in the span of two years. We're the *only* country that the UNHRC has condemned! The only one, Chanan! About Sudan, where an actual genocide took place, the UNHRC has expressed "deep concern" but no actual condemnation. The UNHRC, Chanan, voted back in 2006 to make Israel and its human rights record a *permanent feature* of every single council session. There are concentration camps in North Korea, Chanan, and the Brother Leader's secret police is not kind or gentle. Prisoners being harvested for organs for trade in China. And in Saudi Arabia, women are second class citizens. Iran, Belarus, Cuba, Cambodia, the manmade disaster which is Congo... None of these warranted an actual reaction, as far the UNHRC was concerned. I wouldn't trust a Mafia-bought judge to find the shopkeeper innocent and the mobster guilty of a crime, and I won't trust the defunct UNHRC to investigate Israel. Durban II is just a more public and sensationalist version of the same. There is no world government, Chanan. No central rule of law that is independent of the interests of the various states. Each member of the UNHRC is merely a representative of the politics of his or her country - and for them, Israel is convenient. They'll debate it endlessly (down to the actions of every single individual soldier and policeman, if need be), just as long as the Watchdog never has to watch anyone else. That's the real world. And it isn't a nice place.
17. #15 YET ANOTHER CONFERENCE TO PRESSURE ISRAEL
(04.14.09)
INTO SAYING THINGS JUST TO GET THE REST OF THE WORLD OFF IT'S BACK. JEWS ARE THE INDEGINOUS PEOPLE OF THIS AREA, AND IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH THEY WON THE AREA IN THE WARS, AND IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH THEN REALLY, THRE'S ENOUGH SPACE FOR ALL THE ARABS TO LIVE WITH THEIR KIND AND A LOT OF FREE SPACE ELSEWHERE.

Funny you are and you seem to be so brainwashed, you havent read anything maybe a few blogs, media reports if you actually bothered in requesting copies of previous UNHCR meetings you would soon realize that Israel is mentioned no less than 18 times since 1950 the HCR stands for High Comissioner for Refugess, Rwanda has been mentioned over 200 times since 1994 srael is only mentioned with regard to solving Palestinian refugee status and not even directly at Israel and most under UNRWA. Ninety percent of the UNHCR's work is done in Africa, Asia (not including the Middle-East) and Europe. So please stop being an armchair commentator, let our new government go listen, observe and state our case if we are asked to justify ourselves. Yes this is a terrible world, corrupt and without moral fiber or value, but as Edmond Burke said "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". If we are good men then we can do something, show the world our true value, you would have it that we sit back and do nothing????? And before you attack me know this I do not believe the Palestnians have any right to an inch of land promised to our forefathers by Hashem, yet I am a realist so if it means maintaing the peace they can have an independent homeland lets say in Jordan. Our right to this land is sovereign, but these are issues that are out of the realms of the UNHCR and are not part of their protocols, so again I say whats the point?
19. #14 - Igor - It's hard to tell them apart these days
William ,   Israel   (04.15.09)
"Islam is not the enemy. Islamic fundamentalists are" According to their own media and polling, they're much closer than you think.
20. #2 - such sentiments are why Israel has the govt it does
William ,   Israel   (04.15.09)
Everyone in Israel is too busy complaining and whining to really protest the government and it's inability (or lack of desire) to protect its citizens - from terrorists or internal thieves. They just complain and complain, then repeat your words when asked why they don't actively protests. You fail before you even get started... that's why there is NO consumer protection in Israel, and people like the contractor who developed the Pal-Kal technique continued to develop buildings for years after being ordered to stop by the courts - which resulted in the deaths of a newly married couple in Jerusalem. As a wise man once said - "If you're not willing to make a difference, you have no right complaining about the situation"
21. #18 Chanan.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (04.16.09)
I fail to understand your mention of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees - I did not mention him or his role. I mentioned, and discussed, the *UNHRC* - United Nations Human Rights Council, which was established on March 15th, 2006. It was, I might remind you, established after the previous UNCHR - United Nations Commission on Human Rights, was disbanded after becoming overwhelmingly politicized and useless - it was disbanded due to the very illness which has, apparently, survived after all in the reformed UNHRC. You're actually doing your best to defeat a straw-man just now, you do realize that? You attack arguments I did not make, trying to derail the discussion into a realm unrelated to it, and have so far displayed a rather keen sense of arrogance on the one hand (making assumptions on my sources of information as well as my mental state and capacity), and ignorance on the other. http://www.eyeontheun.org/browse-un.asp?ya=1&sa=1&u=344&un_s=0&ul=1&tp=1&tpn=Resolution http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/24/AR2007062401373.html The following are, firstly, a detailed list of all resolutions the UNHRC has made, and secondly an article published on the Washington Post on the matters at hand. And here an article from the Irish Examiner on Kofi Annan's commentary on the UNHRC: http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/index.aspx?c=ireland&jp=cwidqlauojsn And here, from Ynet itself, is Ban Ki-moon's comments on the same problem, to whit the Council's bias and political tarnish: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3415619,00.html Welcome to real life. There's nothing you and I can do to change the UNHRC's current trends - except protesting them. And that's precisely what not attending Durban II is all about - an act of protest to try and shock the corrupt system a little, rather than marching by its tune. I'm sick and tired of Israel being the pariah state singled out to avoid any critical observation of the African Bloc, Asian Bloc, and the Middle-Eastern Bloc - and if you bothered investigating the actual voting trends of the UNHRC, you'd find precisely these blocs, thanks to the geographic seat allocation that the UNHRC is based on. Guess what? We're not in a bloc. So tag! We're it.
22. please edit article carefully
Rony ,   US   (04.17.09)
It would be helpful if your article would clarify that the Durban II Conference, up until now has been run by Libya & Iran (as detailed on "Eye on the UN" website), and the Geneva Summit (set up by UN Watch), which seeks to provide a forum to counter the frightful Durban II agenda.
